From India'a point of view, the shining stars of this season till now have been Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Yashasvi will have to compete with Gill and Ruturaj but being a left hander will give him an advantage. Kishan seems a minnow basher but not ideal first choice player vs top teams.

Rinku is a long term prospect for finishers role because he keeps his body position still and has the range to hit the boundaries in the final overs. In India's T20 setup, he can come in at 6 with Pandya moving up at 5.

Kishan is a hack. He has some talent in hitting, but his shot selection is worse than Rishab Pant.

Jaiswal will not get a chance until senior statesmen like Rohit retires. Ideally I would want Gill and Jaiswal to open in T20's for India. Rinku Singh has a lot of talent to hit big down the order. He needs one more super successful IPL season under his belt to get his opportunity.

258 is the target , Punjab is gone here .

The only reason LSG are not winning more is KL Rahul. He is holding that team back. Perhaps after Yash Thakur, KL is the worst player in the squad.

If Shahrukh Khan is playing as a pure batsman, why the hell is he playing at No.8? PBKS needs to get their batting order right.

Once LSG scored 257, the game's fate was almost sealed.

Mayers started the fun. Badoni and Stoinis sustained it. Pooran added the final touches. LSG amassed runs and ignominy. Punjab bowlers were sent for a hiding at Mohali. They ended up conceding 257 runs and that meant the fate of the contest was always going to go one way.

Punjab were dented again when their openers hardly contributed anything. Taide batted with a fearless approach. And then a string of cameos followed. But none really threatened the chase.

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans, 39th Match

Gujarat Titans have won the toss and have opted to field

Teams:
Gujarat Titans (Playing XI): Wriddhiman Saha(w), Abhinav Manohar, Hardik Pandya(c), Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma, Joshua Little

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): N Jagadeesan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana(c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, David Wiese, Shardul Thakur, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy

I like Gujarat's bowling attack, lots of pedigree in it. Shami, Pandya, Mohit, Rashid, Noor - all good bowlers for this format.

Still no Liton Das. This is very shameful from KKR management.

David Weise is not being utilised well as he bats at 8 and doesn't bowl at all.

KKR will be better off if they open with Roy and Liton/Gurbaz both and drop Weise.

This will strengthen their bowling attack and batting is anyways not required much at 7-8. Narine can bat at 8.

Russell still has a lot of utility for KKR as he is the best pacer KKR got. He bowls faster than Southee and is better all round T20 bowler than Umesh.

Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 40th Match

Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and have opted to bat

Teams:

Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): David Warner(c), Philip Salt(w), Mitchell Marsh, Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, Axar Patel, Ripal Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen(w), Harry Brook, Abdul Samad, Mayank Markande, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akeal Hosein, Umran Malik

What is it about Gujarat Titans and chases that make them so indomitable?

A chase essayed to perfection. They lost Wriddhi Saha early but Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya stitched a superb 50 run partnership. Gill played aggressor in the powerplay, picking out gaps and scoring freely against the pacers.

It looked like these two might just finish the game off at one stage, but KKR responded with two quick wickets as Pandya and Gill were out off successive overs. Vijay Shankar and David Miller took some time to settle in, the former in particular looked like he was handing the inititiative away.

But Vijay Shankar knew exactly what he was doing, as he switched gears at exactly the right time to thump Chakravarthy for three sixes to get a 24-ball fifty.

Miller started that carnage to take down Suyash Sharma who had bowled beautifully till that point. In the end, GT chased down the target with more than two overs to spare. Chased with ice in their veins, calm all the way.

Another defeat for KKR, who take one step forwards but take two steps back. They finally found some runs through Russell and Gurbaz, but today their ever reliable spinners turned out to be expensive.

SRH 197/6 (20)

DC 188/6 (20)

Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 9 runs

These two sides have traded away victories against each other. A clinical performance from SRH, who found their death bowling mojo once again through Natarajan and Bhuvi Kumar. They started the innings by dismissing the dangerous Warner for a duck, but then DC added a 112-run partnership between Mitch Marsh and Phil Salt.

The duo looked like they'd take the game away, but shortly after the halfway stage the wickets began to tumble.

Neither of the two set batters could continue for much longer after their fifties, and the pitch got slower to make things tough.

Puzzling tactics from DC as well who kept holding Axar back to play into SRH's match-ups.

A sense of relief for Markram and his boys, who got back to winning ways, with Abhishek Sharma and Klaasen setting up this win with first innings fifties.

Just saw the lineups of IPL this. KKR, DC, KXIP and SRH look extremely weak compared to the other 4. GT and CSK look the strongest

This is what it is, at the start I had to search for the squads to see which team Ashwin is playing for... Most of us don't even remember players in a team and if you go to social media you get a feeling that fans are dying to watch and support franchise cricket.

I may be naive in terms of following Indian upcoming players but the said 4 teams are totally depending on their foreign players. Narine and Russell are probably done.

GT have been extremely smart about their picks. Building a team around Rashid, Miller, Gill and Pandya has been a masterstroke. SRH should be kicking themselves for giving away Rashid.

Delhi messed it themselves by sending Sarfaraz and Priyam ahead of in-form and the better hitter Axar Patel.

Axar till now was arguably their best batsman.

Former Pakistan captain and pace bowling legend Wasim Akram came down hard at the PBKS duo following the game; he wondered whether the bowlers practice different variations and gave suggestions on tackling the power-hitting from batters.

“Unbelievable. In our times, we would've won with 257 on the board. You see, this is what I talk about. I understand T20 is difficult for bowlers. But if I was a bowler in today's era and I was getting hit with a particular run-up and side, I would make my run-up more angular and come from around the wicket,” Akram told Sportskeeda as he talked about the game.

"I haven't seen many right-handed bowlers, except probably Dwayne Bravo, who could bowl yorkers outside off-stump from around the wicket. And that comes with practice. You can come from around the wicket, or maybe run from behind the umpire. The idea is to create a doubt in batsman's mind. These guys don't.

“Rabada and Arshdeep conceded 106 runs in their 8 overs. Were you bowling full-tosses? Or were you telling the batters in advance, 'I'll bowl there, hit me for six'. Unbelievable. I know bowlers get hit, but this is carnage,” Akram further said.

I never meant to blame you, I myself don't remember the squads and most of us don't. Just used your post as an example.

Sometimes I don't understand why should we watch two random teams playing against each other just because one of the teams is named after my city?

Hyderabad winning Ranjhi trophy will give me far more happiness than SRH winning IPL.

Who would have predicted a third off the last ball when just before that Raza was potentially asking if he can be retired off so that a better runner could come in for the last ball.

If you were a bookie, you would have predicted anything but a third off that delivery. But PBKS get home in a thriller and it is Raza who has hit the winning runs.

Earlier on, PBKS knew that the powerplay was the phase when they had to go harder as the wicket was bound to get slower. Dhawan and Prabhsimran got off to a quick start before the former fell. Dhoni soon brought on his spinners and that began the middle phase when the runs did not come fluently and the wickets came.

The two Englishmen - Livingstone and Curran joined hands and immediately after the 2nd timeout, Deshpande and Jadeja went for 41 which turned the game. But CSK came back with crucial wickets even as Jitesh again looked set to take his side home but a close call went CSK's way in the penultimate over when the sub Rasheed's catch was deemed OK by the third ump.

Raza came out and struck a boundary before he finished it off in the final over against Pathirana who bowled really well but ended up on the losing side. Not easy to chase 200 against CSK at home but PBKS have just done that which will boost their confidence so much.

If we exclude the Jaiswal innings, the others scored 63 runs off 59balls.

112 of his 124 runs have come in boundaries . That is highest boundary % in IPL history

This is the impact of Jaiswals innings

Green promoted up the order , shows MI looking to win , they know how important this game is .

Green is playing very well , if he stays there for another 5 - 6 overs , MI would be in a strong position.

Mumbai need 62 runs in 30 balls.

This has been a solid chase , it should go right down the wire

Mumbai need 37 runs in 16 balls.

It will be interesting how much MI need in the last over , if it is 10 runs , they should win.

1000th game of the IPL and it deserved something like this...

A spectacular chase by the home side, they needed this win and Suryakumar, Cam Green, Tilak Varma and then Tim David were determined to get them there!!

MI lost the wicket of Rohit early, and Kishan threatened in the powerplay but fell to his kryptonite of off spin. MI looked forlorn in the first 10 overs of the innings, as they allowed Ashwin to bowl out a meagre spell.

However, the turning point came when Suryakumar Yadav took on impact player Kuldeep Sen and smoked 20 off the over. Today was the day the top-ranked T20I batter really came to the party, as he entertained the crowd with some of his trademark strokes. He deserved to end things, and would have been there too but for a surreal catch from Sandeep Sharma running back from short fine.

However, nothing was to stop MI today as Tim David came out and played an unreal cameo - 45 off 14 balls, with five sixes. A crucial win for MI... but spare a thought for Yashasvi Jaiswal who played the innings of this IPL, scored his maiden IPL ton but ended on the wrong side of the result.

It's all good bro. Didn't take it in a negative way.

I think as long as it's generating the tons of money, BCCI won't really care about anything else. Only if it starts to decline in terms of money generation and profits, would they think about it.

I agree players actually playing for their cities or regions is what really brings loyalty and gives the team its identity. Franchise teams everywhere look very manufactured and they are designed as such. The only t20 tournament where you get to see players playing for their cities/regions is the natwest t20 and i prefer it over the hundred.

If Jason Holder bats at 5 and gets his full quota of overs then it means something is not right with the quality of the tournament.

A lot of these average blokes have minted money from the IPL due to ban on Pakistan players.

Agreed mate!

Two very interesting and last over games today. I think the substitute rule has enabled the batting side to continue to be aggressive throughout the innings. Which is why you see so many high scores and successful chases.

The substitute rule benefits batting more than the bowling.

Standout IPL Indian players XI(2023) :-

1. Jaiswal
2. Ruturaj
3. V Iyer
4. S Dube
5. Rinku
6. Jitesh(wkt)
7. Axar
8. Chawla
9. Shami
10. Siraj
11. Arshdeep

This year's IPL has been tremendous hit in terms of finding local talents (especially batting). But I have zero hopes at selectors seeing this with sharp eyes. At the most they can bring back Rahane (like they did with DK) considering his so-called "experience", but we may not see Jaishwal, Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, etc, being drafted in. We may continue to see Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul et al featuring again... These young guys have to wait like SKY to get a chance (after they cross 30) and then they will find difficult to cope with the pressure and ups & downs of the competitive international cricket!

IPL MEDIA ADVISORY

May 01, 2023

Royal Challengers Bangalore name Kedar Jadhav as replacement for David WilleyRoyal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday named Kedar Jadhav as replacement for David Willey for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Willey, the England all-rounder, played four matches for RCB this season and scalped three wickets,Jadhav, who made his IPL debut in 2010, has so far played 93 IPL games and has 1196 runs against his name.

The right-handed batter, who has previously represented RCB in 17 matches, was brought on board for INR 1 Crore.

KL Rahul should simply concentrate on his test cricket. He can play IPL though, but he should stay away from other international cricket (T20 & ODIs). This will help him keep his fitness & form.

Kohli playing his typical slow innings. 17(15). This is in power play. No commentator dares to call this low s/r on live tv.

Kohli now 24(25) :))

Pakistani posters complain about Babar Azam and Rizwan, but Kohli is a complete beast when it comes to playing slow innings.
