What's new

India [252] defeat New Zealand [217] by 35 runs to win the 5th ODI and win series 4-1

Rohit and DHoni out to good bowling, Gill and Dhawan to bad shot selection.. But you could argue that it was the tight bowling which forced them to select those shots

NZ has figured out Dhawan is susceptible to the short ball.

Everyone knows Dhawan is susceptible to short ball as he goes for the upper cut. He got out in that fashion many times before.

This is not news. But Dhawan still manages to score runs in spite of many chunks in his armor. He is a class LOI batsman.

Well we picked up on that now and it's a plan the team is using against him.

Rohit doesn't mind 3(30). He can make it up. He knows. Same way Gill wasn't actually stuck or anything. He just wanted to feel every single ball which proved to be fatal. Hope he tries to see off some balls.

2(22) Rayudu what a pathetic batsman. Hope he makes up for it later.

Rayadu has been around for a while. He is a minnow badger and disappears when the top order fails. He is there solely because the likes of Pandey have blew their opportunities.

May be, it would be Shaw's first ODI and he's still a teenager. There's a difference between that and a 35 y/o has been.

Indians have so many other batsmen that should be ahead of Rayudu IMO.

Raina and Pandey are 2 names that come to mind.

I saw someone's post regarding strong prospects who were expected to be set batsmen for middle order right about now, but almost all of them (Pandey, KL Rahul?, and more) blew their chances, so India fell back to hacks like Rayudu.

Raina would be a WAY better option than Rayudu. He's trustworthy on the field, and can give you a 30 at a very good RR.

Rishab Pant was shockingly dropped but Karthik was backed.

Raina’s only issue is the short ball, he may have struggled on this tour but i’d be tempted to take him to the WC.

I have a feeling Pant will be in for the next ODI series. atleast in the 16. But the selectors like Kartik for some reason, who is still running on the back of the Nidahas final fluke

"where my next run will come" is the middle name of AMbati Rayudu lol. I am glad Dhoni's aukat was shown today. How exactly this guy is better than Rishab Pant.

Vijay shankar right infront of everyone's eyes is proving he is better than Rayudu. He is not even considered as a batsman by us lol

Rayudu has hit the ball to the same fielder so many times, I am sure the other 9 must be yawning

Neesham is clocking 135 kph. But he just strolls to the crease. He is way quicker than Grandhomme for sure.

Vijay looks more secure than these two. His only problem may be accelerating. But he has no trouble rotating the strike so far.

But our management will play Shankar as an all-rounder when his bowling is pedestrian. He needs to make it just as a batsman imo. Can't believe we have the same problems that we had two years ago as well. A good top 3 , a good bunch of bowlers but between 4-7 , we don't have the players or the combination to make us a strong, consistent team. Only jadhav has somewhat been a useful addition but even he is, I fear, injury prone. Im amazed how we managed to win so many games with so many shortcomings.

If Kane was serious about this, he would have brought on the spinners.

Neesham, CdG and Munro are not wicket taking options, they're there to tick things over.

It's clear NZ is looking at fine tuning and other stuff... no point wasting energy on this pathetic line up

Kane isn't interested in rolling over India :))

He wants to test the players who aren't secured and see what they can offer with the ball.

Why would he give 7 overs on the trot to Boult if he is not serious lol He is . Just that your bowlers are pathetic other than Boult. Henry is just okay.

A couple of Boult's overs and India will be 8 down lol..

So basically he was interested in bowling them out only in 4th ODI which was also a dead rubber.

He let them go on with it because they were going well, if he wanted to finish it he would have brought on Santner and Astle. Both are more likely to take wickets than Neesham, CdG and Munro but their positions are not secure so they want to see what they can offer in this position (bowling after the first choice options).

Rayudu is only good against spin lol Please bring them on.

Considering the last two times we met, your bowlers might reach the middle order after two matches against us if they are lucky, so we're good. :srini

Will a 50 here from Rayudu guarantee a starting spot for the WC?

Rayudu is at ease against spinners. But please tell us more about what Kane is thinking.

Really not sure why you're so concerned about India's middle order. It's not like NZ are going to make the semis to be able to exploit it.
