VVD is the most overrated defender of all time. I laugh when people call him the best defender to ever play in the premier league. He is someone who gets praised for doing the most basic stuff. He is also someone who makes mistakes quite frequently but gets away with zero criticism. I have never seen a player get as much protection as VVD does.

The League was done when I last posted, told ya lol.

ITs ok ,we have had a good 10 years of winning a lot silveware, multiple league titles, CL title, many cups. This season is a transition period.

But dont think Utd will finish higher , a long way to go. lol.

Title done after 9 games with spending 400 million to upgrade the squad?

Winning the Title is off course a Great achievement, but being remembered as credible defending Champions is another. You guys are not handling the tag very well at all. Its natural opposition teams will lift their game for the Champions and unless You guys improve, it's only going to get tougher.

Got to give it to Fergie for the Three in a Row and off course recently Pep for four in a row. Takes incredible hunger desire mentality to achieve this.

As for Utd. I'd be happy with a Europa league Position and anything better a obvious bonus.

You cant have more than 6 losess, we will lose more yet. Its normal in team sports, with new players it takes time.

LFC has a lower net spend than Arsenal and has lower net spend than Utd for years. With both city and LFC in transition , its a joke an avg manager like Arteta will win the league but so did the likes of Ranieri .

Slots job is on the line now, another loss could be it. Leaking early goals has been the issue for years now, its idiotic not to solve this. Slot asked for big money and bought players he liked, he is now being stubborn playing them when they are not up to it.

CL is still on, we are LFC.
 
Sigh, none of my teams can buy a win at the minute (Liverpool/Pakistan) but that's life - we had it our way last season and now the pendulum swings again.

Feel like I'm watching the same game again and again.

1) We continually concede from the opposition's first chance ! Is it haram to sit in a low block for 20 mins (especially when playing away), frustrate the opponent, before opening up ?

2) Last season we defended set-pieces excellently but this season we've a negative set-piece GD. We've no shortage of tall 6ft+ players so IMO it's not a lack of physicality but mindset. We've lots of players who want to showcase their skills on-the-ball but not working hard enough doing the basics.

3) Our pressing is disjointed and ineffective which is lethal when combined with a high line (that includes a 34 year old VVD) as we leave gaps ! Maybe park the high press until the new signings are up to speed/Salah's moved on ?

4) Mamadashvilli looks superglued to his line. Dude you're 6ft 6 - use your size and command your box ! Alisson saves the first two goals and the Mbuemo goal vs Man Utd.

5) People are criticising the FBs - but IMO the system's making them worse. All four are ball carriers but Slot likes his FBs to be involved in buildup. That's fine when you've a unicorn in Trent but these guys can't do it.

6) What's also not helping the FBs is the wingers in front are playing poorly. Gakpo rarely uses Kerkez's overlaps and Salah doesn't cover Bradley defensively. Both lack pace and can't beat their FB on the outside.

That's why for the next month I just want us to focus on being compact and hard to beat. There's goals in us - our xG was again above 2 so that's not the issue. If Pep can adapt his philosophy, why can't we ?
 
Slot's team selecrtion is bizarre.

A reserve team and then some, i am shocked, almost writing off the carabao cup- not even having the starters on the bench.... strange!

Villa who Liverpool play at weekend, don't Normally resort to setting to low blocks and using long balls. Would be good if they do, as could mean another week of humiliation for Liverpool after this one tonight from palace

Fsg need to be ruthless and sack this guy I want to use something expletitive but can't but he has totally lost it klopp needs to be bought back in an emergency basis like Dalglish was bought back in that emergency when woy wogdson nearly relegated the team

Coming from American league sport perspective, most of the time the fans of champion teams are often content for a few years. Back to back is considered an enormous accomplishment 3 in4 years or 5 years considered a dynasty. mostly due the intesnity and length of the playoffs.

while enjoy seeing @KingKhanWC getting exposed for lack of intestinal fortitude, not conviced that Liverpool as team deserves the stick the year after they won the cup.

The league has barely started and this is a diddy cup that Liverpool arguably have focussed too much on in past seasons.

I understand the standards are high but thinking the next game could be his last seems to be a bit extreme.

Rogers got badly exposed up here and run away from Celtic because he tried to tell everyone he needed more money, even though their transfer budget is 10x more than most teams here.

He wont manage at the top level in England ever again.

Liverpool do seem to have some obsession with old managers. They are hankering for Klopp as caretaker.
I think they need to give Slot a bit of time.

Looks more and more like Slot wanted out of the Carabao Cup to concentrate on the next PL/CL matches. He threw those youngsters under the bus. He has completely lost it. If we lose vs Villa, he must be sacked.
 
Tbh I am actually not that angry or disappointed. Probably because of prior success as a club. We just need to ride this season out now…going to be a long one though.

I am disappointed by Liv fans calling for Slot to be sacked tbh. Even if he delivers a poor season, to call for the head of the guy who just won you the league is ridiculous.

I disagree bro. If Liverpool sold 2-3 key first team players and signed unproven players or had a new manager come in then fair enough. It’s the same manager who won the PL, it’s 90% same squad, if anything, your attack is nuclear level with Ekitike, Writz and Isak.

The reality is, you won the PL and on top of that signed a superstar in Isak and Writz, and proven players in Kerkez and Frimpong.

What had happened is - you guys signed the wrong profile of players for fullback. Should have focused on physicality at the back and also should have gone for a Baleba type of midfielder. Poor decisions were executed in the summer but that still doesn’t excuse the poor form to the season; I can’t say start to the season, because you guys actually started the season well. Slot is also losing the plot in his conferences, and it really tells you a lot about the manager.

But this is the thing with Liverpool, they don’t consistently perform for 5/6 seasons, they just do well in one season or two, and land a major trophy, only 3 since 2019/2020 though.

This season Liverpool have been exposed in many ways, biggest blunder has been not giving Ektike the only spotlight upfront; and in no way is this a transition season; it’s a damaging season. They didn’t spend all that to go into transition back of winning PL title.

I disagree, it is certainly a transition, all that outlay, change in playing style, key personnel- Salah and VVD seemingly do not have it anymore, the worry is that the transition could last a couple of years.

You do realise if a player is out of form, it doesn’t mean the club itself is going through a transition lol?

VVD and Salah were brilliant last season, all of a sudden they do not have it anymore? That’s a knee jerk reaction.

You disagree but fail to land valid points. And I bet, the word transition wasn’t even mentioned in this thread when Liverpool were 5 points clear few weeks ago.

I agree with you regarding full backs but Kerkez was outstanding like Frimgpong last season, same form now and they would be applaud.

Liverpool and City are the only 2 team who have done well in the last 10 years, both winning multiple league titles and also champions league. If these are below par then other teams such as Arsenal must be a laughing stock...which they are tbf until they win the title this season.

Last seasons team was Klopps team, already set in motion and if Klopp stayed the PL would have been won by even a bigger margin. We changed too many positions, it takes time to gel so you're already throwing away much of the season if not all. Some of the sales were poor. Diaz was immense on the left wing, he can take players on but Gapko only cuts inside. Kelleher is better than the 2nd keeper we bought in. Trent left too.

Slot will likely be fired , next season with a good manager LFC will be very strong.

Nice to have an intelligent post worth replying too, this forum doesnt have many who know much of footy.

Yep. Klopps philosophy ran its course. Slot made tactical tweaks here and there to stabilize it. Hence Romped it.

Agree banter is banter 😆 its what keeps the thread Going.

On the Liverpool fans demanding Slots departure are fans who don't have a Scooby doo on Footy.

He did a good job last season, you don't win the league if you can't manage.

Problem this year was he tried to integrate to many new players at once and change the system. He should have eased certain players in slowly. That way it would have made new players settle in better and also tweak the way he wanted to play. Liverpool went back to basics tonight, they still look shambolic in defence. But the midfield and attack looked bit more cohesive.

With Real and Man city next, Liverpool will need to keep improving

Liverpool v Real Madrid .

Threw away the league but this major trophy is very much on to win , even if it’s not 3 points tonight . When the knockout stages arrive the team will be stronger . This is an in form Madrid team , coming off the back of beating Barcelona . A good test for Liverpool after beating Villa and before facing City
