Hashim Amla vs Virat Kohli in ODIs

Kohli has taken consistency to the next level, Amla is past it. Will leave him for dead by the time his through.

Kohli has gone way ahead at the moment. Amla is a good player but is a level below Kohli.

I am interested in knowing what innings Amla has played under pressure. For example, team requires 100 in 70 balls and Amla contributes 60 in 40 balls.

3 years later...Overall stats

Amla

Mat 170
Runs 7804
Avg 50.3
SR 89.3
100 27

Kohli

Mat 219
Runs 10385
Avg 59.6
SR 92.7
100 39

-

And since the last stats were posted..(i.e 11th Nov 2015)

Amla 1796 @ 43.8 in 44 matches at a S/R of 89

Kohli 3556 @ 91.1 in 53 matches at a S/R of 99.6

Well no one can match that run. So instead of ridiculing the comparison let's just appreciate the kind of monster run Kohli is having.

Kohli averages 91 @ 100 in 53 matches? Insane

Hashim's issue is not that he scores too slow or he doesn't bat at a good pace. His issue is clearly the lack of switching gears.

For him, scoring a 60 of 50 balls isn't a big deal but he doesn't have in him to take a 60 of 50 to say, 110 of 70 balls, even if the conditions and situations are in favourable to him. This is not something due to he is past his peak and on last legs but it has been an issue for him for years, which is why we don't really recall any Amla hundred coming at 125+ SR.

Kohli is obviously ahead now, but one thing people fail to understand is that Kohli himself doesn't score fast hundreds when India is batting first. It's often around run a ball.

This thread should be closed, its not even a discussion anymore and will just be used to take digs at a good player like amla.

Amla is a good ODI player however Kohli has elevated his game to GOAT status. There is no comparison at all and people should refrain taking unnecessary digs at amla due to some biased posters comparing him with kohli.

Kohli was *always* ahead as a batsman. Anyone with a modicum of cricketing knowledge knew that.

kohli has a 50 ball 100.A 70 ball hundred and he is also capable of changing gears and hitting sixes which amla clearly lacks.

Kohli is ahead but for a while Amla was giving him a tough time and have beaten his record of fastest to 2k-7k runs up to now. However he seems done now and if he does beat his 8k record he need to score atleast 2 tons in 8 games to do that it will be the last time.

Amla now is definitely not the player he used to be, Coming to kohli he has just hit his peak 3 years ago and will stay at his peak until 34 so three more years.

Those are rare innings everybody knows Kohli likes to go at slower or about run a ball for over 90% of his innings. Which is very similar to Amla we all know that because we have seen him do it million times now. Every 3rd innings is a 100 for kohli these days so if you have not spotted the pattern yet you dont have to wait long to check.

He had a great peak between 2012-2014 as well and has been on a different level between 2016- present. So, it's kinda 6 years of peak already for Kohli. Only 2015 wasn't a great year for him.

He has been great through out his career but i am talking about absolute peak which he has hit last 3 years.

Hashim Amla may have better statistics but everyone know who is the better batsman. It's not just about the numbers. How many games did Amla win with his bat compared to Virat Kohli? Virat Kohli is an ATG / GOAT already. He will only get better.

Kohli was always better in LO. Not interested in stats. If you watch both players , you knew who would turn out better.

Amla has better statistics? In which world?

Just found out that Amla hasn't won ICC Test Cricketer of the year, ICC ODI Cricketer of the year, or ICC Cricketer of the year award even once in his entire career :)))

Not to compare him with Virat, but just to point the importance of Amla in ODI's in such situations.
10 overs 29/2. Faf struggling also, and Amla makes a 59 ball fifty without taking any risk.

Not many batsmen in the world are capable of doing such things.

A quality 50, but great players have played such knocks regularly in their careers.

Amla has the chance to make up for his selfish match losing ton in the first match by scoring a brilliant one today. The stage is set.

So true! Amla is very underrated and is probably the best crisis man in word cricket.

Gone for 59 off 75 balls, strike rate of 78.66

If this looks like a good innings from an opener in today's era then God bless you.

To be fair to Amla, the team was under pressure with 2 quick wickets down. Even Faf played with an SR of 75.

Amla doesn't have additional gears like ABDV or Kohli , but he can play the anchoring role well.

Amla's odi career is coming to a disappointing end - he looks all over the place these days and is batting with no confidence at all.

Kohli is SRT, Ponting and Lara class.

Amla is Clarke, Yousuf, Inzi, VVS level.

No comparison, 2 tiers below Kohli.
