Anderson must be furious. Pretty much every run has come from a drop or an edge this spell.

Ashwin looking to play to leg, edges and the ball hits Buttler high on his gloves/hand. Didn't look like catching it.

Ashwin survives and is on 26.
 
Beautiful Beautiful delivery. That ball would have taken the middle stump of most batsmen.

Ash luckily gets his bat and the catch is dropped.

Ashwin looks great but he is playing too many shots against swinging Anderson. His skill level is pretty amazing but he's lucky to be not out.

I think it was a drop catch.

I am sure Butler might have thought that the ball is going down the leg with the angle. But the swing was epic.
 
This is the kind of game we expect in England! The swing, the oohs, the aahs... Not 500s and 600s

Yeah, but any batsman would need luck in these conditions. Surprising thing is that Ashwin has looked the most assured so far, and that's when he is looking to score quick.

I really do feel that we have one amazing batting talent in Ashwin here.

If he can bowl with some brains, he will be dangerous. But knowing Aaron, he will spray the ball and the odd good ball will lead to an edge only to be put down by Slip fielders.

England has never been low scoring. Have a look at our 1996/2002/2007 series - all high scorers.

I think that Ashwin will do well wth bat and ball in this match and should have been there from the first test.
 
Always love these fightback games.. Nottingham '11 was one such for England

MSD needs to have a word with him. He is too good a batsmen to play like that.

Ahsin goes for a solid 40, and misses out on much more.

Ashwin is a proper batsman.

Jaddu isn't.

For Jaddu, attack may work better.

I have seen lots of Ashwin innings closely and I know that when he plays sensibly with controlled aggression, he does well.

When he over attacks, he scores fast and this happens.

Now India might have to settle for around 150.

With Ashwin there, 200 looked quite easy.

Even 250 was possible.

England were slowly becoming more and more defensive.

Sometimes even Ashwin irritates.

When you show so much potential and waste it on a nothing shot, its annoying. He could have simply guided that for a single with a vertical bat.

Would have done that in his sleep.

But nooooooo......:facepalm:

He edged Anderson only once and was beaten a few times.

With the swing that Jimmy is getting, most batsmen in the world would have been beaten.

Ashwin was the only batsmen who seemed to have loads of time to play. Just threw it away in the end.

If Jimmy bowls 5 more overs and we need him again after tea... We would have let it go on for too long. Anderson is better than Woakes and Jordan leaking runs with no chances at the other end.

Did you see what he was actually doing?

He was trying to play all the balls with the bat. Everything. It takes some serious skills to do that. And he was succeeding except for a few deliveries where he was CLEARLY lucky. Risky move I agree.

Of course, his skill isn't that high to beat Anderson in this kind of mood (if he had that, he would be something else) but if he had tried to play with a proper straight bat, he would have done much much better against him.

I thought he made a good counterattack. India would have been shot out for 100 without him. Can't expect too much of a #8 when the top four got four runs between them!

His counter attack was great. He just over did it (against Anderson).

When he over attacks, he scores fast and this happens.

Remember his shot against Monty in second innings in Mumbai when he looked at another level compared to Indian batters in that pitch? Too much aggression and he gets out.

I have watched Ashwin bat before many times and he is a much better batsman than the likes of Rohit/Gambit/Dhawan in difficult conditions especially.

This guy will be one of the best all rounders that India would have ever produced when he retires. Most fans who watched Ashwin expect a little more from him than 40 runs. He looked set for an easy 50.

reminds me of your post about ashwin...something on the lines that if ashwin gets in not matter how much it swings or seams or spins he will not get out...i told then also that he aint the second coming of tendulkar :P
