10.4
Anderson to Coetzer, no run
10.5
Anderson to Coetzer, no run, Coetzer plays in the english domestic for Northants, not the first time he will be facing these english bowlers.
10.6
Anderson to Coetzer, no run

16/3

Seems like they have settled now. The new ball has lost some of it's shine and things are easing up. A lead of 250+ will challenge England.

The performance of the Associate XI against the top associate team proves that Associates have it in them. It is time to give them more chances and Multi Tier Test System is the answer

Good first over fron Finn, fast bowling on the off-stump. He is massive!

I wish! The weather would be better than it is in England. Watching via the internet

This underlines how important the new ball is in the UAE. Both sides will have to use it well in the test series to take the twenty wickets.

what I like about Finn these days is he almost always makes the batsman play. No wonder he always contributes and take wickets despite the slightly higher economy rate.

Williams c Bell b Swann at short cover

31/4

Good contest between the wily Swann and the attacking Shahzad, who'll crack first?

Finn bowling quick and at the stumps, 2 consecutive maidens :) much improved from this time last year.

jealous of you lads having a standard Saturday night, had to keep my head down this weekend, got deadlines.

Hm, i wonder if Monty will get a game in the second warm-up? He was moaning on twitter about not being picked for this game.

Davies out Prior in, this is the team they will use in the first test IMO.

You don't think Tremlett will get a go then? I think he'd struggle on these slow decks.

Tremlett's length will work outside Asia but is too short for flatter and lower decks, he will sit up to be hit.

150 lead for 4 with a day to go, good game, either side can win

25.4
Anderson to Coetzer, FOUR, good length delivery, hit back straight to the bowler, over throw past the keeper

Asif? against england 2010?

good to see englands batsmen in form and batting well in 1st inns :) earlier today.

Coetzer 31 b Anderson, played on to a ball short of a length

2 each for Broad and Anderson, 1 for Swann

71/5, cmon England!

So he will be like harmison was on last tour to pakistan cannon fodder!

Harmison has pretty good figures for that series.

I don't think Tremlett will play.

Ok, I've just seen the scorecard for the first time today, can someone please explain what happened to English batting?

Really good associate bowling, consistent in the right areas and the England batsmen couldn't take the pressure. Probably a bit of rustiness more than anything

Oh OK. Long may the rustiness continue!

This is a great start to the tour, for Pak! :)

Nice tactics might I add from Strauss to declare 8 wickets down and avoid being bowled out for under 200 against an associates XI! :))

England's players haven't batted in four months as far as I know, quite a while.

The bowlers look superb for the break I must say, fresh and full of life, particularly Broad. They still need to work on their tactics against the lower order though.

If the associates can somehow get the lead to 300 this game will become very interesting indeed. I don't think they will get many more though to be honest.

Stumps, bit of a disappointing day to be honest, especially for our batsmen, need a better effort in the second innings.

ICC Comb XI should fancy their chances, Rankin is a fine bowler, pity the Afghan is injured for them.

How long before England offer Mohammad Shahzad a contract?

I kid, I kid..

Actually stumps so even a lead of 230 might get interesting if England decide to chase, either way the associates should be proud of themselves they have have a good account of themselves here.

Nah looks like a draw most likely unless something dramatic happens in first session tomorrow.

Bell was saying we will try to win even the warm up games. but very disappointing stuff from England really. :O

^ they still can win if they get them out for another 50 runs but even if they do not the most convincing performance but than again it's a warm up for a reason.

LOL, so much fuss and attention for a warm up game...
Eng is probably playing at 10 percent while the other guys see this as the biggest game in their life. We as pak supporters should stay calm till the series starts en then when we beat them we can have a go at them....

Excuses coming out already! ;)

Last English winter, when England started out their ashes campaign they were on the ball straighaway and clinical in their warm-ups, lets just hope their warm-up performances still match their overall tour patterns

hamid hassan injured :(

eff sake

afghanistan need him in their bid to qualify for the world cup

I heard its not serius injury so hopefully he will be back soon inshallah.

just he has so many injuries that it may affect his bowling speed

even in this match he caused them serious trouble
11 overs 2 wickets 23 runs given

shahdzad, nabi and hasan have not disgraced afghanistan

and viljoen has made namibia proud

England batting was actually a mixed bag in the first two warm-up games in Aussie - it was only the bowlers who were on the money straight away, with the team as a whole gradually coming into form. So like you said, let's hope this is a pattern :)

thanks to whippy and others for the rolling commentary. :19:

England bowlers are facing a weak batting line up but it's still a good workout for them.

While Alistar Cookes form is looking ominious again. :(

Dissapointed with the batsmen. Bell needs to stop being so whimsical with his batting. Still, bowlers are doing well, and that was my main worry. Batting is easy, they'll adapt before the first match. Bowling is the one that requires effort. England had 223 for 8d in the first tour match of the Ashes, nothing beautiful. But they went on to bat better the second innings.

I wish there was another tour match after the Pakistan XI one. Three's a good number.

Considering that this is being played on a neutral venue, should England really be getting any practice matches? Pakistan certainly isn't. Yes I know Pakistan have played here. Irrelevant, at the end of the day it's still a neutral venue.

The general feeling is that this neutral venue is the home of Pakistan Cricket for now. Therefore, as visitors to your home, we need tour matches. It would be terribly unfair otherwise as we would have no knowledge of how these pitches play out.

It's the temporary home of Pakistan cricket only as far as thoughts and feelings are concerned. Officially, it's still a neutral venue.

I actually don't see why it's unfair given that it's a neutral venue. I don't remember SA or SL getting practice games in their respective tours.

You're still hosting right? I might be wrong, but aren't you getting the benefits of the home situation in regards to broadcasting fees, gate receipts, etc.? If so, the visiting side has a right to ask for tour matches, and it is expected that the hosting side provides them. That's basic etiquette in cricket. Its the prerogative of the visiting side to ask for them. If SA and SL didn't want them, its their choice.

Basically now your trying all the underhanded ways you can so that Pakistan can get any sort of advantage right?

No, its not a neutral ground? The Pakistani's have played here as their home for three years. SA and SL did actually, just against themselves.

It's only fair visiting teams are allowed warm up games. It really helped Pakistan in the past when touring England. We managed to beat England in 87,92 and 96 in style because our batters had little issues against the moving ball after some practice.

Very good answer.

The ECB excelled themselves with the itinerary for this tour, shrewd stuff indeed. They've learnt from their mistakes in the past with regards to woefully inadequate preparation, particularly in Asia. Just another thing we can put down to The Flower Effect ;-)

Correct, we're getting all those benefits, but at the end of the day, it's still a neutral venue. What it should really come down to is whether the venue is neutral or not. If it is, then I don't see why anyone should be getting practice matches. And if they do, then so should the other side.

I am not sure how that relates to logic as to why England should be getting any pratice matches.

We've actually just played 2 test series here - against SA and SL. As far as teams playing among themselves, well England can very much do that. I wouldn't care if they did. But they shouldn't be getting official practice matches.

The venue is neutral, but the series is for all purposes hosted by one team. The hosts have to allot for practice matches for their visitors. The venue's neutrality is irrelevant. Hosts need to look after their visitors, and meet their (sensible) requests.

Say I am vacationing in Florida in a rented villa, or perhaps a time share that I don't completely own, but get partial benefits for. I invite you to come join me in my villa. Wouldn't you expect me to treat you like a guest?

And Pakistan, if they wanted to, could have set up practice matches, or tour matches. That is completely allowed, the PCB simply decided not to.
