What's new

India v England | India win 4th Test against England by an innings and 36 runs in Mumbai

yeah, and it's surprising considering even Anderson didn't get any swing

Would be stupid if we dont play him England, SA, NZ. We should observe his development with the old ball in the meantime, and play him in aus as well, if needed.

39 overs left today, I can see England finishing the day 5 or 6 down.

haven't seen much of ansari, but he didn't look as accurate as jadeja. you are underrating jadeja's accuracy

You have to read my post from 2 ends - I have problems with my "English" :(

Because Ansari wasn't there - he is more talented than Jaddu.

Not a chance. Jadeja is accurate at McGrath levels.

I guess the pitch did deteriorate this morning, but Rashid and Moeen were too tired to make much use of it today. Indians clearly showing that the pitch has enough for spinners.

Blimey.

Well, the chickens have come home to roost. English spin is in its worst state ever, and it is the fault of the ECB. Eighteen first class Counties, four hundred professional cricketers and no test-class spinner among them.

They have South Africa for the batsmen. Might need to look at Pakistan for the spinners.

Then why play spinners at all? They need to select an all seam attack with Root as the 6th bowler.

But, they are modern cricketer - can average 35 with bat. If you can't bat as a spinner, for 4 days of a Test match you are wastage of a spot.

On a serious note - that's the only future of cricket. 1.7bn people (& growing faster than anywhere barring Africa :() - mad for one sports (which is dying every elsewhere) & absolute garbage in any other global sports. Eventually, you'll see many Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi & Srilankan playing for other teams.

Someone needs to have a word with Kohli too about reviews. He gets too excited when Ashwin is bowling.

Moeen has taken my words to his heart - he has decided to become specialist spinner. But, I never taunted him - always a team can have one spinner who can average 35 (IND has one, once averaging over 100). With 8 extended overs, we have 41 overs left after this one - & 7 wickets to go ... which one is going to be earlier?

India should wrap it up in the last session, think England will collapse.

Junaids logic at its finest :))

That's the general thought of English cricket - it's not Junaids only, I have read recent English writers, who has very little clue of spin bowling. Climate doesn't help developing wrist spinners in UK, but even 25 years back ENG had few very good finger spinners.

And, I can see that in English coaching system as well - Swan was delayed at least 3/4 years because Gyles could bat a bit. Woolmer gradually dropped both Saqui & Kaneria for Malik, Afridi & MoHa in PAK ODI team (And Ajmal was officially 27 when Malik/MoHa was PAK's primer spinner in Woolmer era.

NZ had somewhat of an excuse for the massive defeats after losing all the tosses, what exactly is England's for the pathetic display they've put up this series?

Pakistani - quite likely
Sri Lankan - possibly
Bangladeshi - unlikely
Indian - extremely unlikely

An Indian, even if he doesnt make it to the Indian team can make a lot of money by playing Ranji and IPL. even average Indians get more money in the IPL than a more talented foreign player because of the team composition. Thanks to a rich BCCI, Ranji cricketers make decent amount of money nowadays. They are treated as thorough professionals like county championship.

Bangladesh has a growing economy and cricketers can make good cash with BPL and normal system. They also get good recognition like their Indian counterparts.

Sri Lankan will struggle due to their small population.

Pakistan, thanks to the incompetence of the PCB and due to no cricket at home will struggle. They have always depended upon county cricket to produce finished cricketers. Thanks to the kolpak rule and Saffa cricketers have enough good cricketers coming in to take many foreign players from Pakistan. ECB would prefer those players to play county who aim to play for England one day.

I guess this line of thinking works fine for most matches being played in England where spinners usually are not effective and they need to contribute with the bat as well but falls apart the moment they tour Asia/West Indies where you need spinners who can actually take wickets.

India will have three or four major sports in a generation. Cricket will just be the American football equivalent with the most money and biggest crowds.

You are on fire

Actually, I could see the flaws of that strategy - it's not only about spinners. Same goes for the idea of playing 2/3 "All-rounders", bowling at 120KM in Pink Ball game, because they can contribute with bat. There are few specific conditions where, combination can work - but making that a general strategy is suicidal. Even, IND is getting away with playing Yadav as 3rd spinner, because it's ENG & next 2 teams are AUS & BD - but this will backfire against PAK (if there is ever any series) - I'll always play Mishra (Or a specialist leggi) on wickets where spinners can run through a line-up. Taking 3 wickets of top order is like scoring a hundred in Test match.

It is on youtube. Search ind vs eng and filter results by upload date as today. Some decent analysis there.

Esp "The Verdict". Rob Key just rocks as a pundit. Today's episode is all about "King Kohli".

Thanks....will do.

Actually I had watched a few recent episodes of Verdict which is why I asked for Sky analysis.

A player born in IND holds Indian passport (or can apply for one) - representing ENG or NZ blocks him to represent for IND; but they can play for Ranji or IPL. Bhopara & Solanki played in domestics, Patel can as well, if he wants to represent Gujrat or Saurastra. Even, Popli or Raval can play for Gujrat, Baroda if they are willing. Also, for a country of 1.34bn, only 600 players can play Ranji - sticking in contention is not the wise decision always.

You are assuming that India wont grow in other sports. With the amount of money coming in for Football, Hockey, Tennis and even Kabaddi, cricket will not remain the only sport Indians are crazy about.

Just shows how good Saha actually is. Also shows how good a keeper Dhoni was against spin.

Against spin in India, I would rather have an average bat, but a brilliant keeper.

Sooner he is thrown out, better it is for India.

Saha out for Chennai test too. Poor Indian spinners. lol.

Those missed chances are starting to hurt. Another hour of this and England might fancy that they can make something out of this match.

Unless these two bat till lunch tomorrow India should win easily

England are just fluking it now.

Now rhyme or reason to their shots.

Have to keep it tight now and stay patient.

Ashwin has no luck at all.

Root was almost dismissed twice in this over now.

Reverse sweep lands a touch short of fielder.

Why would you not have a short leg?

Should bring in Ash from the other end. Seems to have a bit more the end from which Jaddu is bowling.

Unbelievable how foolish we have been in the field.

Stop jumping around and slow down the game now.

They are moving way too fast.
