With the three-match series tied 1-1, both Bangladesh and the Windies will have everything to play for in the final one-day international in Sylhet on Friday, 14 December.

Overview

Bangladesh v Windies
3rd ODI
Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet
Friday, 14 December, 13:00 local, 07:00 GMT

Bangladesh restricted the Windies to 195/9 in the first game and romped home by five wickets but the visitors fought back in the second ODI, thanks to a magnificent 146* from Shai Hope, to chase Bangladesh's 255 with two balls to spare.

It's all even-stevens at the moment, but Bangladesh hold the upper hand going into the final purely based on the form of their players. For the Windies, Hope has been the lone scorer in both games.

Bolstered by the return of Tamim Iqbal, who got into the groove with 12 and 50 in the first two games, and their experienced batsmen contributing consistently – Mushfiqur Rahim (55*, 62), Mahmudullah (14*, 30) and Shakib Al Hasan (30, 65) – Bangladesh have put up decent batting shows.

By comparison, no Windies batsman apart from Hope has scored a fifty yet, and that's something that may count against them in the last ODI. That said, they too have the capacity in the middle order to put runs on the board – all of Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo and Shimron Hetmyer got starts in this series but haven't yet converted them to big scores.

With the ball, Mashrafe Mortaza, the Bangladesh captain, has led from the front with four wickets and has found good support from Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan, all of whom have been economical too.

For the Windies, it has been less pleasant, with most of their bowlers proving expensive. Only Oshane Thomas has shined – he returned 3/54 in the second ODI – and he could use some support from the likes of Devendra Bishoo, Keemo Paul, and Kemar Roach in the final ODI.

Key Players

Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh): The 'keeper-batsman has scored consecutive half-centuries in the series and has emerged as the pillar of the Bangladesh middle-order. With the ability to bat for long periods and accelerate towards the death, Rahim can play both roles – sheet anchor as well as the aggressor – and it will be imperative for the Windies to get his wicket early.

Shai Hope (Windies): Hope showed in the last match he has the ability to single-handedly win a match for his team. His presence at the top of the order gives the visitors a chance to attack from the other end, as Hope likes to take his time to settle in. Once in, however, he has the ability to score boundaries at will, and that is something Bangladesh must be wary of.

Conditons

This game will be the first ODI to be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The venue hosted its first Test last month when Bangladesh and Zimbabwe squared off for a Test. Temperatures are relatively cool this time of year – a maximum of 29°C is forecast, although it could drop as low as 17°C as the match progresses.

Squads

Bangladesh: Masrafe Mortaza (c), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nazmul Islam Apu, Mohammad Mithun, Saif Uddin, Abu Hider Rony, Ariful Hoque

To me, WI seems to be favorite today. BD has few weak areas to be solved. Bangladeshi pace bowling looks vulnerable to me. If BD plays with 3 spinners there is a chance if winning, but Mash has already said that he won't. That means either Mash or Rubel or both will be smacked. 4 openers are playing and 3 of them aren't performing. Probably Imrul will be dropped for Mithun. Liton and Soumya should score runs.Otherwise it is those old horses we have to rely on. Any off day from these veterans,we are done and dusted. Sylhet wicket should be a sporting one. Weather is excellent. I may go to the ground to watch. It will be a full house.

I don't like the decision of bowling first. Here we have started at 12pm. So at best dew can come into factor in last 10 overs of the match. If WI scores 270 here in this high pressure series deciding game, can we handle the pressure of chasing it down?

I don't find any such variation in BD spin attack other than one left armer and one right armer. Miraz very rarely spin the ball away from left hander. He just bowls wicket to wickt ,a darter type bowler . But he is very disciplined with line and length. But handing him the hard new ball always is going to hamper his offie as he has to make the ball come into left hander.

InshAllah Bangladesh will win. This is the First ever BD odi match in my Sylhet.. Could be Masheafe's last match on Banglades soil.

Bangladesh better at chasing. Under lights be better to bat on, knowing what to chase can be easier especially for BD batting line up

West Indies 99-5, in trouble. Hope again scoring 50% of the runs so far. It's basically a one man batting line up this series.

Disgusting behaviour froom Carlos Brathwaite. If this was a bd player 12th man coming on and acting like this I bet this thread been extra lit up and haters having a bull..

This guy Hope is a genuine excellent find for Windies. There's hope for the future in Hope for windies

Poor captaincy from
Mash. Fielders widespread yet after opposition 5 down and new bats in.Very poor

Apart from Hope none of the WI players are international level. Their tail enders are as bad as ours

Shay Hope is real quality yo.. Mans gonna get another ton here!

Windiest need to boot this waste Samuel out guy is garbage

Why Mash has to run in to bowl@ 106km/hour? Should take lesson from Afridi to bowl this ball at spinner's action :smith

selfish batting by Hope at the end. He should do more counter attack instead of giving strike to tail enders. WI are 30-40 runs short.

It's not everyday one sees a batsman score a hundred but the team does not even reach 200

Target 199 , well below par from WI

A easy win for Bangladesh. There is nothing on this pitch. WI can't play any sort of spin and any average fast bowlers.

Honestly this is a 270 run wicket.

West Indies have a plethora of useless players who are good only when they are set. They should bring back Gayle Simmons Russell and Narine.

Hope
Bravo
Hetmeyer
Powell
Pooran(keeper)
Russell
Narine
Bishoo
Roach
Oshane

WI have missed Jason Holder massively on this trip. They need him back ASAP. With hi around, they seem to be a lot more calmer and focused.

Soumya hits the best sixes for Bangladesh

Out hote hotel bach Gaya. And he escaped a WI LBW review. If umpire had given it out BD review couldn't save him. Soumya is not the man to go for BD,not dependable at all, can't play spin well.

Thomas is an impressive lad. I shall include him. And I shall also take Gabriel in ODI. A pace trio of Gabriel,Roach and Thomas may make any batting line up shaky in world cup. Narine and Bishoo with them....complete package

Soumya is the modern day Mathew Hayden. Second most exciting player in Bangladesh team after Liton Das. His chokkas (sixes) are Haydos like. His best knock was against South Africa and his Six of Morke oh boy that was a sight

You have to live on that memory. Soumya not gonna produce that SA knock against any top side any more I think. He can do well here and there against Zimbos ,Irish ,Nepal but not against top teams.

Tamim

What a player. One of the best openers in the world now. So consistent.

I take the responsibility gladly to keep this thread alive. No deshi Bhai is interested to post here though our team is winning . :ma

95 Meters, 99 Meters sixes by Soumya. Only Bangadeshi who can hit massive sixes, before Haba used to hit 20 meters 2s and 1s :yk

Soumya is taking full toll on this below par West Indian spinners.:lara

Oh dear. The match has been lengthened by Paul. Soumya missed a century here.

Am I going to win any award here? The award can be named as HPOPT (Highest percentage of posts in a thread ) :cr7

That was a dominating performance by the Bangladesh team winning by 8 wickets , if not for Hope things would have been far worse for WI.

That also completes a home and away series double win for Bangladesh over West Indies this year.

What will be our ranking point after this win, can anyone tell please?

Even though this is a very depleted WI side, a comprehensive win for Bangladesh is commendable. Congrats to Bangla Bros.

8 wickets & 69 balls is a commanding win, but we spoiled it in 2nd game (1st as well, no way one should lose 5 wickets to chase sub 200 targets). 2-1 was bare minimum, but the heartening part of today's win was that best 2 players of the game were youngsters. Miraz used to be a container but this series he has taken vital wickets, lots of them. May be it's WIN, but still taking 7-8 top order wickets in 3 games and managing an economy around 3.5 bowling mostly in PP is excellent return from most likely future Captain.

And, Hope is the ray of hope for WIN, truly deserved the MoS and I am happy that sponsors didn't give it to an undeserving BD player (Shakib, most likely). This WIN side has lots of potential in WC, just need Bravo to fire in middle order and Holder at peak of his game.

Mehidy Hasan starred with the ball before half-centuries from Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar guided Bangladesh to a comfortable eight-wicket wicket win over the Windies to wrap up a 2-1 ODI series win in the decider at Sylhet.

The young off-spinner collected figures of 4/29 as the Windies finished their 50 overs on 198/9, a score salvaged by second consecutive ODI hundred from Shai Hope.

Tamim (81*) and Soumya (80) both combined with the bat to help Bangladesh manage their chase with great expertise as they cruised to their target, with 11.3 overs to spare.

Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to field, and Mehidy was amongst the wickets early on. Chandrapaul Hemraj (9) fell in the fourth over, departing tamely as he cut a loose delivery from Mehidy straight to Mohammad Mithun at point. Darren Bravo was Mehidy’s second victim, bowled through the gate as he struggled to get going, falling for just 10 from 26 balls.

At the other end, Shai Hope appeared to be playing on another pitch, building on from his supreme innings in the second ODI. His timing was majestic, as he went down the track against Mehidy while slaying Mashrafe through the covers with a couple of boundaries. His fifty would arrive from just 54 balls, with a single from Shakib Al Hasan.

Navigating Mehidy (centre) proved a difficult task for the Windies Navigating Mehidy (centre) proved a difficult task for the Windies
Marlon Samuels (19) offered some resistance, but his dismissal – playing onto his stumps from Mohammad Saifuddin – triggered a spate of wickets. Shimron Hetmyer has enjoyed a stellar breakthrough year in international cricket but it hasn’t been a pleasant ride for him in this ODI series. Mehidy continued to find success as he trapped the Windies batsman on his crease with an angled delivery that skidded on. Indecision from Hetmyer saw him depart for a six-ball duck.

Rovman Powell followed in Mehidy’s next over, deceived by a lack of turn, with an edge sneaking through into the hands of Mushfiqur Rahim behind the stumps. Roston Chase (8) chose the wrong occasion to clear the boundary, failing to get the requisite contact as he holed out to Soumya at long-off.

While wickets continued to fall, Hope offered continued resistance and brought up his century by depositing Shakib for six. It was a brief spark of light amidst a poor return from the Windies batting line-up. While Mehidy caused the top-order misery, Shakib and Mashrafe were the dominators of the lower-order, picking up a pair of wickets each to stop the Windies from passing the 200 mark.

The Bangladesh reply enjoyed a steady beginning that was to be interrupted by Keemo Paul, as Liton Das spliced a pull to Powell at mid-on to see Bangladesh 45/1 after 10.1 overs. It was to kickstart a monumental partnership as Tamim and Soumya combined for a 131-run second-wicket stand, crushing the spirits of the Windies bowlers.

While both batsmen reached their fifties from 62 balls, Soumya opted for a more brutal approach in comparison to the patient Tamim, intent on sending the ball into the stands. Marlon Samuels and Fabian Allen were treated with disdain as Soumya hit both for a pair of sixes, while Devendra Bishoo was treated to a stinging cover drive that went all the way.

Soumya eventually departed for 80, but Mushfiqur ensured that there were to be no speed bumps for the rest of the chase, with a quick-fire 16 completing a dominating victory.

SYLHET, Bangladesh- The WINDIES lost the 3rd One Day International by 8 wickets and the series 2-1 against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.

Rovman Powell lost the toss for the first time in three matches, Bangladesh immediately elected to bowl first, remembering the first ODI, which saw the WINDIES capitulate for less than 200. The WINDIES had one change in the squad, with Fabian Allen replacing Oshane Thomas who was rested and the pitch appeared to favour a spinner over a seamer.

Chandrapaul Hemraj once again found it difficult to score in the opening powerplay overs. Despite stroking 2-fours, he was soon out for 9, caught off Mehidy Hasan when he tried playing the same cut shot twice in succession. Darren Bravo joined Shai Hope at the wicket and the pair started a cautious rebuild of the WINDIES innings. Bravo used 26 deliveries to score his 10 runs before he saw his stumps fall to Mehidy. Marlon Samuels struggled once again in the scoring department, however, he was the highest scorer after Shai Hope. While Samuels found runs difficult to come by, Shai Hope kept the score ticking over from the other end. His soft touches and smart batting saw his score accumulate. The pair posted the highest WINDIES partnership of 39 runs together.

Mohammad Saifuddin sent Samuels stumps catapulting out the ground as he bowled him for 19. Hope dug deep and played defensively while managing to add to the total. Shimron Hetmyer faced 6 deliveries before Mehidy trapped him LBW without scoring. With wickets falling all around him, Hope kicked into a different gear. He waited for the few bad deliveries and mis-fields to come and took advantage of them. Rovman Powell’s miserable time with the bat continued but it was not without controversy. With 6 men on the leg-side which should have resulted in a no-ball being called and free hit given, Powell instead found himself walking back to the dressing room, caught behind for 1.

Roston Chase made 8, while Fabian Allen added 6. Once again Keemo Paul stuck around with Hope and they posted a 28-run partnership. Paul took advantage of having a quick running partner, when he couldn’t get boundaries or sixes, both him and Hope took twos and singles to get the WINDIES to a respectable score. All the while, Hope was blistering the Bangladesh bowlers, he struck 9-fours and 1-six to bring up his second successive ODI century of this series. Going for a big heave, Paul was bowled by Mashrafe Mortaza for 12. Kemar Roach was LBW by Mashrafe for 3. Devendra Bishoo stayed with Hope until the end of the innings, however, in the final over, Hope was struck on the front of his helmet. He sought some medical attention from the physio and batted out the innings, finishing on 108 not out.

The WINDIES 198/9 from their 50 overs. Shai Hope 108 not out, Marlon Samuels 19. Bowling for Bangladesh Mehidy Hasan Miraz had figures of 4/29, while Mashrafe Mortaza had 2/34 and Shakin Al Hasan 2/40.

The Bangladesh batsmen made easy work of the reasonable total. Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar were the two wickets to fall. Das for 23, while Soumya had a 131-run partnership with Tamim Iqbal before falling for 80. The WINDIES missed the fierce pace of Oshane Thomas who was rested. The bowling attack was dealt a further blow when Kemar Roach hobbled off the field with the physio. An examination revealed the issue to be hamstring spasms which needed rest and icing. Shimron Hetmyer kept wicket after Shai Hope was placed under observation due to the blow received on his helmet while batting earlier. Both Roach with 3 overs bowled and Hope played no part in the WINDIES defense of their small total.

Mushfiqur Rahim joined Tamim and the pair took Bangladesh to victory in 38.3 overs. Tamim finished not out on 81, while Mushfiqur was on 16 not out. Keemo Paul took both Bangladesh wickets, finishing with figures of 2/38. Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his 4/29 was Player of the Match, while Shai Hope who amassed 297 runs for the series was Player of the Series.

Liton scored today which was also good bbut Miraz is turning it around and may be he willl become better than Shadab in Odi as well.We have guys who after taking few wickets become complacent but Miraz is improving day by day.

Excellent victory by BD. It's a decent WI team and the series win was comprehensive. BD seems to be peaking before the WC. Not sure I understand the role of Soumya Sarkar. He keeps moving between 3 to 6. The weakling for BD team is at the top. Litton and Kayes are very inconsistent. One of them should perform along with Tamim consistently.

SO, Hetmeyer truly becomes the bunny of miraz. Till now he was out 6 times out of 7 innings across formats by MIRAZ in the tour.
