India v England, 1st Test, Nagpur, 1st day

With all the fuss over injuries its the replacements who have done the job since Collingwood and Cook were the ones who were to miss out.

It's the likes of Strauss and Flintoff and to a lesser extent Pietersen who haven't delivered in the subcontinent - and they are the problem at the moment.

I am hoping for a Pietersen special soon..
Im pretty sure that Blackwell will bowl better than Giles too

After all the trials and tribulations that England have come through on the tour so far, the first day of the first test has been a tough experience for the injury-hit team.

Apart from Cook and Collingwood, the batsmen have not been able to settle down. Flintoff promised much, but lost his wicket at a crucial time in the day. England will need a big bowling effort now to try and stay in the game. They will probably be all out for 270/280 in the morning. India should be able to get ahead of that quite easily with their batting strength.

It will be interesting to see how the two England spinners making their debut cope with the pressure, especially Panesar who has been built up so much in the last few weeks. Some interesting cricket to look forward to in the next few days.

so England getting all out 2morrow around 280. and then India piling up more than 400.

Flintoff isn't to blame, he is an all-rounder, not a specialist batsman. A quick 40 would normally be more than enough of a contribution if the top order had produced a proper platform. Strauss, Bell and Pietersen were todays big disapointments, but nice stuff from Cook and Colly (ironically the 2 players that got into the side because of injury) :12:

Anyway Flintoff was well set and given out wrongly, he was playing superbly. He should consider himself unlucky he didnt go well past 50.

246-7 shouldnt be condemned just yet, I know all the 'experts' said it was a 400 pitch but you have to wait til both teams have batted before you truly know the par score of the pitch.

All-rounder or not, Flintoff bats at 6 - a crucial spot and as far as the team is concerned consistent contributions from the number 6 are vital.

He certainly hasn't been consistent enough in the recent past and until he is, England will continue to suffer.

.

Ok, if that's the case, then the Flintoff justificaton makes sense.

Ball from Kumble that was blatantly drifting past leg

I know Flintoff bats in a pivotal position and he isnt very consistent and all, but who would you have there that is better? On his day he will single-handedly rescue an innings and/or take the game away from an opponent, like Gilchrist or Afridi. He was short of runs coming into this match, for him to get what he did was a bit of a bonus really...

hopefully in the second innings so that i can watch on the weekend!

Trust Marooned - he knows a thing or 2 about cricket... infact he knows 3 things about cricket :)

Well i would not call it a disaster.....yet. I think that we weren't positive enough when playing the spinners. We made a brilliant start against the pacemen and as soon as Bhajji came on we were on the back foot. strauss played 1 aggressive slog sweep but that was it. We were tentative and it'd slowered our momentum. Hopefully Paul can put up a spirited effort with the tail tomorrow to push us up to about 300. Our bowlers are the key though tomorrow. We need some early wickets to give ourselves a chance.

Colly played superbly today, has come of age as a test batsmen.

India well on top in this match. When you look at englands batting you ask yourself question whose gona go out and score a big hundred for the team. Whose going to consistantly dominate the indian bowlers?

i cant see any england batsmen who stands out.

Without tresco and vaughan englands batting is light weight. scored of 270-300 in these conditions are paltry!

India have ways and means of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory....I say, lets wait for the 2nd day to end before making predictions.

The result of the game is of interest to me - but personally, I much prefer listening to BBC TMS for non-Pak games.

go and ask Liz if she has any room for you at Buck Palace or Windsor. I'm sure if you are polite she'll let you in and watch.

RH. Liz says:-

"One is supporting England. One hopes that one does not have to ask for one's OBE/MBE medals back after the tour to one's British Raj is conclued."

Just seen the wkts on Sky News - firstly, fantastic picture quality - take note ARY!!!

Secondly - Eng will be kicking themselves! Some poor shot selection gifted Ind wkts.

That Sreesanth looking a very good prospect.

England missed a good opportunity today..batting first on a flat track like this one ,if u cant manage to get even 400 its criminal....if england don get early wikts today, match is goin to be one sided..!
