What's new

England v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Manchester | Jul 22-26, 2016 | Day 1

Nice 'no-ball'.... Botham saying the problem is that he is too close.

Yeah well, it's not a no-ball unless you're over the line, genius.

Ian botham always seems grumpy when on commentary. Pakistan need 3 wickets here some how to get a foot hold back in the game

called a NO ball, and it wasnt! dharmasena showing what a blind umpire he is as usual.

Can someone tell me why cant they just paint a box for the bowlers dangerzone so that the bowler can see where not to step after their delivery.
p.s. thanks beefy, i hope umpirs are just as vigilant when england bowl esp anderson who has had problems in the past with his follow through.

Yea let's see if Beefy is so vocal about it then.

Haha no gower mentioning no balls not been spotted! i wonder which game hes talking about? :)))

in this series so far have they shown the follow through of any of the english bowlers by comparison and whether they might be 'clipping' the edge of the box?

Time to press panic button for Pak. Close to 300 on the board, and Bairstow, Woakes, Stokes, Broad still to bat. The time is now to save the test. Not after England pile up 480. Can Pak find some magic?

I don't have much faith in the guys to come cuz for me they are still untested apart from Bairstow and to an extent Stokes so I wouldn't push the panic button yet

No they didn't. Anderson is always close let's see what they do

Root was always going to punish us in this game after 2 reckless shots in the 1st game.

Nope ..they only scrutinise the Pakistani teams i guess.

I recall Beefy saying at Lords they are doing it to help Yasir in the 2nd innings

Now calling legit deliveries no balls!
This s just a ploy to put off our bowlers

300+ for just 3 wickets loss makes England in commanding position. They will try to declare around 500

Wondering if theres any point taking the new ball as we are likely to waste it.

Think if England manage to score anything above 400, Pakistan will go on the defensive and try to draw the game.

Have you considered perhaps that thats because they haven't been entering the danger area? Anderson is usually the only one that's any doubt.

Wahab should go further back instead of getting so close although some of the calls have been close. The umpiring standard has been disappointing in the series so far.

Feel like smacking the umpire on the head, he's giving no balls for fun. I think he has called 2 or 3 wrong no balls today

I wouldn't call it a poor standard, it's just been very 'aggressive' if you can term it that.

Won't belittle Pakistan at all, this was just some positive cricket from England, well basically their key batsman: Root and Cook.

Regular day at the office for Wahab 'I can't take wickets to save my life but I rough the batsmen up' Riaz.

Misbah captaincy can be so weird at times. Balance isn't going to go over mid on yet misbah puts the fielder deep

That wasn't legit. Close call but that's rightly a noball

Bro you dont get it, with all due respect. England have pressurised the umpires because they are afraid of yasir in their 2nd innings and pak having 3 lefties making rough for him.
now you can say that the umpires are just doing their job but in the last few years umpires have missed so many no balls basically only ones been called is when a wicket falls and 3rd umpire checks for no ball.
also this is breaking our bowlers rhythm and concentration.

This pitch isn't just flat, it is as dry as a bone. It will quicken up slightly though.

If ever Shan Masood, Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali and Younis Khan are going to hit a century outside Asia, it's in this match.

Put differently, if they can't score big runs here, they have no future as Test cricketers.

Chill out with your conspiracy theories bro.

No seam movement at all. That has to benefit us. The batsmen should be able to take advantage of that.

It's going to look like a seamer's paradise once England bowl after putting up 480 on the board.

Pakistan is basically out of the match now. I didn't expect such a solid performance from the English bats .Pakistan as most often we see, just can't penetrate after a solid good partnership. They need a fightback spirit to be a consistent good test side.

Yasir was getting breakthrough on a regular basis in Lord's test and England couldn't find any big partnership, that's why Pakistan didn't panic. Here after a big partnership and England in rock solid position, it is to be seen whether Pakistan can fight back with their bowlers or batsmen. If they can and manage to win or make a draw it will be a masterclass.

IF Moeen was bowling he would have been taken off around ten times today, Yasir still going!
That's how spinners should be bowled Cook!

Umpires really on Paks case today no balls, running on the wicket......the Comm team is the England 12th man.

Pakistan should have known.....

Looking forward to Moeen getting a fifer

Pressurised? They don't have to pressurise them when the Pakistani bowlers have quite clearly been following through into the danger area.

What is with Misbah? Give Yasir a damn break, he bowled the entire day without rest.

Misbah should keep the field close for Balance. He's not going to hit over the fielder that is deep so bring him closer.

Can't agree more with you cuz this pitch is really dead though thankfully not as dead as Abu Dhabi. I expect that Hafeez one off ton here. Shan Mason should also look for a 50 as well. Azhar should practice playing the yorkers better. The rest of the middle order should score big if pitch remains same

Is it going to crack? I see lots of brown colour grass with deep root.

There isn't a need for a deep square leg with a new ball, what is misbah doing and why would amir try a short ball with the new ball?

Chill out with your conspiracy theories bro.

Its not a conspiracy theory!
Botham was crying about it on commentary all last test and suddenly the umpires started to warn wahab about his follow through . Theres a thread on here about it check it out.
And england are 100% worried the 3 lefties causing rough for yasir to exploit in their next innings , seriously, if you dont know that theres alot you need to learn about cricketing tactics.
