Australia vs England | 1st Ashes Test | Brisbane | Day 3

Australia should get lead of 500 and declare and give themselves some overs today to get a wicket or 2. No way England going to make anything over 400 as the way they bat these days they need at least 3 days to make that much. Only thing that can stop a Australia win is the weather now.

What a one sided test match lets hope England at least put up a challenge as Australia did in England at least that was a entertaining series some close games. Looks like it might be a easy Ashes series victory.

Cooks captaincy is crap and defensive. Watching England bowl today reminded me of the Sydney test how Yousuf let Australia get grip of the game by being too defensive.

I wouldn't count England out, I still think they can draw this.

Shiva, one of our stats men, has this: "Last time Australia built a second-innings lead of 400-plus over England, was in Perth, Dec 2006, eight home Ashes-Tests - in which they have batted first - ago.

in modern cricket nothing is impossible.they have plenty of time.just need to apply themselves

Come on England would need at least 3 days to get near 500 runs because they bat with a negative mindset that's the reason they have even struggled to make over 300 in the last few years. No way England can chase 400 let alone 500. Oby hope for England is the rain.

wao swanny econamy rate is just amazing

Swann is too over rated most teams give him too much respect they just try blocking him out which becomes their downfall but if you attack him and go after him it's easy putting him away.

Come Bailey just play like its a ODI or T20. Want to see more of your big hits that's what up good at.

Convict, OZGOD and RA

It's either Haddin or Wade :))

I've always preferred Haddin because I reckon he bats better. His keeping is ordinary but so is Wade. RA prefers Wade because Wade's a Victorian :D

Not many other candidates out there unfortunately. Tim Paine seems to have dropped off the map.

True.

No way Poms can chase 500 ........

I would say anything over 300 would be tough. It looks easy on paper , but you need to concentrate so long, one false step and you are out.

I wonder if RA and OZGOD have changed there perspective of Haddin? :)

Not really. A fighter but the blood gets to his head.

Also a poor keeper though signficantly better than Wade.

Would prefer Hartley or Paine but I'm the kind of person who looks at the keeping first and then checks if they meet a minimum batting standard.

Someone like Gilchrist was a good keeper though not the best but was so far ahead as a batsman that he was an exception

Boom Boom Baileys 2nd six and hit Swann with ease. Come on bailey show the world how average Swann is.

It's funny how teams only become aggressive with their field placements when the player is on 99 eh. This is the most attacking field I've seen from Cook all match.

Woeful captain Cook is.

just a bit off topic. Just saw your location.. What's up with your city man, Boston that is! Worst place to drive. Complicated underground tunnel highway with no GPS. It took me 45 mins to get to the destination through tunnels. :sigh!

Bailey averages 38 in FC.. why's he even in the team?

You sometimes need a player like Bailey who can take the game to the opposition and he has done well in ODIs I know it's a different format but he definatley deserved a chance and don't see any other batsmen that could do better. He will come good give him time new format but he should play his natural game.

Bailey Averages 52 in ODI I guess he deserved his chance.

I still think give him some time.

He will become a good test bat for Australia.

I am convinced by him.

And it's funny cause I've never been convinced by anyone that easily :)

Bailey's a shocking first class batsman who should have been out twice already this innings.

Well played Clarke. Leading by example and good fight back after his 1st innings dismissal.

Is this Clarke's 5th or 6th at the Gabba?

Still can't believe Cook's plan for him earlier today.

Clarke's top rate.

Cmon dude.

Give the guy a chance.

Don't write him off in one innings.

Australians are renowned to be not emotional.

I really think they should have a go at England before stumps. Maybe 10-15 overs or so.

I'm writing him off based on 18 months of sheffield shield.

We picked a guy with one half century (65) over his last 10 shield matches.

It's true though, if he averaged around 44-45 then he could maybe be let in due to ODI form but 38 is pretty low. Don't see what he's going to do at the senior level with that sort of average. Shouldn't have been picked for his skills in another format.. but I don't know if Aus have many alternatives.

OMG mate it's terrible eh. The tunnels in the city mess up the GPS because it cant work out if you are above or below ground. And the traffic is retarded. I've been living here for 7 years and Sydney seems like heaven by comparison.

And Boston drivers are the worst in the US by a long way. They make driving in New York feel like it's the Midwest. When my sister lived in London I noticed that while people cut in and out of traffic they do give way and people always show signs of appreciation, esp. if you are merging into a square and need to get to the other side quickly. Here in Boston I have learned to not signal when changing lanes because drivers will speed up to stop you merging when you do so. And they get so agro.

Nope can't stand him. He makes some runs every now and then which is more infuriating because he is quite a talented player. Drops on average one easy chance per Test.

Wade unfortunately is a worse keeper.

The two things I like about Bailey is that a) he's a scrapper and b) he tends to lift his game under pressure. But you have to look at history. His FC average is very ordinary over a long period of time. You could argue that he switches off in those matches but when you compare him with other people we have picked at 30+, Hussey had 10000 first class runs and Rogers scored 1000 runs a season in the Shield. I don't think he's cut out for it but now that he's in he deserves to be given a chance to prove himself.

What's happened to Paine? Who are the new up and comers?

I am gonna cheer every run Bailey makes.

Maybe by the time test series is over, he will have a great average :D

Might as well declare now.

Need to get some more psychological blows in - keep England in the field under the hot sun for a few more hours and make them keep bowling. It's been a very long time since we were in this position, and at the start of a series too. Need to make the most of it.

No making 136 got them into this mess.
Actually they really messed it up in the first, England had Australia on the ropes at 132/6 and let them off the ropes and allowed them to score 295 when they should have really finished the Aussies off for 150-180. Some very causal stuff from England.

Is it that bad? I always felt that NYC was the worst place. I don't have to drive much in DC area but it's not bad here.

Well he deserves to be selected for Adelaide and maybe Perth at the very least.

He's in so we need to give him a few tests. Was the wrong selection and I'll stand by that.

Yes agree he tends to lift his game under pressure. Let's see how he goes about today and in next test he deserves a run in the team. He will come good and also don't see any other alternative that could do better. Bailey can be a game changing batsmen for Australia if he delivers when it matters just like he's been doing in ODIs.

What's happened to Paine? Who are the new up and comers?

Paine had a few years ruined by injury but made his return last season. Starting to get into some good form but isn't that good a batsman.

Hartley is probably similar to Healy with the bat so isn't that bad. Not far off Healy as a keeper either.

Of the young ones Nevill is a good batsman and a solid keeper and Sam Whiteman (who was born in yorkshire but grew up in Perth) is a very good keeper who has talent with the bat. He and Agar have combined to give many a WA innings credibility in their short careers.

Oh Clarke what have you done gifted Swann a wicket but well played and a great innings by a great player.

Boston is much worse than NYC dude. I live in NY and compared to Boston driving in nyc seems like a piece of cake. I kept getting lost in tunnels. Drivers are no better in nyc too though. Most of highways here are busy for at least 8-10 hours of a day.

Australia should just go all out attack for 10 overs I'm sure they can get 60+ runs and that be enough to give England a total of over 500

4 Bailey...

I don't care how bad he is.

First half century would be special.

Oh and the reason i like him is his fighting spirit when under pressure. Does not crumble. A real fighter!
