In converse situation BCCI wouldn't bully the English players/board or extort a forfeit. We wouldn't care about results, we'd actually have some concern and empathy for the affected squad members. When WI players had a full blown contract related war against their board in 2014, BCCI actually stood for the WI players and allowed them to leave with no bad blood. No strings pulled, no emotional blackmail. In a crisis like this basic human decency entails showing support to the players caught in the mess.

The IPL is important may not be for some of us but for BCCI and from financial perspective it is extremely important and I don't think BCCI wants to get into a situation where you start the IPL and immediately start hearing news of people testing positive. That will be a disaster.

If the reports are true that BCCI avoided this match to ensure the team travels safely to UAE for IPL then its pure disgust. Its a money greedy move which would now harm relations between big 3. Had anyone else other than Big 3 been on receiving end no one would even bat eyelids but its ECB who are stabbed in the back there is noise around this news

Can you pls stop your sly digs at this crucial juncture? Everyone including you know that India were a better team this series. Shane Warne said on SKY that India is the best test team in the world at present after what they have done in Sydney, Brisbane and Oval.
Most Indians are angry with players reluctant to play this test match bcoz they want to prioritize IPL. But that dosent change the fact that India played brilliant test cricket and this was the best test series in England since 2005 Ashes.

India did this to ensure they get their players intact for the IPL with sufficient rest, a week off now. Plus after a two months of cricket in England their bowlers like Bumrah look tired, the opener Sharma is injured.... and now they do not have a physio or doctor. Most of these players after such a long series are literally held together by tablets, injections and duct tape.
A final England-India should play the test again during the bilateral limited overs scheduled next year.

If the physio and doctor tests positive it wont take long for one of the playing XI to get it as well. There is no lack of physical contact in their trade.

True, Plus even the losing games, England won most sessions only to have a brain fade at crucial moments. It's been one of the most closely fought and entertaining Tests series in recent times. Brilliant cricket all round.
Sincerely hope they put up a fight in Australia. Test cricket needs such rivalries, been too many meek boring surrenders of late.

Now, how does the ECB deal with the financial consequences? If they cannot recover the $$$ losses, will they take legal action against BCCI?

Is this official? Also, why is the ICC getting involved? Aren't these tests up to individual boards to schedule and coordinate?
These are money spinner tours so BCCI is making sure that it regularly visits Aus and Eng. Also fans have understood that there is competition within NZ, AUS, IND and ENG playing each other. So we will see these teams often playing each other.

Agreed under normal circumstances but these are strange times. World test points are in question + the money ECB would lose due to this cancellation, they will look to reschedule this and that one off test would be a MASSIVE spectacle. England fighting for pride and India trying to keep their victory intact, what a brilliant game this will be. The only downer is its in friggin Manchester, the city has a tendency to summon rain at the most crucial moments.
Everyone is high on emotion because of how intensely and closely this series was fought. Some idiots are crying racism here, RIDICULOUS! Imagine if the Aussies did this after a 2-1 lead, the anger among England supporters would be 10 times as much.
Plus England have a lot to lose as well, they are the favourites heading into the T20 world cup. You have Buttler, Woakes, Bairstow, Malan, Moeen.... in this squad. They need to be fit and fine and not get infected before the World cup.

Seems like a fair and reasonable solution would be to box off this series by playing the 5th Test next summer. This could happen at the back end of the India white ball tour. There are ODIs and T20s played throughout July, with the final T20 being on July 31st. The first 17 days of August are then empty in the England diary, ahead of South Africa's arrival. So if India are free then too, we could have the rearranged 5th Test in that window.
