Ukraine war: Putin suspends Black Sea grain exports deal

President Vladimir Putin has said Russia is suspending - but not ending - its participation in a deal that allows safe passage to vessels carrying Ukrainian grain exports.

Moscow pulled out of the UN-brokered agreement on Saturday, alleging that Ukraine had used a safety corridor in the Black Sea to attack its fleet.

The UN says there were no ships inside the corridor that night.

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the deal would be honoured and accused Russia of "blackmailing the world with hunger" - a claim Russia denies.

Despite the fallout, 12 ships left Ukraine's Black Sea ports on Monday, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February, its navy imposed a blockade on Ukraine's Black Sea ports, trapping about 20 million tonnes of grain meant for export inside the country, along with other foodstuffs such as maize and sunflower oil.

But in July, a deal between Ukraine and Russia was brokered by Turkey and the UN, agreeing to resume grain exports through the Black Sea ports.

On Monday, however, President Putin said the deal was being suspended, citing the "massive" drone attack on its fleet in Crimea that he alleged Kyiv was responsible for.

He said maritime safety must be ensured and that implementing grain exports under such conditions were too risky.

"Ukraine must guarantee that there will be no threats to civilian vessels," Mr Putin said in a televised address.

Kyiv has not admitted responsibility for the attack, saying Moscow had long planned to abandoned the internationally-brokered deal and used the attack as a pretext to do so.

"In conditions when Russia is talking about the impossibility of guaranteeing the safety of shipping in these areas, such a deal is hardly feasible, and it takes on a different character - much more risky, dangerous and unguaranteed," the Ukrainian president's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Russia's withdrawal from the deal has been condemned by the US, who said Moscow was "weaponising food".

The EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, has urged Russia to reverse its decision, saying jeopardising the export of grain and fertilisers would impact the global food crisis.

The Russian ambassador to the US has rejected accusations that his country was exacerbating a global food crisis, saying it was unfair to criticise Russia.

The suspension comes as Russia says it has expanded its evacuations of the occupied Kherson region, despite stating over the weekend that these had come to an end.

Millions support Russia POV on social media, and highlight the hypocrisy of Western governments, and I am referring to Millions of non-Russian living in the West, both public and government officials, and said people are under no threat of any prosecution.

Any threat of civilian prosecution is merely a threat and bully boy tactic within itself because Ukraine is losing the war. Also, to note, such threats were never mentioned when NATO invaded Iraq and Afghanistan illegally and committed war crimes when destroying infrastructure and killing innocent civilians, when millions in the West were supporting the illegal war.

When America was committing war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, many people supported it. Americans were even proud of their troops. Where was the talk of prosecution then?

Yup, I can see western propaganda accounts getting savaged on social media, they have banned Russian news sources but they cannot ban millions of people speaking truth. Most of World population supports Russia and this has baffled the racist, genocidal west.

The west was so blind with arrogance that they never saw the world changing around them, just 20 years back they could have bullied all countries to stop trade with Russia but now many countries are strong enough to laugh at them. Which is the reason why Western Government apologists are crying. Not only are they getting a taste of their own medicine, but also losing control and influence on the rest of the world whilst exposing their own duplicity.

What hurts said people the most isn't so much Putin is winning, but rather the fact more and more nations are supporting Russia.

70+ years of Western anti-Russia propaganda has failed, and the West cannot accept this fact.

Places like Belgorod used to be in Ukraine, not Russia.

And the long-term solution looks like being that Russia needs to lose its land on the Black Sea completely.

This would guarantee the security and territorial integrity of Moldova as well as Ukraine, and leave Turkey as the dominant local power.

1. They requisition the nicest houses for their officers, and trash them.

2. They let the soldiers systematically steal every washing machine in the village, and any other valuable devices that they can find.

3. They help themselves sexually to any women they find attractive.

It’s not exactly How to Win Friends and Influence People.

It’s how Russia manages to turn the people they pretend to be liberating into implacable enemies.

The Russians have conceded Kherson to Ukraine.

The Russian flag has been removed from public buildings, all military checkpoints have been abandoned and they have removed Potemkin’s body - which suggests that the Russians may plan to flood the city.

Russia now has lost its last significant captured city of the 2022 invasion.

They have lost most of their soldiers and best equipment and have virtually no new gains to show for it.

Ukraine is currently being destroyed on a daily basis. Most dont have electric and the winter is coming. Russia will turn Ukraine into a dark land this winter while taking out the little forces left.

These people do not realise what is happening, the electricity situation itself will be game changer. General Armageddon has destroyed 40% of Ukraine's electricity generation within a month, when this figure reaches 80-90% in the next two months not only the Ukrainian army will be massively affected and this will also lead to exodus of refugees to EU, already most of them are at the brink and full capacity, the domestic backlash will be massive.

Add all the newly mobilised Russian troops reaching the frontline, it will be a massacre as best of Ukrainian Army is already dead, even the western planners know this fact that is why they are trying outlandish things like dirty bombs, attacking black sea fleet with British help etc.

Its time now you accept Russia is not losing, which you stated with glee 6 months ago, along with accepting Russia has plenty of missiles, which you claimed ran out months ago.

Time to accept a peace deal where Russia keeps its new lands and Ukraine joins EU, is needed.

Iran To Sign $40 Billion Deal With Russian Gas Giant

Earlier this week, Russia and Iran agreed to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Tuesday.

“We have also agreed to remove all barriers that exist today on the way of developing bilateral trade. And we are talking about reducing barriers at the borders with third countries. We have agreed to conclude an agreement on a free trade zone between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union in the near future,” Novak said at a Russia-Iran forum.

Volunteers are appealing for warm clothing and blankets to send to Ukraine as the cold winter sets in.

Somerset Aid For Ukraine has been collecting donations at Bridgwater Town Hall to send to the city of Kharkiv.

Many of the group's volunteers are refugees themselves and are worried for family members still living in Ukraine.

"At the moment we are sending aid dedicated to Kharkiv. The people there need warm clothes for men, women and children," said Galyna Tryndyuk.

The group is asking for items such as sleeping bags and thermal clothing, which they aim to transport to Ukraine in a lorry within the next fortnight.

Latvia: $21,482
Lithuania: $24,032
Russia: $12,173

I guess that's what happens when the rich siphon off all the money to themselves.
 
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused the Kremlin of resorting to "energy terrorism" as Russian troops make few gains on the battlefield.

Mr Zelensky said 4.5 million people were without power following Russian attacks on its energy network.

In recent weeks, Russia has carried out large-scale missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian power facilities.

The strikes come as officials say Russian troops are likely to withdraw from the key southern city of Kherson.

After suffering a series of painful defeats on the battlefield, Russia has stepped up attacks in recent weeks on electricity infrastructure in cities away from the front lines.

In just the last month, a third of the country's power stations have reportedly been destroyed, according to President Zelensky.

The Ukrainian government has been forced to urge the population to try and use energy sparingly as a result.

"Tonight, about 4.5 million consumers have been temporarily disconnected from energy consumption," President Zelensky said in his nightly address on Thursday.

That's just not true is it. You want Ukraine to accept a peace deal that goes gives Russia vast swathes of Ukrainian land.

All NATO and its supporters want is for Russia to return to its 2014 borders. Nothing more.

Whilst Germany, UK and much of the collective west shoots themselves in the foot by trying to move away from Russian energy, other smarter nations are moving towards it. It's cheap and reliable (if outside forces don't blow up pipes) and they have it in abundance.

2022 will be remembered long into the future as the economic suicide of Europe.

Precisely.

NATO refuses to let Ukraine negotiate, instead they keep pumping billions and billions into the country. Russia are the only ones who wanted to end it quickly with negotiations. But with all that support from NATO they have no choice to but to extend and escalate the operation.

Do you want Ukraine to lose all of their soldiers and ruin their infrastructures?

"Fighting to the last" doesn't seem like the best strategy.

I find it amusing that people like you do not even mention peace or progress to peace. I guess it highlights the bias you have too.

No one likes war (other than those who profit from it), but your words would have more value and gravitas if you actually favoured NATO pushing for peace rather than funding this war at the tunes of Billions. And yes, evil man Putin has reached out for peace, but NATO forbids Zelensky from negotiating.

I guess when someone takes such pride in the deaths of others it is the work of NATO.

Right... can we explain this AGAIN.

NATO wants peace. It wants Russia to return to its 2014 borders. If that happens, we can all carry on with our lives.

Is it unreasonable to expect a country to stick to its borders?

The war is getting prolonged because America and UK keep on instigating and arming.

Ukraine and Russia need to come to the negotiation table. That's the only way this war can end.

Both sides have an unpleasant far-right component but the Azov "Nazis" surrendered to Russia who then returned them back to Ukraine.

So either you don't know what happened to the "Azov Nazis" or you are deliberately spreading falsehoods about the "Azov Nazis".

Either way, you are using lies as a dishonest pretext for the unlawful killing, raping and pillaging by the Russians in another sovereign nation.

Context is important. Check why this war started in the first place. Check who provoked it.

The number of times Putin requested talks, prior to the annexation of Crimea, prior to Russia's defiance of NATO aggression, is all but lost. Minsk treaty was all ready to be invoked. NATO members renaged.

NATO are simply not interested in peace, just war, aggression, and lies.
