Amla has played a great knock, hats off to him and I hope he will be remembered for a long time whether or not he gets them through today.
He should really

Regardless of the result here ... this has been his series, and is a clear message to all those that doubted him.

I think he's cemented his place in the time and he has certainly silenced his critics, I'm happy for him.

Sehwag kicks the ball into the boundary to force Morne on strike ... umpires not happy!

If that be the case then it is blatant cheating!!!

Really lack of sportsmenship from Sehwag he should be hauled in front of match Ref at end of game!

Sehwag shouldn't have done that, if you're gonna win, win the proper way.

Morne has done brilliantly as well. Has currently played out 57 deliveries.

How long left? how many overs to go?
Only a couple of overs scheduled ... but according to time, there is still a bit to go. Surprisingly today they haven't called the game off early due to bad light, otherwise SA would have drawn this game long time ago/

Congrats India! I guess Amla will be gutted to fall right at last hurdle!

Really no matter how great Sachin is, he did not mentioned Amla once in his interview.

Not good sportsman spirit, eh?

Cricinfo is not updating!!!
Most probably the Cricinfo text commentators and scorers were too excited to type. Probably doing a jig around their offices...!

He's a great batsman (at least, statistically). Doesn't mean he's a great or even a good sportsman and/or human being.

Congrats to India! Phew, what drama!

Well played Amla!!! Hats off to him for a truly outstanding innings and test series.

Well played India. Gr8 innings from Amla. 98 overs were to be bowled today and there was no bad light. India deserved to win this match and retain the no.1 position. Give credit where it is due.

What gripping drama. Test cricket at its best ! Well played to India and Bhaji. Singh is King as Sunil Gavaskar says. India retain the NO1 TEST spot.

But a spare of thought for the excellency of Hashim Amla. Outstanding effort and application.

Do you even bother reading what other people say before jumping to conclusions?

Yep, India definitely deserved to win this match - great comeback in the series, and very comprehensive win in this Test. Well done :14:

Retain the number 1 position? Well, all they do is play at home/sub-continent so no idea how merited or appropriate the position is...

After failing to get the last wicket for 20 odd overs I am not sure if I would whole heartedly agree with that. But having lost our strike bowler Zak and losing 94 overs to badlight and weather, I will take this result with a pinch of salt.

Full credit to SA though..Hashim Amla - what a player. He earned my highest regards in this series. :14: :14: :14: We might be potentially seeing the next test #1 now..

Meh. Drawing a series to a team at home and everyone getting so excited ?

I think overall South Africa have the same win/loss ratio in india but india have only ever one one game in S.A. Come beat us or even draw with us in South Afica now India, then you can call yourself number one.

While you at it beat england and Australia away before you make such claims.

we already beat england last time we were there?, probably the loss has messed up your mind somewhat!

India only win on dust bowls and when they win tosses

India has lost 5 consecutive tosses and won 4 of those games.
this was no dust bowl. Get a life man,

How can the "number 1 team in the world" so blatantly not be the best team in the world ?Surely South Africa , England and Australia are clearly better teams ? The ratings system is brokem or the bcci is orginising India far too many games at home.

I dont like the indian team and wanted the match to be drawn...
but RSA deserve every bit of agony of losing this match at the last few minutes

They simply dont deserve the No 1 tag.... they have been choking like hell for the last two decades! Cronje, pollock couldnt change it nor will G Smith or anyone in the future...

RSA = CHokers :)))

South Africa lost something like 12 out of 14 against England and Australia in the past 2 years.

How is England better than India???

As many have pointed out ... its sux that this series is over now. I mean these two will now play out another pointless ODI series when they could have played another absorbing test match.

Here come the hater again!! Find this guy actually funny

So who is no.1 Saffies....who barely saved their a$$es against England ( and yes we have beaten Eng away in our last tour)

South Africa is the most overrarted bunch of species....got couple of talented guys like Amla & Steyn & Kallis but who else. Your bowling is no good except steyn. I remember how you need a real green track againts Eng in the final test to save your face....

India also don't deserve to be no.1 as well but somebody has to and Its us because we have been consistent last 3 years....

Now come up with another balant argument!

GREAT TEST MATCH

Guys lets be honest the indians played with lots of Passion, heart and desire.
This match is great for TEST CRICKET !

Congrats Romalli Rotti and all the other indian posters on pakpassion. Your team played very good cricket !

Don't be a joke mate ... You clearly got your Butt whipped by hopless England in your DEN

And then you are claiming to be DESERVED NO. 1

How can you call off a match when lots overs are to be bowled? There are certain rules to follow and the umpires did exactly that. (Thank god both the umpires were neutral!).

This steyn guy is special...you take him out and Saffies have a mediocre bowling lineup!!

Its only bcoz of steyn special in that one session, SA managed to win a game ..(even the last tour was the same story where Steyn & Ntini combined on a fresh track)..other than that all the bowlers are chaisng leather all the time...

South Africa is like phannies and eternal chokers..... :))

Hmm..I think it is unfair to give them that title in this match just because of one man - Hashim Amla. He played his heart out today and I was sorry to see him on the losing side. So for just that one man, we need to credit SA for playing out of their skins and coming so close..

Remember how we felt when a Sachin century did not save us from defeat in 98 in Chennai against Pakistan. I am sure all the South Africans would feel likewise today. Regardless of the result, it was a perfect advertisement for test cricket and both teams deserve credit.

LOL

Why are you making this sound like a STAR TV drama. The light was good and hence the game went on - there's no rocket science involved in that.

India wins...................somehow
As I said South africa looked more complete/balanced team ( good batting & good bowling )

This is a team sport and even though Amla played a gem, the team as a group failed & choked!

Take out Steyn out of their bowling and its all rubbish crap there....Parnell looked nervous, Harris is a joker and Morket, at best, is steady.

If not for that Steyn spell , Saffies would be embarrased really hard!!

i believe he was one of those who went and congratulated him after the match was over. He usually does praise his opposition. In last series he went into the Bangla dressing room to praise them for playing well

And what can one say about Amla. Amazing performance and completely owned our bowlers

Barely saved our a$$es ? Are you for real ? England drew two games when they were 9 down and more 100 runs away from an innings defeat.

And who do India have that's so talented ? Sehwag ? Oh please ! He is hopeless when not playing on flat tracks. Same goes for the rest of the Indian entire batting ! And the bowling ? Sharma and Zaheer ? Bwahahahahahahahaha ! Take bhaji and misra away from a turning track and they're total clowns. India number 1 ? Don't make m belly laugh !
