What's new

England v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Manchester | Jul 22-26, 2016 | Day 1

For the uninitiated, Rahat set up Ballance bowling pitched up outswingers previous over, and they were somewhat wide. The wicket came off an inoming delivery shorter in length which Ballance was trying to play like an outswinger to third man.

This is whats killing MODERN test match crcket -the pitches.

WIN THE TOSS AND YOU'VE WON THE GAME.(vast majority of the time if there is a result).

Because batsmen aren't always attacking. Unless you're vince.

Well Root is playing the cover drive quite frequently, if it is a slower ball which he doesn't spot there is a chance that it may balloon in the air.

I know people might laugh at this but this is the kind of Pitch where Hafeez might actually come to the party. I am expecting a good innings from the professor this time. He's our best back foot player and the pace on the pitch is decent enough for his style of play.

He has the potential, but he only puts it to work 20% of the time. The rest 80%, he's very inconsistent.

EDIT: I knew we should've taken new ball 2morrow morning. Valid point raised by Holding.

I second this. Mandatory one off ton from Hafeez coming up hopeful

Why don't they ever try slow bowls in a test match

Because unlike Limited Overs cricket the slower delivery is to induce a mistake when the batsmen are playing shots which is very unlikely in the Test matches. Unless and until you have pace like Akhtar only then can a slower delivery be effective in test cricket.

For a while now, Pak bowlers have been exhibiting inconsistencies akin to Indian bowlers (no offence intended). Need to bring about a proper bowling coach. How can Mushtaq teach these pacers anything when he's a leg spinner?

If its sunny like today when hafeez bats then he may do really well, but if its overcast then hes gonna struggle esp against anderson.

That would be correct, but Root is trying to drive whenever possible. If one of those drives is on a slower ball (that he fails to detect) then the ball will balloon in the air..

Yeah I think that would turn the match on its head cuz Root is key to England getting 450 or 500 perhaps.

He looks set for a double century if I'm being honest.

He was always likely to punish us in this match after 2 pathetic dismissals in the last game

I agree but hopefully tomorrow we can come out positively and try to get England before 450 or perhaps even 400 if it rains

Similar to how India ended yesterday India were 304/4 with Kohli at 143. England 314/4 with Root at 141.

Ash came up the pecking order at 6, Woakes does too today.

Guys fiqar not.. days 3 and 5 are supposed to be rain effected. Just survive this test and see what happens in the next one

So Rahat ended up with more wickets than What and Amir? Man gets too much stick on these pages.....

His malfunctioning cerebral cortex doesn't help either, haven't seen a more bias person than him to be honest. Make Ravi Shastri look like a neutral

Ravi is a cheerleader for India.

But not a biased dude when talking about other countries. Gives credit where its due.
