Terrible bowler, Plunkett. He'll never get the opposition's best batsmen out clean bowled first ball. There must be someone better in England than this bloke.

A decent spell and Robert is back to his best blindly hyping the English players. Typical Robert.

Dhoni showing some backbone here. Also never got why a lot of Indians call Vijay a hack he has a solid technique

India got themselves in a big mess. Murli will have to play game of his life. You cannot trust English tailenders, a small target is not safe

India should aim for 230-40 as a fighting score. Anything over 275 they will be favourites

Anderson bowling wrong lines, needs to make them play, 6 easy leaves for Vijay in that over

He was a bunny against swing before.

Don't know how he transformed himself. Even Dravid sounded shocked.

Did well against Aus, SA in SA, didn't convert starts in NZ and now Eng in Eng.

india need to bat till post lunch drinks to have any chance of winning this match likely to score 110-120 more

Vijay can be a hero here, just keep going and double the current lead!

Also, Plunkett has had a niche role to play for England. Scored that fifty and took out two key wickets.

All in all the game is on a knife's edge and I can't wait for tomorrow.

Had my heart in my mouth the whole time. Looked like getting out any minute.

he charged down to liam and exposed all of his stumps i mean it was embarrassing almost gave his wicket away very lucky to survive

What do you think is wrong with Kohli he has messed up at the start of the series again.

Lack of form. 2 great deliveries. Some technical problems have cropped up. He doesn't exactly know where his off stump is for sure which led to his dismissal today.

I know we Indians are too harsh on him. He isn't a superstar in Tests, just made to be one. He has a LONG way to go in Tests. Last time, when he got owned by WI in WI and got dropped for Eng tour, he accepted that he didn't deserve it, went back, worked on his game and made a comeback.

He will do the same now. Only difference is that he won't be dropped cos he is an important member. And rightly so.

He started off very well in Test cricket and looked a good prospect with a solid technique and lots of patience. He then went through a period where he was very poor. Many think this was because of too much T20 cricket. But his technique has tightened up a lot again and he now looks the batsman we all thought he could have been when he first played test cricket 6 years ago against Australia.

Too close to call.

Further complicated by the fact that neither side has a match-winning spinner.

Anything over 260 to chase in the 4th innings could be very difficult.

Do you really think Plunkett and Balance would have scored so heavily.......in the first innings.
With Ashwin in the team. Cook would already be resigning......

They cannot play any decent spin.

Oh ok. As an Ashwin fan myself, I am not so sure but you are so sure.

Good to hear.

England v India | 2nd Test | July 17-21 2014 | Lord's | Day 4

Very balanced at the moment with India leading by 145 runs and 6 wickets in hand

Very exciting day up ahead...the pendulum could swing either way...England slight favourites as India are effectively 145/4 with the tail exposed(dhoni)

England firm favorites.. india need to add atleast 100 more runs to stay afloat in the match. Tough job in hands

Day 4, let's go.

My worst fear even if we get a decent enough lead is that Dhoni will want to bat on and on with no signs of a declaration. Can't even recall the last time we ever declared lol.

Shouldn't be a problem if we're bowled out but we need a sizable lead before that!

An interesting conundrum if ever there was one.

100% cloud over London this morning. That might burn off by the afternoon.

India need Dhoni to do something like what he did in 2007 at Lords where he hit a 70 odd from 200 balls. On paper Vijay, Dhoni, Jadeja, Binny, and B Kumar should be able to get India a healthy lead here.

Feeling a touch nervous.

If Pujara didn't poke outside off-stump yesterday we wouldn't be in this soup at all.

India need a counterattacking innings from Dhoni.Vijay can hold steady. This is a result match, one way or another,we cant play for a draw and we need runs.Dhoni will not survive for long if he tries to defend,he's not capable of it.Must put pressure on cook

Yep Its partly Pujara's fault. I have high standards for him and I blame him for this mess.

So true.

See Dhoni must play off the unplayable deliveries and go after the rest.

In this pitch, an aggressive 30 might be worth more than 18(70) because Dhoni is INCAPABLE of playing the waiting game and then capitalizing on it which Vijay can.

Vijay should just keep doing what is doing.

Dhoni's innings was perfect for yesterday's scenario, had he got out early there was always a chance of big collapse

England need to bowl at the stumps more - make the batsmen play. Are they scared that they'll go for runs?

What would be a good total on this track? Knowing England anything over 350, they will just go into their shell.

The Lords pitch always flattens out as the game goes on. As long as it doesn't start crumbling/taking to spin then England will be comfortable chasing 230-270. India need to set them a bit more than that imo however they also need more than 3 sessions to try and bowl them out. At this stage all 3 results very much in the picture because teams have been batting so slowly.

300(if they can get there) with 4 sessions or around 110 overs to bowl England out should be the way to go then. Unless Dhoni just wants to keep on playing for draws.

Warney on commentary saying that the England team think the pitch is getting better for batting and he thinks they'd be comfortable chasing 250-270ish.

For me a target of 275 = England favourites, 300 = 50-50, 325 = India favourites.
