Good god almighty, somebody stop the dayum matchhow many "arabs" are actually playing for that SA team
![]()
all seem like Pakistanis, the Chinese team, on the other hand, is full of real Chinese players
I respect that, they should be awarded the match; SA cheated![]()
Lu Cangcang lasted 32 balls, what a legend.
See that's the problem with attempting to globalize cricket. A complete and utter waste of time. This Chinese team would get battered in an U-15 street cricket players in Pakistan. I bet if we form a PP XI, we will probably win by 200 runs and this will include some of the 40 and 50 year old posters who haven't played the game for decades

There;s a difference between globalising the game in regions and areas where cricket exists and talent exists as opposed to an area like China where about 11 people even know it exists and all of them played today
Saudi players will all be South Asian expats. At least China has actual ethnic Chinese players. China is more focused on becoming a footballing powerhouse though than a cricketing one.

You have to start at some point - even we were whipping boys back in the early 50's and even beyond.
Just look at Bangladesh - they were thrashed left, right and center for decades but now have seen the fruits of their investment and finally becoming a better team now.
Cricket was played in BD from 1880s - Fort Dacca (Now Pilkhana) had a cricket ground & cricket matches between different battalions - later with Deshis vs Dora. It was extremely popular even in 1940s, just the Bengali culture wasn't sports oriented. Out of 1.4bn Chinese, apart from 1.4K may be, rest will know cricket as beetle; though China is the most dominant sports nation in world.
You can't hatch 2 eggs/day from a hen stimulating steroids - ICC is trying that with it's globalization mantra.
shaz619 if Chinese get serious about Cricket then eventually they will improve.
Chinese team would be interesting with spinners barrage. Left arm chinaman by gawd! Athletic shaolin fielders. Not big hitters, but smart batsmen with good techniques and fast runners.Exactly and I appreciate that their team is not full of expats, we should appreciate the fact that after a long time there is some interest beyond the typical avenues!

Interesting to see the pitches too. Fast and bouncy pitches in Himalayas. Slow turners in Gobi desert, green tops in Beijing and flat pancakes in Shanghai. China would be a great addition to international cricket.
So racist![]()

Yes. And Don't know why ICC is so obsessed with China. ICC should be focusing more on existing teams, lower ranked full members like West Indies & Zimbabwe, and the top associates like Afghanistan, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland & Nepal where people follow cricket and have some talented cricketers too
Ireland & Netherlands can then be used as a gateway to a billion dollar European market. Football will be the top, but even if 1% of people in mainland Europe can be cricket crazy, that will be a massive market for cricket. The remaining 99% can still be football crazy

With increased awareness of cricket now - more Chinese people may start taking up the sport and it may grow in popularity.
After 20-30 years - Chinese cricket may begin to prosper and we may see many of their people take up the sport.
I still believe we have to start somewhere - if what you say is true, then Chinese cricket is where Bangla cricket was at in the 1880's.
However, with globalization, media and mass promotion of the game - their growth cycle can be much faster.
China can easily do in cricket, what they are doing in football - that's say offering $25 for entire PAK, BD & SRL team to play some mickey mouse game in their country - that's actually less than what they are paying to few footballers individually. Take another British sport - Snooker; in 1990 there was no professional player in China & hardly any decent amateur. For 1998 Asiad (In KL), they started to prepare for Snooker in early '90s- it started with Ding Jinhuie (?), within 10 years China became a Snooker super power - Ding beat Ronnie (Or Higgins) to win a WC. This year, probably 4 or 5 Chinese players have made the last 16 in Sheffield (WC). This actually indicates that there is hardly any awareness of cricket in China, otherwise, they can master this game as well in less than 20 years.

Although I agree with the point you're trying to make about developing the game I'd argue that it would take far longer to develop a team that can compete at the top level for a team sport than a few individuals who can compete at the top level in an individual sport.
Cricket is probably the only team game, that's dominated by individuals. Though the match is 11 vs 11, but the contest is always 1 on 1. In that regard, if China takes cricket seriously, they'll find few outstanding individuals.
Baseball.........
There are a lot of countries to target: Brazil, Morocco, Poland, Algeria, Argentina, Spain, South Korea, France, Turkey, Germany, Thailand, Egypt, Vietnam, Philippines, Mexico, and Russia.
All of these places have high populations.

Way too late. Nobody in their right mind would waste time playing 5 day test cricket. The world has moved on from 19th century
The Chinese actually held the Saudis at bay for the first 15 overs or so after which the flood gates opened. The fitness and ground fielding of the Chinese players is on par with any other associate nation, but a lack of big time matches has hurt their ability to develop match awareness.
Only the Chinese and Bhutanese squad is comprised completely of ethnic players. Thailand has a mixture of ethnic and foreign players.
Btw, one Thai ethnic player hit a fantastic match winning hundred yesterday. https://www.facebook.com/CricketTha...59377477199/10155155746507200/?type=3&theater
They should promote it in China. Pakistan do the outreach, after all Pakistan and China are all-weather friends. In the meantime China can just elect the Hong Kong team to be the Chinese national side.
If anyone had looked at Afghanistan in 2002 and were told where they are now, they would laugh in your face. If Afghanistan can rise to the top of the associates and the edge of Full Membership in 15 years, this while facing multiple insurgencies, a war torn nation, then China can surely do it. Don't think this impossible. Best thing, we have done it before. Now send them to China and Pakistan will automatically gain a counter balance vote to India in the ICC. It will also be the first non-commonwealth country to adopt cricket.

And with the exception of Argentina who to this day have an annual multi day match between north and south none of those nations have any cricketing history nor will they.
If the ICC wants them to get interested the Olympics is the answer, but look at the ICC, they won't do it because 2/200 nations would be inconvenienced by it. So there you go
Kuwait smashes China for 460/7 off 50 overs today - http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-wcl-asia-region-division-1/engine/match/1089475.html
ICC should stop this obsession with China and focus more on Ireland, Netherlands, Afghanistan & Nepal 1st before thinking of anyone else
The ones in Blue are the ones where there has been some sort of tradition of cricket - Argentina & France
The ones in Green are those who have some potential -
South Korea -. They didn't have team till 2011, but still impressed in 2014 Asian games. They kept a strong Sri Lankan team to 172/8 off 20 overs and beat China as well. Just need to work on their batting. They have some good spinners
Germany - Cricket is getting popular in Germany thanks to the expats, but some encouraging news is coming with some Germans also taking a interest. They should rise to the 5th spot in Europe after England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands soon. And hoping that when Germany rises up the rankings, atleast 50% of their squad should be German
Thailand - Their women's team has been doing well and is ranked 1 of the top Associates in women's cricket. And they have ethnic players too in both men's & women's. Thailand has a lot of untapped potential as well and we can see Malaysia v Thailand being a good rivalry in cricket
In other countries, hardly anyone would be knowing what is cricket

Hah! A decent club team in Thailand could beat this China squad.
The Dutch haven't really adopted cricket as you said in an earlier post, it's very much a fringe sport and they rely hugely on their foreign blow-ins.
I'm in Germany for 9 months now or so and cricket literally doesn't exist.99/100 Germans would not know it is. Most care about football to a tremendous extent and also NFL, handball and ice hockey are growing (Ice Hockey world cup is just up the road in Duesseldorf this year). Outside that no other team sports register at all here with the populace.
I want to spread the game and Germany is worth a try due to the Afghan population here but cricket needs to be smart. Without Olympic participation these teams like China,Germany etc will forever remain tiny
I know about 95% of Dutch haven't adopted cricket. It's only about 5% of the Dutch who follow cricket and less than 0.5% of Dutch is cricket crazy. But the good thing is that more than 60% of Dutch players are ethnic Dutch players, although in recent years to improve the standard of national team, they do look at importing Dutch origin players from Australia, South Africa & New Zealand
In Netherlands, cricket has to compete with other sports for being in the top 5. Football is at the top there, but even to be in top 5 sports, they have competition. Good thing about Netherlands is that they have a sports culture and do well in the sports they pick up. Being the 13th team in the 13 team ODI league will help take Netherlands cricket to a different level and they can get more Dutch to pick up the sport and by being the 13th team in the ODI league, they will also have a chance to be the 13th test playing nation around 2021-2022
SC teams should feel lucky China hasn't taken Cricket seriously!
Not sure whats there to even joke about. Chine recently picked up the bat. This generation of players are the first bunch of kids playing for the country. Not to mention, all the kids playing in the team are ACTUAL CHINESE PEOPLE unlike the SA team full of desi uncles. Its a good thing, maybe a bit of encouragement is needed for this young and willing to learn cricket team?
Lets do all that with money from BCCI/indian market who will get nothing in return.
guys like you and manohar are a prime example of type of people who helped india become a british colony.
I'll give you that you are consistent with this idiotic thinking even on cricinfo
Yeah? what will happen if they take it seriously? they have taken basketball seriously for awhile. What exactly has happened?
Agreed. We should cheer them and support them wholeheartedly.Disgusting attitude from Pakistanis and Indians. China is a new nation to the sport and they are developing it from the grass roots. They could have easily had some desis make up their team (remember many are going to China now to study), but they decided to have an indigenous team as this is how the sport will develop.
And desis are in no position to question China's sporting prowess. Dragon wipes the floor with them in 99% of world sports. China wins more medals in one year at the Olympics than India and Pakistan have done in their entire history.

There is no joke.
Ofcourse! Encouragement should be provided, but not by putting them in tournaments where they are out of their depth. Doing that hurts their development and sows the seeds of self doubt. I saw the faces of the Chinese kids yesterday at the hotel and they looked DEMORALIZED.
