Official Pakistan 2013 General Elections thread

We still haven't announced out candidates. I'm a bit disappointed. In ISB even Musharrafs party has more campaigning than ours!

not quite.

1st he said he will wipe it out in 90 days.

then he said he will wipe out the 'big' corruption in 90 days.

then he said that the same phenomenon happened in Bihar (or someplace in India) that is where he got the 90 days figure from.

plenty of revisions from IK.

Even WITH his revisions, it's much better than saying "I want bullet trains". Seriously, that is an idiotic thing to say.

anyone seen this? interesting.

that's a matter of opinion, they have a background of 'building' stuff hence they use it to their advantage.

one can just as easily get bored of sweeping claims of change, revolution etc etc...

another PTI Song for TRs!!!!!!!!

Easily?

It's something Pakistanis have been wanting since a long time. A revolution or a claim of change is EXACTLY what a party which has never been in power will have to say .

PTV promoting us :) Key is turnout... we need 60+% to clean sweep. Keep Vote4None guys out!!!

<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=444199239000678" width="320" height="180" frameborder="0"></iframe>

60% is a big number.

that's nitpicking. He has always said he will end the big corruption in 90 days. And how can you compare bullet trains to ending corruption in 90 days? Do we need bullet trains? No, we are far far from it. Even a country like USA has no plans to build bullet trains.

AZ yaar jaan dyo, i have watched almost every interview of Imran in the last 3 years and he has ALWAYS said big corruption. He has ALWAYS said we need to start from top as that is what hurts the economy the most and it can surely be tackled in 3 months.

This corruption in 90 days question has been answered a million times by Imran, and PTi supporters. Yet it is being brought up again and again. Is this really the best nooras can do? Coz if it is, then PMLN have a lot of skeletons in their closet that have been exposed multiple times.

And closet fans really need to come out and openly say who they are supporting, rather than praising bullet trains in a country where people dont have electricity, gas and food.

that is fine, where am I saying he is lying or any such thing?

just that it is a pretty bold/far-fetched claim, and that I have my doubts that is feasible.

Insafians really need to stop getting so worked up over IK, really.

I think the larger point is not whether Imran Khan can eliminate corruption or NSharif can build bullet trains but rather the content of the statements. Corruption is a very real problem facing Pakistan which if eliminated could increse tax revenue as much as 2 billion USD and lead to a better law and order situation throughout the country. The Bullet trains one the other hand are an extremely expensive investment costing several billion dollars with no real economic or political justification. The only countries where bullet trains are justifiable are highly dense and post industrialized countries where the populace can afford and would prefer the trains ie Japan. The two Statement reflect Imran Khan's and Sharif's vision for Pakitstan, while Imran wants to do something real for Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif would rather waste money on a white elephant project.

Worked up, really?:43::43:

My friend it may seem far fetched but i think Imran is one person who has achieved what most thought was far fetched and hardly ANY one can question his intentions so he will undoubtedly make a huge difference if he gets a chance.

Such projects boost the economy and will eventually increase streams of revenue and create jobs, I would say that is a pretty significant justification.

Yaar aap ko nahi kehna chahta tha, should have added more of a gap there :asif

but I have noticed that Insafians become a close-minded when it comes to IK, if he says something or takes a position then it almost becomes 'law' for them to adhere to it.

Who's going to pay for it? At a time when IMF refuses to pay Pakistan two Billion dollars, how are you going to finance a project worth tens of billion of dollars? Secondly, how are you going to fuel it? And finally, who's going to ride in it. You really think the vast majority of Pakistanis will be able to afford it. Its a white elephant project at this stage of Pakistan's development which will cost us millions in subsidies. There are so many other things that are worth an investment including dams, nuclear power plants, roads, education, military, police etc

Imran Khan's campaign in Mianwali to be slowed down as our very own Misbah is supporting our campaign :)

I recently asked a shopkeeper who he would vote for.
He said: 'Sher kay liye'
I thought he meant Imran Khan and told him I'm considering voting for Imran too.
He's like: 'Naheen, Nawaz ki party kay liye'
He meant their logo. :P I asked him why. He said because he had seen their ads and didn't really know what PTI stood for.

I also asked a waiter who he would vote for.
He said he'd be voting for Jamaat-e-Islaami.

When I asked both these people who their favourite leader in Pakistan was, both immediately said Imran Khan. I queried why they weren't voting Imran then. One said the lack of ads, the other said the lack of past seats. It frustrates me when people say they love Imran Khan but won't vote for him. Party performance in the past really is a key thing. Plus PTI's campaign so far has been inadequate.

who owns Imran's isb house...?

Imran got assets totaling 3 crore...

Yes we got an honest leader :D

oh yaar, iss se pehlay aap kichar mein paaon marnay ki koshish karain... app ki poori pipli-ya-abad basti is kichar ke neechay abaad hai... apnay kichar hum peh mut uchalain... meharbaani...

Shahid KHAN Afridi just joined PML-N!!! (probably as a spy for Khan :D)

Oops.. Afridi just denied it.. Oh well, just a rumour

The PTI campaign has been a bit of a shambles, i think the move from being a niche party to a party with mass appeal has been quite difficult for them to handle. The chances of the PTI winning more than 30 seats is quite low but worry not as history is with the PTI. Afterall, both the PML and PPP are only in existence to make money for their members with absolutely no care for the public. I challenge anybody to find even one honest person in the PPP and more than a handful in the PML.As stupid as the public is, they will wake up one day.

Disappointing campaign so far from PTI

Have no governance history,do not have electables and yet are no where to be seen...

May be agencies have warned political parties against holding public gatherings..?:13:

this is your reply?

You requesting me not to ask question?

I am not even counting dozens other properties...just want to know who owns Imran's Islamabad's home?

or who pays the property tax of his house?

or who's name he got the electric meter?

if Imran did not mention his home while declaring his assets..than in my book he is worse than sharifs and zardaris as Zardari/sharif never said that "Mein hamesha quoum se sach boolon ga"

and if Ik using some technical loophole is in the process and not declared his home...then, he is just same like others...

and got no moral ground to call zardari / sharif corrupt.

^PTI needs to use this too. PML-N are trying to glorify their 1998-99 period. PTI should expose the realities about that period.

PPP defending their record instead of what they have done :)

PTI Needs to do attack ads to put PMLN on defensive :)

^^

Hamid Khan.... But things change quickly in PTI as we do not rely on candidates... This could change again. Final announcement tomorrow

This ad can be used both against PPP and PMLN. PML N are trying to achieve the glory by falsely portraying 1998-99 as a gold period by focusing on motorways and Nuclear missile, but the ground realities we all know were different, qarz utaro mulk sawaro scheme, closing down all power projects, etc.

PPP can't use this for obvious reasons because they were in power now forget what BB did 15 years ago.

Win Win for PTI

PPP defending their record instead of what they have done :)

yes and can you pass this on some offcial of PTI that they need to make their party symbol, bat that is, more eminent, more recognizable if you will. Not many people know about the bat yet. This is very important IMO

my constituency is NA-125 Lahore.

Khawaja Saad Rafique from PMLN.

not sure whom it will be from PTI yet.

I am from NA-125 too. Hamid Khan is a great choice but KH Saad is way to popular. Also, the JI candidate will get a lot of votes. So, all in all, saad rafique favorite to win.

Will do hopefully, thanks. But Hamid Khan needs to start campaigning. Saad Rafique had a jalsa 2 days ago and JI held around 10 corners meetings and a grand workers convention.

Has anyone seen the PPP ad being aired on Pakistan TV channel.

Not a single glimpse of the great leader :zardari

:(

^that is because he is legally bared to involve in any political campaign by SC and ECP. Unless ofcourse, he resigns from President's post :)

All about voter turn out!!!!!!

<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=266068676871449" width="1280" height="960" frameborder="0"></iframe>

^^^^ only prob i see is that we can have 1000's of voters in one area and win by a huge huge margin say 150000 voters to 50000 by opposition, however, at the other side, we can have zero voters or less and lose as well... thats just to say the numbers...

but i do agree with the fact that if the voter turn out is greater than 60%.... inshallah we will see PTI in power...

60% turnout would be a phenomenal achievement.

even close to 50% would be a big success story.

Most of the Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders are against allowing their vice chairman, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, to contest election from two constituencies in Sindh as an independent candidate, according to PTI sources.

Although Mr Qureshi at a recent press conference claimed that PTI chief Imran Khan was very much on board about his decision to file nomination papers for NA 228 and NA 230 as an independent candidate, the party has yet to make a formal announcement on the move.

Shafqat Mahmood, a PTI spokesman, only said the decision was part of a special arrangement for contesting elections in Sindh. He parried a question whether other party leaders or ticket holders would be afforded a similar generosity by the leadership.

When confronted with a similar question earlier this month in Karachi, Imran Khan failed to justify the reason for allowing Mr Qureshi to go solo in Sindh. Instead, he said it wasn’t a serious issue; after all he was vice chairman of the party. “Even if Mr Qureshi contests the election on a party ticket or independently, the seat will remain with the PTI,” Mr Khan was quoted as saying.

“A majority of us are not happy with Mr Qureshi’s decision to contest the election as an independent candidate,” said a senior party leader who is also member of the PTI’s board entrusted with the task of awarding party tickets.

“What a paradox that Mr Qureshi had announced his decision to join the PTI at a massive rally in Sindh on Nov 27 last year and now he is contesting the election from the province as an independent candidate,” said the leader.

“The move will definitely not send a good message to voters and PTI activists who are working day and night for a much-needed change in the country,” he added.

Talking to Dawn, a party member said the matter had been taken up at meetings in Islamabad in which Mr Khan preferred to keep quiet instead of defending Mr Qureshi’s decision.

The party’s media wing, which otherwise has been forthcoming in replying to journalists’ questions, is in a quandary over the matter. “Yes, we find ourselves in an awkward position when media personnel ask questions about Mr Qureshi’s decision,” the party official added.

One plausible explanation given by a PTI leader about the decision was local dynamics in the two Sindh constituencies. The PML-Functional chief, Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi (Pir Pagara), was willing to support Mr Qureshi only if he joined the former’s political alliance in Sindh against the PPP, the PTI leader said.

The PTI has announced that it will not be part of any political alliance and contest the elections alone. The party might have opted for a seat adjustment with the PML-F, but it was not possible because of the latter’s alliance with the PML-N. “This is the only explanation which Mr Qureshi can offer to his party colleagues, although the PTI has yet to clarify the mystery in so many words in the media,” the official said.

Another explanation is that because of the tough competition in NA 148, Multan, his home constituency, Mr Qureshi does not want to take any risk and has decided to contest the election from the Sindh constituencies where he has followers of his ancestors and the PML-F’s support can earn him an NA seat.

PTI declares candidates for four Okara NA seats

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has confirmed its tickets for four out of five National Assembly constituencies in the district, besides announcing its candidates for various provincial assembly seats.

In NA-143, the PTI confirmed ticket to Mehmoodur Rehman Khan Lashari, a lawyer. He had contested 2008 election from PP-185 on Pakistan People`s Party ticket.

Sources say Lashari had actually been seeking PPP ticket for the constituency while the PTI was looking for a suitable candidate for NA-143. So, they say, the party and the man suited each other.

In PP-185, Mian Anwar Pasha had been confirmed as PTI candidate. The party ignored the former MPA, Malik Akram Bhatti, for the constituency who will now contest election as an independ-ent candidate.

In PP-189 the PTI ticket went to Chaudhry Masud Shafgat Rubera, belonging to politically influential Rubera family. In NA-144, the PTI has confirmed ticket to Rao Khalid Mustafa, while for PP-190 it chose Chaudhry Muhammad Azhar who is also district president of the party.

In PP-191 the PTI has confirmed Qari Hafizullah Baloch as its candidate.

Baloch is the party`s district general secretary.

In NA-145 the PTI confirmed its ticket to Ali Husnain Naqvi, while in PP-186 it awarded ticket to Chaudhry Wasi Tahir.

In PP-187 the pary has yet to announce its candidate.

In NA-146, the PTI confirmed ticket to Prof Abdur Rauf Dola, while for PP-192 the party confirmed Chaudhry TariqIrshad Khan as its candidate, ignoring former MPA Malik Nazar Fareed Khokhar and Mian Sanaullah Dola. After being refused the PTI ticket, both joined Dr Abdul Qadeer`s Tehrik-e-Tahafuz-ePakistan party.

In NA-147 and PP-193 the PTI ticket had not been confirmed to any candidate.

PTI enters Muzaffargarh polls race, fields candidates

The Pakistan TehreeleiInsaf has entered the electoral politics of Muzaffargarh with the nomination of its candidates for NA-178, PP254, PP-255 and PP-252. All nominees are defectees from PPP and PML-N but are potential electables and likely to put up a tough contest.

For NA-178, the PTI has awarded ticket to Mian Sajid Naeem Qureshi, brother of former state minister Engineer Shahid Jameel Qureshi. Sajid had first applied for a PML-N ticket but after refusal moved to the PPP that gave him the ticket since its former MNA Jamshed Dasti had announced to leave the party.

His stint with the PPP was just six days old when PML-N disappointed Nawab Iftikhar Ahmed Khan also who turned to former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. The PPP welcomed Iftikhar with open arms since Gilani had visited Said Nagar and at a meeting celebrated the Nawab family`s joining of the PPP.

Resultantly, Sajid Naeem was refused the ticket that lefthim nowhere. He contacted the PTI and with the blessings of Nawabzada Mansoor Khan, the eldest son of Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, got the ticket for NA-178. This would be the fist time Qureshi and Nawab are contesting elections for the same party.

Nawabzada Mansoor, who is contesting for PP-256 and NA179, has a considerable vote bank in NA-178 and the Qureshi family has a strong hold in the rural union councils.

The PTI awarded the ticket for PP-254 to Sardar Abdul Hayee Dasti, who is the nephew of former Punjab minister late Sardar Amjad Hameed Dasti. He had also applied for a PML-N ticket and had been tipped as the likely candidate of the party for the last three years but was refused at the eleventh hour. He then contacted Nawab Mansoor and got the PTI ticket. Now, Sajid Qureshi for NA-178 and Nawab Mansoor and Hayee Dasti for PP-256 and PP-254, respectively have emerged as a strong group.Hayee contested the 2008 elections for PP254 as an independent candi-date but lost to the PPP`s Irshad Sial. However, he won from all Muzaffargarh city union councils. He is being seen as a tough competitor for the PML-N candidate for PP-254, Hammad Tipu, who is a newcomer. Tipu was awarded the ticket for being a committed PML-N worker. The DastiQureshi combination in PP254 is also worrisome for the PPP`s Irshad Sial who is concentrating on rural areas of the constituency.

The PTI has awarded ticket for PP-255 to former union council nazim Iqbal Pittafi.

He would be facing PPP`s Nawazish Qalandrani, PMLN`s Farooq Khar and Jamshed Dasti-backed Alamdar Husain Qureshi.

However, for NA-177, the PTI is still undecided between Mian Zulfiqar Ali Qureshi and Rana Mahboob Akhtar and a final decision is likely on April 16 (tomorrow).

The party has fielded Shahid Mustafa Qureshi for PP-252.

The PTI had already announced Nawab Mansoor Khan for NA-179 and Jameel Bukhari, a former PML-N MNA, for NA-180.

Dissapointed to see IK not going up against Nawaz Sharif in Lahore. If he is a circus lion then you guys needed to confront him at his base. The urban areas in Punjab should be PTI's best chances to gain seats but looks like you guys are very disorganized right now. Most places don't even have candidates announced and from what I'm hearing the emphasis has been on TV ads instead of the usual local ground level campaigning.

PTI's/Imran's lack of focus and prennial procrastination are yet again coming back to haunt him...
same thing happened when they failed to build on their momentum following the first Lahore/Karachi jaslas as well as their long delay in commencing and completing the internal party elections...

Of all the promises and bringing new innovative ways to campaign and target voters, PTI's election campaign has been a huge disappointment if not an outright disaster...

^^

Shafqat Mehmood is a good choice... You don't Want Mehmood ur Rasheed ex Jamtia competing against another JI leader Liaqaut Baloch + a conservative candidate from PMLN...

I hate him for his incompetence in handling Media cell but this is a good decision... he can win over the Libidos :)

shireen Maari has been appointed the new secretary information in SM's place.

why are PTI supporters' opinions always swinging like a pendulum?

its either we are sweeping the elections or campaign is a disaster :inzi

thora hosla rakho for God's sake.

Why is that you have an opinion about anything and everything PTI and its supporters do? lol

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. if a supporter feels that something is not being done well he/she has a right to criticize. That's democracy.

And last but not the least Pakistani is a jazbaati qaum anyway. Someone who follows cricket and posts on a forum shouldn't be asking this. One match we have threads like Umar Gul is Awesome and next match we will bump up threads like Gul is awful. That's how we are.

acting like a wrist-slitting emo is hardly constructive, just makes one looks like an idiot.

Future of Pakistan will be safe only when the masses find their way in to assemblies. As long as the ruling elite continues to get elected, the former is not possible.

Yeah democracy to all the PTI supporters. PML(N) supporters only care about their royal family and their children and in making sure the the sharif khandan is making all the money it needs to.

PML (N) supporters wont dare to question or criticize their leader..akhir its Nawaz Sharif, the best of the sharifs, and the savior of all of Pakistan..

In any society, group, crowd, etc there are all set of people- ingenious and impassive. They key is to work with the both ends of the spectrum and find an equilibrium which is beneficial for you.

No thanks.

we would let Jamshed Dasti break PPP's vote bank if there is anything like that still exists :)

Game changers: Imran injects ‘fresh blood’ into national politics

ISLAMABAD:
Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan lived up to his word.
He had promised to introduce fresh blood into Pakistan’s politics, which has been monopolised for decades by feudal lords and capitalists. And he did just that.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) took ‘remarkable risks’ and awarded 80% of party tickets to political new comers instead of relying on ‘electable’ candidates. The party, however, has full faith in these ‘non-electable’ candidates and hopes to sweep next month’s parliamentary elections.
“We have awarded over 80% tickets to the non-electable who have never been a part of any assembly,” said Imran while announcing party tickets for the youth on Monday. “The PTI is making history today by allotting 35% of tickets to the youth. And this will, of course, make a ‘Naya Pakistan’,” he said.
Imran said his party would field 800 candidates across the country. Of them, over 600 are debutantes – and 35% are below the age of 40, he added.
He also appealed to the nation to contribute to the ‘Naya Pakistan Fund’ which has been set up to finance the election campaigns of young PTI candidates. “They [the youth] are the game-changers and want revolution through the ballot,” he said. He revealed that 250 candidates of his party have not enough resources to run their political campaigns.
“It was difficult to pick out 800 candidates from 6,000 applications,” he said. “Now, a new leadership can fix the state institutions. The nation will fight a decisive battle for a new system,” he added. The party has awarded around 80% of tickets on the recommendations of its district organisations.
“We had decided that tickets would not be awarded to the relatives of party leaders. I vetted the list [of aspirants] myself to rule out nepotism in the award of tickets,” he added. He said that ideological politics came to an end in Pakistan in 1985 – but the PTI wanted to revive it. “Now, Pakistanis want to rid themselves of the two traditional political parties, PML-N and PPP,” he said. The two parties had been partners in the Punjab government for three-and-a-half years while they had been partners in Balochistan till date.
“In fact, they are one on all issues. PML-N leaders have said on record that they helped the PPP-led government to complete its tenure. Now, the PML-N wants to take its turn. The nation will not allow them to play musical chairs,” he said.

Against all odds, Imran has awarded 25% tickets to educated youth. Let's hope the "tabdeeli razakars" stress on this point as a lot of people use "old faces" excuse.
