What's new

Australia beat New Zealand by 68 runs in the 1st ODI

What competition? He should walk in ahead of that trundler grandhomme. Your ODI bowling attack should be

Lockie
Milne
Boult
McClenaghan/Southee/Santner/Henry(depending on conditions)
Competition for the title of fastest bowler in the team.

That's in playing XI - how Head makes the squad of 15? I hope, he doesn't troll me with a 75, but he is below average even in Shield standard. Watched a little in SRL as well.
He's one of the best if not the best young batsman in Australia.

Kiwis might have missed a trick by not playing Sodhi at SCG, should have been in the Series against Aussies.

Pace down from his first spell, but still quite sharp ~145.

Not sure who else they have for batsman who can bowl a bit. Faulkner?

Why AUS needs to select batsman on a bit bowling merit - Cummins, Starc, Josh, Zampa, Mitch + couple of overs from Smith if required.

If Faulkner comes, he should replace Mitch Marsh, not Head (Specialist bat). Probably Khawaja was far better than Head, but he is a top order, which is already loaded - going by AUS's spin play (& Head's spin play), there should be better option than a batsman coming below Mitch.

In that case, I am not sure I should feel sorry for myself or AUS batting future...........
Australia has a huge talent dearth, the only quality player coming up is the tall 145 KPH+ bowler; Billy Stanlake

Travis Head is actually a decent prospect. Work in progress. Not surprised they chose him. Good aggressive intent with bat and okay with the ball. We'll make a legend out of him like we did with de Grandhomme.

Looks like couple of wickets & speed gun has gone into Kiwi's head.........

Some very poor bowling by NZ in the last 30mins. Game is running away from them.

47 runs in the last 5 overs.

Since WC, this is probably the best attack AUS has picked for ODI, it'll be tough for Kiwis to chase anything over 250.

Man! Watching PAK play over the winter breaks at this time is going to be a mouth-watering prospect! Hopefully our boys show some spine.

Yeah, think people need to take Travis Head seriously, he defo has potential.

In 5 years time he *might* even be test level.

Seems only you and I are the ones on this match thread. :uakmal

Btw, Smith's got some unreal hand-eye co-ordination.

NZ has fed so many short balls to Smith today. Smith will keep hitting these balls the whole day.

You'd be hard pressed to find a softer ton than that.

Dropped, dead lbw, chop ons and fed free hits.

Only have ourselves to blame.

If we took our chances, we'd probably be batting now.

Feel for you mate, bowl was nipping around, yet Williamson didn't attack.

Honestly I'm starting to think he shouldn't be captain anymore, he's to defensive.

Old school technique by Watling - now days, if the ball is not hitting direct, they glove the ball before wicket & drag it with same motion - should have been run out with almost a metre short, when ball crossed sticks.

True, perfect timing for us, first the Eng Series was during the Summer Vacation now the we'll get to see some Aus matches during the Winter break!

Dhoni is a master at doing that

Will you take him over Maxwell in the next game?

I almost knew, he'll troll me today; was sure after the drop. Anyway, no comparison with Maxi, who is like Philo Walace, Colis Kings, Atul Bedade, Romesh Kalu - couple of season wonder. Fortunately for him, these days in a season, they play almost equal number of LO matches of a decade of 80s.....

Aus should look to score quickly now, but make sure to not lose a wicket while doing so.

Then in the last 5 overs they should just explode.

The way Aussies are running against Kiwi fielding - they'll take couple with circle against Aazzu's charges.

Aman what happened to Luke Ronchi why was he dropped?

Was it just because of his performance?

lol I don't think we should be here in the first place with exams and stuff, but cricket is life i guess.

ahh looks like I jinxed Head..

Another free hit for Smith :))

We deserve to lose, we haven't bowled well at all all today.

Worst thing about this all is I have had to watch Steve Smith bat for almost 50 overs :)))

If we're going to give chances, give it to someone who actually looks the part.

How do people watch this garbage?

I made the mistake of spending thousands of dollars watching 4 matches at the last World Cup.

By the end I learned that Team 1 scores 210-4 at 40 overs then finishes on somewhere between 300 and 340 in 50 overs.

So what happened today?

Surprise surprise, after 40 overs Australia was 210-4.

Surprise surprise, Trent Boult is now bowling the 44th over with no slip fielders in place, because batsmen can have a swipe at balls delivered where they went them with zero chance of any lateral deviation.

Such a predictable, boring non-spectacle. This isn't sport, it's just bad wallpaper.

One of our top order batsmen are going to have to bat really well to chase this.
