There are over 100 indian players who have played in this IPL so far. How can we claim to have superior quality with so many local players? not even half of them will be international standard. I'm saying this because many fans (and some experts and former cricketers) claim that IPL is 'tougher' Or 'superior' than international cricket. That's rubbish.

Also these leagues, on one hand people claim that T20 leagues will replace international cricket except for ICC events and on the other hand most of these leagues project themselves as a 'platform' for developing young cricketers who can help that country do better internationally or as a platform to help develop cricket in the country. If there is no international cricket itself then what's the point of the above?

I feel the excess number of IPL teams has reduced the quality. No doubt IPL is a really big league but the bowling attacks look weak. Can't imagine the richest league having a guy like Nathan Ellis opening the attack.

50 off 40

Even Kohli knows it’s poor

Kohli is good only for bashing the 155 kph Pakistani spraygun. He struggles against these 130-135 kph trundlers like Curran, Arshdeep and Ellis.

A fifteen run over is hardly a bashing these days. I recall the Asia cup spell where Haris gave 2 runs in 4 balls in the 19th over.

Mohammed Siraj bagged a four-wicket haul as Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Punjab Kings by 24 runs in an IPL 2023 match at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Siraj took 4/21 as RCB restricted PBKS to 254 all out in 18.2 overs. Earlier, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli hit half-centuries, but PBKS managed to restrict RCB to 174/4. Harpreet Brar dismissed Virat Kohli (59) and Glenn Maxwell (0) off consecutive deliveries, while Nathan Ellis got the better of Faf (84)

Mandeep is simply wasting balls , Pandit was supposed to be a tacticaly good coach , but he has failed big time , KKR looks like a ship without rudder.

KKR well behind par total here , there will be dew also , KKR look to have been playing without any plan.

KKR should have batted better and got to at least 150 runs , losing to Delhi will hurt KKR , and willcost them a place in play off.

DC vs KKR, IPL 2023: David Warner, Bowlers Shine As Delhi Capitals Beat Kolkata Knight Riders For First Win Of Season
IPL 2023: Manish Pandey and David Warner during DC's match vs KKR on Thursday,© BCCI/IPL
Skipper David Warner found his perfect hitting arc after Ishant Sharma rolled back the years but even then Delhi Capitals stuttered badly in a modest chase before beating Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets on Thursday to stay afloat in this edition of the IPL. With their backs to the wall after five defeats on the trot, the DC bowling line-up collectively came to the party as KKR managed only 127 on a spicy deck which aided both pacers and spinners alike. Warner, DC's best batter this season, was struggling with his strike-rate in earlier games but on Thursday, he smashed 57 off 41 with the target being reached with four balls to spare.

The DC batting, save Warner looked wobbly once again but a below-par score perhaps saved the day for the home team as the ball started gripping in the second half of the chase making it difficult for strokeplay. Axar Patel (19 not out off 22 balls) despite a groin strain managed to take his team past the finishing line.

DC's victory was about two veterans winning the Powerplay contest for their team.

The 34-year-old Ishant (2/19 in 4 overs), who is well past his prime, got his first opportunity and used his oodles of experience to peg back KKR inside the 'Bowling Powerplay'.

The 36-year-old Warner then showed his destructive avatar hitting as many as 10 boundaries in the 'Batting Powerplay' to kill the contest and earn his team's first win of the competition.

The manner in which he swept, the two KKR spinners Sunil Narine and Anukul Roy hardly had any answers. In all, he hit 11 boundaries.

The win doesn't alter DC's standing in the points table as they remain last but the victory does give them hope for a turnaround.

Once Warner won a good toss and opted to field, Ishant, playing his first IPL match in over two seasons, was bang on target with 13 dot balls and hitting those immaculate three-quarter lengths, just like yesterday.

In rhythm, he still hits 140 clicks but once he was done with his four overs, he literally collapsed in the dug-out chair as Prithvi Shaw came in as 'Impact Player'.

His India days are well over and Ishant certainly would like to remain an 'IPL to IPL' player till his body allows him to take rigours of top flight cricket.

Mukesh Kumar (1/34 in 4 overs) also bowled well in the Powerplay while Axar (2/13 in 3 overs), who hasn't enjoyed favourable match-ups against left-handers, removed the dangerous Rinku Singh as KKR lost wickets in clumps.

If Ishant, Mukesh and Axar were brilliant in the front 10, Kuldeep Yadav (2/15 in 3 overs), who got Jason Roy (43 off 39 balls), was brilliant as he created doubts in the minds of the batters by varying his pace.

The pitch had a liberal tinge of green and Anrich Nortje (2/20 in 4 overs) bowled an ideal Test match length and the grass covering helped in a bit of deviation as in-form Venkatesh Iyer just managed to dangle his bat and the ball flew to Mitchell Marsh standing at first slip.

It was undoubtedly the ball of the innings but credit goes to Ishant as he didn't let Roy get away with a good start.

The bit of moisture after a delayed start due to steady drizzle had also freshened up the track and the bit of extra bounce found the batters in a bit of a problem.

Mukesh got rid of Litton Das, who miscued a pull, and the ball that Ishant bowled to dismiss Nitish Rana reared up and he couldn't check his lofted shot.

However, the wicket that completely changed the course was Rinku's slog sweep and the ball bounced tad extra to take the top edge and flew at a comfortable height for Lalit Yadav to catch it at deep square leg.

Once Rinku was gone, KKR batting unit seemed like losing the battle in its head as Andre Russell (38 not out off 31 balls), despite hitting four sixes, couldn't do enough to get his team to a par-score which was surpassed easily.

Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and have opted to field

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen(w), Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik

Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni(w/c), Maheesh Theekshana, Tushar Deshpande, Akash Singh, Matheesha Pathirana

Outside of that hundred, Brook struggled in IPL. Looked like he is being forced to play aggressively. To me he looks more of a Joe Root type of player. He will be an excellent ODI and Test batsman.

IPL 2023 Playoffs And Final Schedule Announced, Title-Decider To Be Held In Ahmedabad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule and venues for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playoffs and final on Friday. The three playoff matches -- Qualifier 1, Eliminator, and Qualifier 2 -- will be held on May 23, May 24 and May 26 respectively. The final will be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be held in Chennai. The Qualifier 2 will be held in Ahmedabad.

In a release, the BCCI wrote: "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced the schedule of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playoffs and final. The playoffs and final will be played from 23rd May to 28th May 2023 in Chennai and Ahmedabad. Qualifier 1 will be held on 23rd May at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium followed by the Eliminator on 24th May.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host Qualifier 2 and the TATA IPL final on 26th and 28th May respectively."

Last year's final was also held in Ahmedabad, with newcomers Gujarat Titans taking on Rajasthan Royals in the summit clash. It was the Hardik Pandya-led side that had emerged triumphant in that match, winning the contest in the first attempt.

For the last few seasons, the IPL was being held either outside India or in selected venues. With Chennai being selected as one of the venues for the knockouts, there would be huge excitement among fans of the Super Kings who have emerged as one of the most in-form teams this season.

MS Dhoni, who might not continue to feature in the IPL as a player, would be determined to go all the way in the contest and give CSK fans something to roar about before he hangs his boots.

100 up for Sunrisers , they have 33 more balls left , they need to be sensible and try to get to 140 - 150 here .

Slight frustration towards the end for CSK who would've loved to finish it off sooner. But Mayank Markande bowled a lovely spell, continuing his good form with the ball.

The result was hardly ever in doubt though. Markande delayed the inevitable, but CSK had it covered after another fantastic start provided by Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad. What a brilliant opening combo they've been. The two of them put on 87 for the for the first wicket, and were only separated because of an unfortunate run out which sent Gaikwad packing. Conway, though, kicked on past fifty to finish unbeaten and get his team home.

SRH just didn't have enough runs on the board today, with Ravindra Jadeja leading a brilliant effort from the CSK bowlers. He was complimented nicely by Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana as the visitors managed just 58 runs in the final 10 overs.

Has this year's tournament unearthed any future stars for India?

Has this year's tournament unearthed any future stars for India?
Not really.
We are keep playing with same IPL bullies like Ishan Kishan, Avesh Khan, KL Rahul Dubey, Chahal, Chahar, Ashwin etc.. Good for IPL.

Only Tilak Varma and Jaiswal are promising.

Tilak Verma is a fine talent, he is our local boy. I don't know why SRH doesn't select local talent, they let go of Siraj earlier although he was part of the title winning side in 2016. Now they don't select Tilak. Rayudu was never in their radar either.

It is when you select local talent that we get more interest in supporting a team. Honestly the only reason CSK, MI and RCB have big fan following is only because of MS, Rohit and Virat ...nothing to do with local talent or city specific loyalty.

MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sit at the No. 3 position in IPL 2023 points table with eight points from six matches played so far. They have same number of points as table toppers Rajasthan Royals and LSG have due they occupy the top-two spots due to better net run rate than the Men in Yellow. The four-time winners beat SRH by 7 wickets on Friday to continue good run on the field but off the field, there is no end to CSK's troubles. Already missing the services of Deepak Chahar and Sisanda Magala due to injury, CSK will now be without Ben Stokes for one more week after CSK head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that the 31-year-old star cricketer has suffered another injury set back and will remain out for one more week.

Stokes, who is out of action since CSK's second game against LSG was expected to make comeback against SRH but didn't feature and so when CSK head coach Fleming was asked about Stokes, he provided an update by saying Stokes has sufferd an injury and will stay out of the tournament for next week.

"Ben Stokes has suffered an injury set back and will be out for a week," Fleming said in the post-match press conference after CSK beat SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets on April 21. "Stokes, just a setback, I'm not gonna go into it, but it's not major. It's just he's close. He's working really hard to get right, can't fault that at all. So, he just needs a little bit luck."

MS Dhoni Injury Update

Apart from Stokes, CSK skipper MS Dhoni is also dealing with knee injury and was seen limping as well after team's game against Rajasthan Royals last week but according to the Kiwi legend Dhoni is fine and is managing his injury well.

"MS is completely fine. He is managing his injury well. He is available. He always keeps the team first. If he knows he can't contribute because of injury, he would have sat out himself. There is no concern with him," Fleming said.

Things are not going well for the Delhi Capitals as the team has lost all five matches they have played in IPL 2023. Adding more worries to the DC camp, the cricket bats of skipper David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Yash Dhull and other cricket equipment worth 16 lakhs have been stolen from the camp.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the stuff vanished while the team travelled from Bengaluru to Delhi. The players learned about this development when they received kit bags in their rooms.

"All of them were shocked when they heard that everyone had lost something or the other from their kit bags. This is the first time such an incident has happened and the matter was soon raised to the logistics department, police and later at the airport. The investigation is on," a source in Delhi Capitals told Indian Express.

As per the report, 16 bats along with pads, shoes, thigh pads and gloves were stolen from Delhi Capitals' players kit bags. 3 bats belong to David Warner, 2 of Mitchell Marsh, 3 of Phil Salt and 5 of Yash Dhull.

Delhi Police recovers stolen cricket kits of Delhi Capitals team, thanks to social media and vigilant authorities. The incident left the team in shock when 16 bats and essential kit items went missing, including David Warner's bats, gloves, thigh pads, shoes, and pads worth lakhs of rupees. The theft occurred during transit when the team returned from playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

DC skipper David Warner took to social media to thank the authorities for finding the items and catching the culprits. The team was elated to receive the now-recovered bats, pads, and gloves, although a few items are still missing. The missing items haven't been identified yet.

If Pandya turns up as captain for World Cup, we will definitely have a bright chance! His game will be more effective in ODIs... And he will surely do well in T20s too (as a captain). GT is an inspired IPL team! If anything to take from IPL, this is it...

LSG 128/7 (20)

Gujarat Titans won by 7 runs

KL Rahul & Pandya (the best buddies) are such a contrast in mind game! One is a midget and the other is a brilliant utilizer of resources! Probably if KL plays under Pandya (instead of making KL as captain), even he can perhaps improve his game!

Brilliant example of taking it deep.

Brilliant example of intent.

Such batting, much wow.

There are three styles of batting :

1. High strike rate batsman but can get out anytime.

2. Low strike rate batsman but takes deep and finish games like MSD.

3.Low strike rate batsman, takes it deep and then chokes when pressure is high in the final over. That's KL Rahul style and only he follows. :inti

Lucknow have gone the KKR way under GG in using these low slow wickets to aid their spinners but boy these games are terrible to watch

KL Rahul has played 50+ balls in an IPL innings 26 times. 12 of those have resulted in defeats for his team - 46% !!

One of the worst T20 innings by KL.
What a selfish players he is..

RCB is the much selfless franchisee which offers pure batting belters in spite of knowing that they have the weakest bowling attack on earth and can be murdered always!

Punjab struggling here , I guess the top 3 teams for playoffs are already settled. There is a marked difference between the team.

SIXXXX

Curran hammers that.

Punjab should look to bat sensibly , you never know 150 may be difficult to chase in the end. They have 30 balls , they hould target around 40 - 45 runs , that will get them to 160 plus.

Mumbai need 55 runs in 26 balls.

This is going to be interesting if Punjab can get acouple of more quick wickets

20+ yrs of Cricket watching, Haven’t seen the middle stump broken on consecutive deliveries.

Just 11 runs and 3 wickets from Arshdeep Singh's last 2 overs. In such high-scoring thrillers, you need someone with a calm head and of course a bit of experience as well.

Arshdeep was at the receiving a few times and today he had the opportunity to redeem himself. Yes, the wickets column and the method of dismissals might make you go wow, but the real moment of the game when Arshdeep took a pause before delivering the 4th ball off the 18th over. He conceded 6 off the first ball and was under huge pressure before bowling his first ball to Mumbai's number 4. SKY, by then, smoked his fastest IPL fifty and was in no mood to relent. Arshdeep made SKY wait, switched to round the wicket and denied room for SKY on both sides of the wicket. He bowled a dipping full toss at the pads and messed up with the timing.

Taide, indeed, deserves a huge chunk of credit for that moment, but it allowed Arshdeep to close the over out on a high. 6 off the 1st ball and just 3 off the next 5 balls.

In a World of "Fans and experts" who think watching sixes is the only source of entertainment in cricket, be an Arshdeep singh and break middle stumps! 👏👏👏

Absolutely Loved it!

Surely that LSG game needs to be investigated?

They needed 36 to win off 40 at one point but then lost by 9 runs

Pure dodgy game. Match was fixed

Tbf Hardik’s team bowled really well but how could you honestly lose by 9 runs when at one stage you needed 36 to win off 40 balls with 9 wickets in hand? The captain was there until the final over too!

Surely he should be sacked as the leader at least if this isn’t suspicious

Mohit Sharma is such an underrated T20 bowler

Guy knows how to bowl at the death

Salute!

They were allowed to ball well. No proper intention to close out the game. All senior players played a dodgy game, Win predictor had KL team winning at 98%, imagine the odds on that one??
