I wonder if its possible to coat the bat with something that doesn't leave a hot mark when edged..

not saying thats what happened but an intriguing thought

I'm guessing the idea would be to reduce friction, and thus heat energy. But, the problem with this theory is that it does not account for the big sound we heard, which is also the product of friction. So, for that large of a sound, we would have seen something for sure.

Great shot by Lax!

India is on top. England desperately need a wicket here.

The noise can be ANYTHING.

Even the pads, hitting each other.

Or the shoes scraping the ground.

Don't rely on snicko. Its overrated.

Still haven't been told what the sound was if it wasn't an edge.

Hotspot works on exothermic reactions, ala, the ball hitting the bat and generating heat. The heat is then detected using black and white infrared.

To avoid hotspot detection a bat would have to be covered in some form of coating that results in an endothermic reaction (absorb heat).

From memory, there are not many processes in the universe that are endothermic thus there's very little chance of coating the bat with anything to escape Hotspot.

The fact of the matter is, an ultra faint connection with the bat will not show up on Hotspot.

Haha , Starcricket showing Anderson arguing with Rauf along with the PK video :)))

Star commentary is so biased. Wasim the fool is also joining the cheerleaders.

Exactly, on field umpire gave it not out. Got reviewed and still not out.

India are set to take a HUGE lead here.

Dravid and Laxman have dug it. It could easily have been 3-4 out, but the inside edges and hits and misses did not turn into wickets and now these two look set to cash it big time

Ian Bell cheated HotSpot in the Ashes, it can definitely be done.

at the same moment when the ball crosses the bat?

pads were far apart btw

Yeah, it's all over. Not like they're 160 behind or anything. Oh wait.

it dint sound woody for sure . the sound is different when there is a nick .

it was not out .

Laxman was rooted to the spot and the bat was miles away from the pad. What was the noise?

Well, thats when the batsman does a lot of movement right?

And Snicko blocks out all noise a few seconds after or before the edge. So we always seem to think theres never a lot of noise.

So technically, its possible. Nothing rare.

If it was my wish I would have India all out at less than 80.

Just saying Laxman and Dravid are really digging in.

Hopefully I am wrong

What pissed me off about that was that the umpire gave him out initially, but Bell reviewed it because he thought (correctly) that Hotspot wouldn't pick it up. Meh. Gamesmanship...

Good leave, these two should stay at wicket for as long as possible. Not sure if others can play as good

No Swann going to hurt England a lot as the day goes on. Best chance of them competing was to get a few down in the first hour. The seamers will tire in the afternoon. God bless Hotspot.

Yep. Laxman hit the ball.

Why does it have to be bat hitting pad.

Why not one pad hitting another pad. Shoes furiously scraping the ground. Hell, maybe the batsmen groaned or something?

Also, Laxman began to shake his head when Strauss went for DRS. Why would he do it then. Does he want to look like an idiot?

Knowing Laxman, he would have definitely walked if he had edged that :13:

Of course he shook his head. He didn't want to be out. The edge, the appeal and the speed of the review were very convincing. Even Warne admitted it was out and he hates us.

Watch the incident again. The noise was blatantly an edge. Certainly not the batsman groaning!

not sure , but my first reaction was it was not out .

the umpire dint pick it , nor did the technology on offer ..i dont know why are we complaining here ?

Hard to say. But there is no evidence it was from the bat. Snicko just detects the existence of a sound, which we already knew anyways. It doesn't necessarily suggest that it was due to bat touching ball. It's hard to complain here though; the decision was reviewed, and the available technology did not support the decision of out.

I've seen Ian Bell cheat his way to a hundred in an identical situation. Nothing will convince me that Laxman missed that.

Known cheerleader comes in with moral defence. Debate over, everyone go home.

Buddy i thought you lot had your eyes set on the big thing, the #1 rank and i see you crying about a decision for 15 minutes now for which you don't even have much of a case

Not happening :asif

Like I said yesterday, India have been getting the rub of the green with the decisions and England are still ahead in the series. That incident was poor but I'm not worried yet.

Not identical. Bell was actually given out first but had the balls to review it and get away with it. I loved how aggrieved the Aussies were.

England were sort of unlucky that they have to bowl to two of the best batsmen in business with the new ball. Now they have nogotiated the new ball and this will make it easy for batsmen to come. But first England need to remove the current players at the crease.
