well about pigging time. 150+ runs for last three wickets. rubbish.

Barbie was probably our best bowler last year, had a good World Cup and 25 wickets v India. Looks to have started off by far the best here.

a few overs for the ICC combined XI to play out. hopefully we take a few wickets against the dastardly multiethnic goons.

so did Swann or Barbie take the last wicket? nobody knows...

Broad took the last wicket, where have you got Swann took it from? Barbie took 4. 3 of the top order and then the last important wicket of the near approaching 100 Namibian!

crapinfo said Swann took it, and then deleted the text and changed it to Barbie. lol.

England will start their innings soon. Tricky little period facing Hamid Hassan and probably Boyd Rankin.

very good, except Swann (again)

should be able to win if they bat four sessions.

Swann bowled a no ball, as a spinner that is poor. Haven't seen him do that often. Poor

0.5 Hamid Hassan to AN Cook, 2 runs. Overpitched, played firmly to deep midwicket.
0.4 Hamid Hassan to AN Cook, no run. Another defensive prod.
0.3 Hamid Hassan to AN Cook, no run. Comes forward, pushing to point.
0.2 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, 1 run. Tucked out behind square.
0.1 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, no run. Good line first up - Strauss forward defensively.

first Swann no ball ever? he's losing it

Could be a dodgy umpire, though? Remember :asadrauf no-balling Chris Tremlett at Lord's? There were more than a dozen calls in one innings and most of them were correct, but I spotted at least three incorrect calls. :amir

ETA: also, having not seen the actual game live, I can't say whether that no ball was a front foot fault or not. It could have been called for other reasons e.g. back foot fault, beamer.

2.6 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, no run. And Strauss leaves another good-length delivery outside off stump.
2.5 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, no run. This one's down the leg side, no shot again.
2.4 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, no run. No shot outside off stump.
2.3 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, no run. A little shorter, played firmly to mid-on.
2.2 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, no run. Defends to mid-on.
2.1 Hamid Hassan to AJ Strauss, no run. Good line outside off stump, no shot from Strauss.

Decent performance by ICC XI thanks to their tail. The guy who got 98, his highest first class score was in the 70s before this :)))

Interesting to see how England go.

england need to learn to mop up the tail. i can see rehman and ajmal troubling the english bowlers andfrustrating them as tail enders

Really hoping Ajmal gets at least one good innings (30+), just so we can hear this again:

England will be happy that their bowlers got longish spells rather than bowling the side out for a 100.

Swann got a good 20 odd overs in.

Having said that though, clealry rusty from some of the English boys.

Also goes to show, UAE conditions won't offer much once the ball becomes old, especially for the quickies. Two spinners is a must to be honest.

Well played, I think we must especially mention Shehzad and Viljon - Great knocks to put your team back. Rankin played well as well. 281 is not a bad score especially when top 4 does nothing.

Also Shehzad I checked why he has such big average, he is a top order batsmen, why was he send down the order? Not good Captaincy by the captain.

If nothing else, I am very pleased with the seamers. Decent figures, Anderson keeping things at a 2.5 econ on a flat pitch while Swann at the other end is getting slogged is good. Broads been good as expected, and Finn has been meh, though on the less economical side as expected. Once Swann gets into a rhythm, we should be fine.

England does have a penchant for letting tails make a bit, saw that against India at times, and Australia definitely in both Ashes. If we do mop them up quickly its because of Swann, so he needs to get some more bowling in.

"England are using the match as preparation for their upcoming Test series against Pakistan in the UAE. Viljoen said the English bowlers got some reverse-swing on the first day, which could help them in their series against Pakistan.

"Towards the middle of the day the ball started reversing a bit, which made it a bit difficult. It's England's first warm-up game and with them already getting some reverse, I think if they just keep working on their reverse then they will pick up wickets with the older ball."

That's reassuring. And a good knock by him too!

Hamid Hassan running through the South Africans! No English batsmen out yet.

If he gets KP, then we'd be into Bell. And then we'll have to see after if Prior and Morgan are susceptible. Thank god out lower order are all English though, extra security against Hamid's anti SA abilities.

Not a very good start from the Poms today. The Afghanistani bowler Hamid Hassan has picked up 2 top order wickets - 2/65

Kind of expect it from Strauss. Trott not so much. Strauss has turned into Brearley more or less. A little bit less captaincy, and a couple more runs on the average.

Hassan has bowled 9 over on the trot according to someone watching.

First he must have good stamina, better then any Indian bowler, second give him a break if you don't want to injure him.

So.. England visa? Perhaps have him toil in Division 1 CC for a couple years, have him qualify?

He apparently already played club cricket in Lancashire. Yay Lancs! I like him more now for that.

wasn't this meant to be streamed live?

it is but its for $10. google it you can find the link on irish cricket website and some others, its some wierd site something like quipu .com or something. no free streaming as far as i know.

why is finn playing? Surely they should pick Tremlett over Finn for the Pakistan tests. And tremlett needs the practise after a long time off. Or perhaps Panesar to see whether it might be a good idea to go with two spinners.

Tremlett's length is poor for Asian conditions and he doesn't have the pace of Finn, Chris unfortunately will struggle to hold down a consistent spot in this team if everyone remains fit.

pretty good from England so far, as expected.

hasn't played an innings in months as far as I know, feet on the ground ladies

Will be interesting to see the speed Finn bowls at, if he gets picked in the final 11 for tests. Last time he played test cricket in the Ashes, he wasn't a 90 mph+ bowler. But has added at least 5 miles to his speed ever since and bowled with a lot of pace in the ODIs.

Haha I wasn't getting excited or anything. Just found that strike rate surprising from a player like KP. But I do hope he stays out of touch. :farhat

And he departs as well..

Lols if you are creating so much fuss on Swann's no-ball, I think you'll write a book if Abdul Wahab Riaz bowls one.

Mohammad shehzad and hamid hassan playing well against england is good sign for Afghanistan. They are making afghans proud. Hope they continue to do well.

Cook is sick, another ton on the cards.

Is this a first-class game?

Hamid Hassan got a nasty injury. Fell on the sightscreen rail, injured his elbows and knees as per updates on Twitter. :(
