It isn't about his honesty that is making our blood boil...its his stupidity. If he wasn't sure that he took the catch..then its also possible that he might have been unsure that he took it "cleanly" and yet failed to realized that, that in the end he caught it. So what he should have done is just kept quiet and let the umpire handle it.
