Nice batting conditions and if the weather is nice, no excuse. Pakistan need to bat out today and lose no more than 5 wickets. Aim to bat for 5 sessions. We can definitely salvage a draw here.

Yep bro, no excuses. Just play out that first hour but even then no demons on this pitch. If Pakistan can bat out day 3 and majority of day 4 we might even put a small score on to put pressure on them. Spin might come into play.

Batting conditions aren't good because it's projected to rain, and that brings about overcast conditions which the likes of Boult and Southee will become real dangers.

Abbas has a key role tomorrow, he needs to be there as long as he can to blunt the new ball, to make life easier for the likes of Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, etc.

I agree that we need to bat for as long as we can, because New Zealand have given us the chance to draw the match by batting for long themselves.

If we can draw this match, we can put New Zealand under pressure in the second game, and we would have come out of the game with a learning curve and also hopefully have the services of Babar Azam.

We can then aim to win the series if it depends on one game, and I back us to challenge them. If that's the case, also remember that New Zealand won't go with a flat pitch for the second game, they'll go with the greenest one they can find just to bat us out. We need to be on top of our game. No more loose ends on the team, get rid of Naseem Shah if he can't bowl well. If we can draw this match and win the series, that will go a long way for confidence and for our team.

That being said, we should focus on this game first. New Zealand will operate Southee and Boult for about 18 overs or so to look for any swing, so we need to be very careful. Abbas needs to defend everything if the ball is swinging, and once it stops, he needs to just hit as many runs as he can to give us a boost. I'd prefer if he targeted someone like Jamieson to potentially move him out of the attack.

Abid Ali has a lot on his shoulders, he needs to be there for a long time. We need a big ton from him if we want to draw the game.

Just need to wait it out InshAllah patience is your key and if you are patient it will be fruitful. I can agree it will get a little tough after lunch when is when the rain is expected to arrive but hopefully when the weather clears up later it will be better for us.

An X-ray has confirmed an undisplaced-fracture to Neil Wagner’s fourth right toe, but he has been cleared to play by a doctor - providing he can he can tolerate the pain.

Wagner will need to warm-up fully this morning before a final call is made.

Well he took some meds yesterday and managed to bowl 3 overs.

Personally wont risk him..

You ask for too much... In reality... We need to avoid follow on first... 🧐

No rain prediction bro... 🤔🤔🤔🤔

22 overs already gone... Just need to calm down and play your shots after half hour..

This is good stuff. Just block everything till day 5 and bash the ball for a 4 or 6 when NZ bowers gets frustrated and bowls the odd lollipop.

The top 3 have done a great job so far. The middle order really need to take advantage of this.

I'm sure Jamieson and Wagner will cause more problems than Southee. In fact when Matt Henry is fit, he should replace Southee. That would make this NZ test attack even stronger.

Keep wearing the bowlers down.

Pitch doesn't have any demons yet.

This pitch is flat as a pancake...the only issue is if we just keep blocking the scoring isnt moving

I honestly think Abbas can probably fulfil the same role Shan Masood does: defend every ball, take the shine off the new ball and get out for a score of 5-10 runs each innings. Only difference is that Shan possesses a classy shot that Abbas doesn't: edge through the slips for a boundary

Ooooh, bit risky there from Abid trying a scoring shot, just block man!

Good leaving from Abbas, just needs to watch ball carefully, block when in line and watch for the extra bounce to prevent edging off.

This pitch was similar when we played England here. It was flat but also not really quick enough to make scoring freely easy.

good block by Abbas.

edit: next ball a bit late to play.

No threat from Boult and Southee right now. Surely Wagner or Jamieson will come on soon.

And we never learn, we may play even 100 overs but will score only 220 and not 320 then nz add quick 220 and give us 400 target in 4 sessions and then typical choke job. Rinse and repeat , spending time without scroing even at 3 rpo is criminal. But they will never laern.

This block only plan maybe good at this stage because its start of day problem is they play same even in last ten overs of day. Stil thankfully at least they are surviving.

0/30 from Abbas, absolutely beautiful, keep it going.

Come on Abbas, don't try to play a shot. Don't give it away now.

Abbas would be a perfect lead actor for black and white movies from Hollywood and Bollywood with his face.

Global superstar like Anil Kapoor

Southee is trying hard to compete with Abbas' average speed here.

This is the plan man. Block your way to another defeat. Because its test cricket how can u even ask for 2.5 to 3 rpo.

Nothing wrong with this approach for at least the first 40 overs to wear down the seamers, but yes after that they'll need to be more proactive.

Good judgment so far.

No risks.

Abbas playing a blinder.

That Express pacer guy was saying he was going to the match today, he'd be loving this. Fantastic test match batting from Pak.

I like how Abid Ali is able to change his batting style from aggressive to defensive, this tour could really make him into a test star.

Abbass mentally stronger than bull too.

True. At minimum should be over 200 before the 2nd new ball, around 250 or so would be ideal.

Abbas batting like a real hero, keep it up big man.

Even Nz commies having fun at expense of our approach.

No they weren't, they were just having fun about Abbas the nightwatchman not getting off the mark.

He's not gonna bat like Virender Sehwag now is he.

I’m glad Kane Williamson isn’t a Pakistani. After his innings yesterday we would be comparing him to Sami Aslam.

That's the ball I was talking about to watch out for, the unexpected bounce, hurt Abid there.

I have to agree. I had my doubts but I just love watching him play, has yet to really let us down in his short career so far.

Hopefully that's not a serious blow Abid's copped. Already have had a few hand injuries on this tour.

We know the guy have all shots and he does score at decent pace when set . Even our batsman can, its not about ability its about approach.

Hope this Santner doesn't throw a spanner in the works.

Is this a Test in NZ or UAE?

What an absolute snooze fest this entire Test match has been.

What's the point of Abbas staying out there and just blocking at this point, score runs or get out.

Unless there is a significant rain threat, this batting is going to back fire for PAK. There are still over 260 overs left in the game and surely PAK won’t cross Kiwi’s total without scoring. I understand the conditions but, there has to be some intention to score!!! Couple of wickets and everything will be lost.

As I was writing, Abid gone

What was the point of the block fest if you are going miss a straight one.

What is the batting approach?
