At the end of Day 1, Ashwin doesn't appear to be pleased about something. He's in conversation with umpire Erasmus as the players walk off.

Nonetheless, it has been a captivating first day here at Vizag. England took three wickets in that final session, leaving honors even on a pitch that hasn't offered much turn so far. All their bowlers performed well, with James Anderson showing great control in all his spells, and the three spinners displaying accuracy.

The standout performer of the day was Yashasvi Jaiswal, cruising to an unbeaten 179 at a good pace, demonstrating a fine balance between defense and attack. He was the only Indian batter to make a significant score. While many got starts, the next highest score after Jaiswal was just 34 from Shubman Gill. This will be a source of disappointment for the hosts who could have capitalized on winning the toss.

However, England kept chipping away. Anderson got one, Hartley got one, and debutant Bashir and Rehan picked up two wickets each. So, once again, it's set up to be an enthralling Test match.

England will bury India in this Test with a massive lead in the first innings. Tail won't last long

India need Rishabh Pant back at 6.

A wicket keeper who was genuine match winner with bat and could bat at 6 and intimidate opposition with his ability to change the game in any situation. He would probably lose his two years of peak but hopefully he will be back soon and back to what he was doing best.

The team will become good once that happens. Kohli at 4 has found form in past year or so, KL at 5 although inconsistent but can score in any condition, Pant at 6 and Jadeja 7, all very good players in all conditions.

Jaiswal and Ashwin need to bat first hour well and take the score to 400 otherwise it's 2-0 written at the end of this match.

England took two late wickets to end the day on a high. Bashir removed Axar Patel (27) and Rehan Ahmed dismissed Bharat (17).

Ben Stokes' side will have their eyes on removing India's opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who will resume on 179 early on.

Ind is a better team without klrahul and even jadeja. Time to move on. Also ksbharat is a useless wicket keeper. He should be nowhere near the ind team... 400 plus here is a very good total. Plus ind has Kuldeep now. So more potency in the bowling attack

WICKET! Ashwin c Foakes b Anderson 16 - India 360-7

HE GOT HIM FINALLY!

It's a beautiful delivery from Anderson. It's another wobble seam delivery, he's persisted with it for so long and he finally has his man.

Commendable innings really👏. Holding his own with wickets falling at regular intervals. Special young kid 😎

All from Mumbai isn't it. Appetite for big runs stands out

Took him just 10 innings to score a double century. absolutely fantastic.

Anderson is indeed a bowling legend for the ages.

England can keep India below 400. Take the ball out of Bashir's hands.

Jimmy bowled way outside off, Jaiswal left it. Jimmy asked him to hit and Jaiswal just smiled.

Jimmy bowled same line again, Jaiswal went this time trying to hit a six over cover, caught in the deep.

WICKET! Jaiswal c Bairstow b Anderson 209 - India 383-8

Anderson has his man!

Jaiswal just couldn't resist going for a big heave. He was looking to clear the fielders, most of whom are all on the boundary rope. He top edges it to deep cover with Bairstow running in and taking the huge wicket. He wasn't going to let that one fall.

All the England players come to congratulate Jaiswal on his magnificent contribution for India.

He gets a remarkable reception as he walks off from the Barmy Army fans.

Anderson showing us the vast difference between him and Wood in bowling.

Loads of experience. Made his international debut almost the same time when Yashswi was born

Never seen such an insipid batting by India at home. This is such a below average attack. Most domestic teams would thrash this. Still huffing and puffing to get to 400 despite a double 100.

WICKET! Bumrah c Root b Rehan Ahmed 6 - India 395-9

Bumrah comes forward to defend Rehan but catches the edge and it flies to Root at slip. Easy as you like.

India are nine down.

WICKET! Kumar c Root b Bashir 0

India 396 all out. India will think that they are almost 34-40 runs short here. This is a pretty good wrap up from the English bowlers today.

Indian batting has been really poor.

India had an advantage wen they won the toss because 450 was there for taken. With 396, they have opened the game for England.

Handsdown this is the worst display i have seen. These are good batting wickets. England will show it for sure. Transition is going to be a nightmare for India with few new players are not taking responsibility.

India definitely 50 runs short. Would have killed some time too on this pitch which could be crucial. Second and third day I expect this pitch to play well and if English batsmen hit their straps India will be in trouble.

There was a time Indian batsmen used to post BIG scores of 500+ 600+ runs. Nowaday rarely see them get to 400 (Of course I dont follow every test)

Lol, England who have an out and out pace based attack but are still playing just 1 seamer and we, who are known for its spin prowess especially at home, are playing 2 seamers.

Wah Dravid wah!

Think 3 spinners are more than enough on any pitch.

And that's when you have Sundar in the squad who will give you a lot more runs and extra spin bowling options.

When will we get rid of this Dravid?

We have become so mediocre as a cricketing nation despite all the resources at our disposal. That's because of the cricket leadership which is so corrupt and incompetent. Same reflects in the way we play our cricket too.

On the other hand we should credit for selecting Jaiswal in the Test squad too :genius

England can open the bowling with Root in both the tests but we can't do that despite having such renowned spinners in our ranks.

Well done Rohit. You have shown in ample measure why India won't win anything till the time you are leading India.

England is 32/0 till lunch now. They would love the 1st session proceedings. Topled India out for nothing this morning and now scoring at a rate of 5 an over. Good stuff.

Is Shami injured?

England will absolutely annihilate every medium paced seamer.

I feel sorry for teams that will tour England bringing their medium paced swing bowlers thinking they will be effective

Surely playing on your birthday brings some kind of good luck?!

Well, lets hope that's the case for England's opener Zak Crawley. He turns 26 today and I wonder what he's having for lunch... cake maybe?

63 overs left for the day , ENG could likely be 300+ today & 400 Lunch day 3 - anyone fancies a draw here ?

Former England player Steven Finn said:

"The spin is going to play a part but we saw enough seam movement to know that will also play a part.

"Bumrah can learn a lot from how Anderson bowled during England's innings.

"Playing with the stumps in play is important and as the game goes on it will be the balls that are bouncing on the seam that will be difficult to sweep because they don't know how the ball going to bounce."

There was a chance there for Shubman Gill at short mid-wicket who was flying through the air and got one hand to the ball, but he fails to keep hold of it.

Ashwin looks frustrated!

WICKET! Duckett c Patidar b Kuldeep 21 - England 59-1

Kuldeep Yarav makes the breakthrough!

It's no surprise to see Bumrah replaced after that boundary burst in his last over, with Kuldeep taking just two deliveries to find a much-needed wicket!

Duckett clips it around the corner and finds the man at silly point. He looks annoyed at himself!

How pathetic is bharat .missed a stumping chance. Laut aao rishabh pant .

Pope got lifeline on first ball.
Bharat missed an easy stumping, couldn't collect the ball.

Annoyed he should be. Gave too much respect to a nothing ball. Why do that when all you do in nets is smack deliveries like that
