After conceding the first Twenty20 International to Australia by three wickets, India will be keen to hit back in the second and final game.

Overview

India v Australia
2nd T20I
M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Wednesday, 27 February, 7:00pm local time, 1.30pm GMT

Having won three and lost two T20Is at the M Chinnaswamy stadium, India do not have the most dominant record at Bengaluru. However, they will draw confidence from the fact that the two victories have come in their last two fixtures at the venue.

Virat Kohli, who also leads the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, will go into Wednesday with heaps of T20 experience at this venue. Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav and Lokesh Rahul – who scored a fluent 36-ball 50 in the first game – will also take the field with a similar sense of familiarity.

The home side endured a batting collapse in the first game, slipping from 69/2 to 109/7. None of the batsmen apart from Rahul crossed 50, while only Kohli and MS Dhoni managed to enter the 20s. The men in blue will be desperate to put on a better show with the bat in the second game in a bid to level the two-match series.

Kohli will be pleased with the effort from his bowlers in Visakhapatnam, where they almost defended a total of 127. Jasprit Bumrah, in particular, was in sublime form, returning 3/16 in four overs. Debutant Mayank Markande, as well as Krunal Pandya, brought their IPL experience to the fore to deliver reasonably impressive performances with the ball.

Australia will be keen to cash in on their winning momentum and claim the T20I series. It has been over a year since they last won a white-ball series of more than one game, and winning against India in India will be a huge morale boost, especially ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019.

The visitors, too, will want a repeat of their performance with the ball while hoping for an improvement on the batting front. Nathan Coulter-Nile was the most impressive bowler and was adjudged Player of the Match for his three-wicket haul.

Australia were in complete command in the first 15 overs of their chase, but capitulated after D'Arcy Short's wicket. The middle order will be expected to pull its weight and skipper Aaron Finch will be desperate to put an end to his poor run of form against India: 0, 14, 6, 6 in four innings.

Key players

Lokesh Rahul (India): Rahul, No.10 on MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for Batting, scored an impressive 50 in Visakhapatnam. When he scores a half-century, he generally tends to score a few in a row. Having played for Karnataka in domestic cricket, Rahul will also have the backing of the home crowd.

D'Arcy Short (Australia): Short scored a controlled 37 in the first game and till he was at the crease, Australia looked good for the chase. He struck five boundaries and was looking impressive until he fell to an unfortunate run-out. With 637 runs in 15 innings, he was also the leading run-scorer in the Big Bash League this season.

Dhawan back. But same middle order. So same story. Knock over top order. You are in. This chinnaswamy stadium where sixes keep flying. If OZ limits them to 150 they will walk all over INdia.

Can someone please tell me why Dhoni is not dropped but Rohit Sharma is ? Dhoni is going to cost India matches mark my words...

KL Rahul is finding his form back. 3 sixes already 1 against cummins 2 back to back against Richardson

Rayudu, Karthik, Current Dhoni, etc, cannot create this kind of impact even in their dreams! That's why he is recalled again and again!

119 kph slower ball did Rahul in. Upper cut found the fielder on fence.

He gets back to the headache of how to handle that ball in 3 different formats & perhaps in three different batting positions & conditions of the game! It was actually fine playing like that in this format as he has perhaps done his job!

As usual the hack is back to pavilion with a single digit score. The next big thing in India? My foot!

Indian ODI team is not fit to play T20s. They can't slog. All are somewhat selfish in a way. THey take their time. build an innings. lol

Kohli has become a conservative cricketer these days especially after marriage :) Not sure if there is any correlation.

Hack as found a way in the toughest format of the game where he had an assured opportunity! I hope you understand what is bugging him here!

Never seen Kohli missing this many drag downs. Too much time out of hte game? All rubbish half trackers that should have landed in second tier.

They are way below par here. You need 200 here to defend. Also this is a poor attack bar Bumrah adn chahal. Now bowler is safe here. Faster you bowl faster it will disappear.

Hope this will put an end to hack Pant in the middle order experiment. It's Karthik who's going as a back up to Thala in WC 19. I don't want to see this hack swinging his bat around for few balls and waste one crucial spot. Too risky.

Let him play one ODI series at least. ODI.

Pant does not deserve a spot in the team as a pure batsman. He should be only in the team if he is keeping.

Karthik is decent. But he is not a big match player. He never showed he has it in him against strong bowling attacks.

MSD is still a waste of space in the team.

So you're judging him based on T20 cricket?

Dhoni is firing all cylinders :))

Another 6 and 4.

He can hit part time spinners.

Pant failed against Short and got out to him. Feel for him. He is getting his chances now, but failing in the format that suits his style of play.

Hack shot by Maxie behind the keeper for six lol He aimed somewhere. Ended up elsewhere. ONly he can hit a six like that

Another overhyped Superstar getting tonked. Jadeja atleast affects 1 or 2 run outs with his fielding. This Krunal guy is worse than Washington Sundar as an allrounder.

Krunal Pandya is a poor man's Jaddu.

Without Kohli's innings, India would have been hammered today. Even now, it looks like Aus can win this easily. We need 2 quick wickets here.

If this was Hardik Pandya fans would have gone crazy after his 2 wkts but he is Vijay Shankar. :inti

Hardik is 10 times the batsman that Vijay Shankar is and 100 times the fielder that Vijay Shankar is.

Not to mention, Hardik is a better bowler than Shankar too.

The only reason Vijay Shankar is playing is because Hardik is injured.

Why do the likes of Sid Kaul find a place in the team? What is special about him? Hard to believe that the likes of Kaul, Khaleel and Siraj are the best we have in the limited over format.

Kaul to defend 7 runs in 4 balls.

He will surely book a place in the WC squad if he wins from here.

Absolute belter of a pitch, yet Maxwell somehow managed to make everyone else look slow and dull in comparison. The Big Show seals the series

Chahal bowled 4 overs for 47 with zero wickets. Seems like his mind wasn't on the match.

Pathetic bowling from him. Its nothing new. When he is under the pump, he totally gives up. Here is where I rate Kuldeep much higher than Chahal.

It's just a T20 series, therefore don't think there is much conclusive here. IND's gain (or may be loss, who knows) is the return of form for KL.

Off the topic - just about few months back 8th ranked AFG's beat a 10th ranked team 3-0 in T20I, with one game being decided by millimeters on last ball ....... and more or less the entire 10th ranked nation was humiliated here, led by few Indians (or at least faking as Indians) and eventually the losers went blow to AFGs in every format of the game, including Test, where AFGs were yet to make a debut .............

Now, which one do you think more shameful - losing 0-3 away to 8th ranked team by 10th ranked team or losing 0-2 by 2nd ranked team to 6th ranked team at home?

.... never mind BVB, it's just a T20I and I hope next time PP will be less critical for particular targets.

Haha I see what you did there but I dont think I have seen Bhaag Viru Bhaag taunting that 10th ranked team fans over that loss. Also don’t forget #6th ranked team just whooped a #2 ranked test team recently as well. Dont see anyone make fuss over that either.

"Pretty Short Series To Summarise Performances": Virat Kohli After India's Defeat To Australia In T20Is

Virat Kohli smashed an impressive knock of 72 runs (not out) but failed to lead India to a series-saving victory in the second T20 International in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Australia rode on a noteworthy century by Glenn Maxwell to register a seven-wicket win and sweep the two-match series 2-0, their maiden series triumph in the shortest format in India. Following the loss, India captain Virat Kohli called it a "pretty short series to summarise the performances", adding that his bowlers struggled because of dew at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

"Australia outplayed us in all departments and deserved to win. 190 is a good total on most grounds but if there is so much dew as there was tonight and when you have an innings like what Glenn Maxwell played, nothing much you can do," Kohli said at the post-match presentation.

Maxwell, who scored a match-winning half-century in Australia's three-wicket win in the series-opener, continued to delight with the willow on the Indian soil.

Scoring 113 not out off 55 balls, Maxwell dominated the Indian bowlers and struck as many as nine sixes to reach the triple figure for the third time in the shortest format.

Maxwell took the game away from India, who had posted a strong total of 190 for four after being asked to bat.

"Every team is looking to take each game like that but it's also important to win matches. We would have liked to get across the line in at least this game but I can't be too hard on the bowlers due to the amount of dew," the Indian skipper said.

"We wanted to give everyone some game time, we've seen how they react under pressure, there is a series coming up and we'll try more things. It's upto them to deliver the goods," he added.

Kohli, who scored 38-ball 72 and shared a century-stand with MS Dhoni, said he enjoyed himself at the Chinnaswamy wicket.

"The good thing was that the Bangalore wicket was back to normal and you could trust the lengths. I enjoyed myself but it didn't really matter as we lost the game," Kohli concluded.

I know - that's exactly why I picked him. Otherwise, if I had picked one of the usual trolls, that would have put me in same shoes.

Congrats Australia. Beating IPL superstars in India at T20 is no easy feat. Ausies done it well. Credit to them.

What a series victory for Australia. Beating India in India is very difficult and it's a pretty strong India line up. Kudos to them!

You do realize Maxwell is an IPL superstar right? Infact there are lot of Aussies resurrecte their career here. They are familiar with Indian pitches, bowlers more than others.

Nah, they are more BBL superstars. Chris Lynn wasnt even playing, he is a bigger T20 monster than even Maxwell.

Who said that. Check Maxwell few seasons back. M & M famous counter attacking pair. Miller and Maxwell. If Maxwell can't do Miller will do slogans. They played for Punjab XI. He pocketed 1 million dollar for one season.

Pathetic bowling from him. Its nothing new. When he is under the pump, he totally gives up. Here is where I rate Kuldeep much higher than Chahal.

Always told Chahal should be a backup for Kuldeep and should be in the squad (14 men, 16 men). But should not play along with Kuldeep as default in all matches/all pitches. Should be rotated depending upon the opponents (more right handers), pitches (assisting spin) and the odd match (usually insignificant) in the series (not a decider, then opponents accustomed to Kuldeep may get surprised). Otherwise India needs a bowler with better control & adds some value to batting & fielding where he is a dud. So Jadeja, Krunal kind of players must play in his place and a proper batsman/bowler can be played in their place!

I think the organizers should have avoided T20s (which are meaningless especially in the current context leading to world cup) and added more ODIs (like 2 ODIs extra in place of 3 T20s) so that the teams could prepare better for the World Cup. Actually T20s require a different/specific set of players and now we are trying to experiment by playing ODI probables in T20s... If at all Dhoni has to play in World Cup and make any kind of significant contribution then he should continuously be tried to bat at No.4 in ODIs and find some rhythm... Instead he is in the mix of powerhitting in T20s (which was always been a difficulty for him though he might have come good in IPL where its actually a kind of ODIs where he gets to play similar kind of oppositions on repeated pitches!)

The coming IPL is further going to damage the preparation for India both in terms of style of playing and some injury concerns to key players!

Maxwell played a special knock. He should open in T20s. He can take full advantage of the PP overs and than when set after that he has the ability to play 360 degrees. Brilliant brilliant LO player.
