What's new

India v Australia | 1st Test | Pune | Feb 23-27, 2017 | Day 1

But, it's uneven bounce in 1st hour of 30. If it remains same, there should be lots of quick runs, but I think it's an uneven sharp tuner.
It's slow probably that's why, but even in the England series the pitches were looking worse than the way they played.

350 runs from Aus here may even win them this test. Huge advantage to bat first. Pitch is pathetic to be honest. Uneven bounce so early.

I am impressed with the Aussies application.

They don't care about getting beaten. They are playing in line and letting the spinning ones pass the bat.

Sridharan has worked a lot on them.

Dunno why posters are getting tensed up already. In this pitch, this will happen. The turn and bounce in a way saves bats cos its exaggerated.

Got to be consistent and when wickets fall, they will fall in clusters.

The pitch will suit Nathan Lyon and other Australian spinners. Not easy for Indians to score here later.

One quality individual performance from bat could well turn the game to Australian favour in this test.

1 bad ball per over by Jayant. Warner will be very happy to face this guy instead of Ash and Jaddu who are very accurate.

Disgraceful pitch. We r better than this. I m pretty sure current Indian team is strong enough to thrash these aussies on phattas as well.

ICC should ban countries from dishing out these doctored pitches to the touring teams.

Already 10% done :yk

1st hour negotiated without any damage. As always we show jitters in the first session of a new test series with no balls and dropped chances

Hopefully we get them 2 down by lunch.

I am sure AUS opening pair will bowl much better on this surface than the Poms while ENG came without any spinner, therefore wickets always looked flatter than what it was. Same wicket, set 300 with Bhai, Bahi & Bhai to defend on 4th innings, they'll struggle.

Savage post :))) Unfortunately I don't see englands spin stocks improving anytime soon especially if they have the mentality of Junaids when it comes to spinners.

Excellent batting by the Australian openers. I m sensing that my fellow Indians r getting tensed. :yk

Kohli showing he has much to learn Jadeja the better inform bowler (even better than Ashwin in the recent past) & not bowled in the first hour. Big mistake, could be huge.

Renshaw is picking up the length well. Haven't been beaten for flight even once so far.

Too many fielders in the deep for Warner. Ball spinning into him, it's an easy 1

Actually lefti pair is batting. Also, Ash gets some drift with new ball, while Jad is hardcore finger darter, needs a bit roughed up ball to grip. More that bowling, I think the pair has batted well.

Shows that he hasnt settled in rhythm here, and is getting desperate. Should concentrate on flight and bowling in the same area consistently, instead of even thinking about carrom balls, this isnt a limited over cricket.

Nah...you are getting carried away by cliches mate.

They say a spinner should flight the ball to take wickets. Lyon flighted it beautifully in Chennai 2013 and Dhoni kept smashing him for sixes cos he was a bit too full.

They say captain should be attacking. We messed up Sabina Park cos Kohli attacked too much for too long even when we were leaking runs. Bowlers screwed up too.

Its all about situation. Not rules per se.

Ashwin bowled 58 out of 60 balls normally. If he gets that one carrom to turn back in, it would cause doubts in the batsmen's minds which would make his offies more lethal. The same strategy gets used by spinners overseas in a different way. You manage to spin one ball and you can sow doubts in batsmen's minds and get a wicket from the non spinning ones too.

Aus batting looks weak

They playing both marshes too...

Good thing the openers have made a solid start

250 will be more than enough on this wicket. Even a score around 200 will give Indian batters nightmares.

I would have taken a bet at any stake - Aussies won't play Maxwell ahead of Lyon for his worth of 35 slogs. If the series is continued on such wickets, may be then they'll play Maxi (because a quick fire 35 can be match changer here), but not at the cost of Lyon.

Agree to disagree here. Thats how it started going wrong for Ash against Eng in 2012.

I guess, this is a duel purpose stadium & groundsmen has got few weeks in between football season to prepare this wicket.

Jaddu and ash getting thrashed around all over the park, lol. Welcome to the real world kohli.

This is world champion Australia u r playing against. I'm sensing a innings Victory for the Aussies here.

What happened to the its all gloom and doom pitch predictions?

Told you from ball 1, this is a pitch which will turn and still be high scoring.

Batsmen who apply will score runs in first innings. 2nd innings may be too hard.

They are not poking at all. Bat stays still. Even if ball rips, it simply misses the bat.
Good batting

One thing to like about these openers is that not a single bad ball has been let go off. They have taken the maximum toll on bad balls

This pitch is spin version of WACA.

Everyone will get carried away looking at it when in reality, you need to really bowl well to get wickets or you will go for runs. :P

Same happened in Chennai 2013 and Mumbai 2016.

Terrific batting by the Aussies. If the Aussies make 450 here, India will be in big trouble.

The kind of pitch where wickets will fall in a heap. Just need to be patient.

Wow, Yatoo bro. Finally Indian flag. Looks like you have seen the light. :baelish

Indian flag for 2 years now. Had requested mods to have a Kashmiri flag (Kashmir does have a flag) but they haven't done that yet. Putting a different nations flag confuses the posters.

I guess Kohli over did the Jayant Act. Gave time to openers to settle down

:OUT

Umesh YOU BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

This is King Kohli effect.

Backed him when everyone had written him off.

Gotta control runs in this pitch bro.

It's about mind games too. Kohli is telling Warner he's afraid. At least make the batsman earn those fielders in the deep. All of warners boundaries have come on the leg side except a bad ball which he cut I think. If he starts lofting then down the ground then put those fielders there. One boundary won't make a difference

LastManstanding your man Yadav did it :smith

After all the hype, I was surprised to see this. But the crowd has increased in the last 30 min or so. Also, Indian batting will probably attract a lot more crowd.

Problem is that these stadiums are outside the city, so commute seems big hassle for fans. Wankhade would have attracted much better crowd.
