In the words of the mighty Benaud - "Morning everyone!"

It's a lovely spring day here in London. Currently 13 Celsius, warming up to 20 C by mid-day.

No cloud cover at present with dry air, so the bowlers will not get much orthodox swing after the shine goes off the ball.

Expect another dry Lord's wicket which both sides will find hard to exploit until the ball starts to reverse.

A good toss to win, and bat first.

Always good to see cricket at Lords. I hope for a good contest which NZ win by an innings and 400 runs.

NZ have won the toss and elected to ball first....

Kiwis need to take full advantage of conditions early on, keep the ball well pitched up to cook and co and do some damage early on.

NZ going with Guptill and a debutant there as well in Matt Henry....

Betting odds

England 2.19
Draw 3.35
New Zealand 2.90

Interesting

Finally, some proper test cricket. Cook should be back in the pavilion soon enough and I wonder if KP would have anything to say about that.

:45: I though ANZAC Day was last month? Hobbit fancier.

For some reason McCullum has chosen to bowl. I think that's a mistake.

May morning, Lords, Holding and Bumble on commentary and Test match cricket.

The summer is here.

I'm glad that Wood has been picked. We need a bit of fresh blood in the bowling.

Stokes is still below Moeen on the scorecard which suggests that he will be called on to do a lot of bowling. I'd bat Stokes at six and use him in short fast bursts to rough the batters up.

It begins...

Lyth out with the most faintest of nicks to the keeper.

Cook's edges are batting extremely well here. Continuing its good form.

Moeen should have been dropped for Rashid or Taylor

Concur on Rashid, who might get clobbered but might also bowl some wicket-taking deliveries. All the wickets are going to be dry this summer.

Moeen is more suited to ODIs at this stage in his career.

Neesham ahead of Anderson and Milne or any other pacer instead of Mark Craig should've been the way to go IMO.

Balance was struggling against boult even in WC. Huge wicket for NZ. Get Root and the tail starts :)) .

This is going to be an interesting game, love the NZ pace attack.

Nz team looks sooo much better on paper... Gonna win this series surely

NZ worked that brilliantly, peppered England's off stump and then a bouncer out of nowhere.

Hard to see where a triple centurion could fit into this lineup

Cricket at its best. Tune in guys if you miss those magical spells of 2010.

Brilliant bowling and here's Root to hopefully get England out of the mire.

It's a good thing these batsmen trust each other.

To be fair, that was against a side that had not won a FC match in two years and dropped him six times.

Though Bell now has two runs from his last four innings.....

If this is the best, I'd hate to watch the worst.

Mediocre losers who can't hold a bat getting destroyed by a better team. What's there to see? Batters poking and prodding interminably and getting dismissed nonetheless. Sheer incompetence and nothing more.

Brilliant stuff from NZ here... Loving their cricket off late :)

Meh go back to watching your DLF Maximums. This game matters.

Was getting all exciting about NZ being on top then i heard Shane Warnes voice enter the commentary box.

He's got serious cahones McCullum, bowl first straight up on an away tour without his bowlers being acclimatised....and it works

Since I watched NZ perform really well against Pakistan it's been evident for some time they are a quality side. They will be too good for England in this series I reckon. They like these conditions.

Runs of the board: 48
wickets lost: 4
trust lost: 0 (all that matters)

Poor by England playing with only 3 specialist bowler out of which one is debutant...moen bhai should be dropped and is only on par with hafeez v 2.0 with his bowling and neither is a good batsman..

Hmm, cool and overcast now.

England tend to be rubbish against NZ, which is odd because they are such a similar type of side.

Warming up a bit later, by which time NZ will probably be batting, and then we'll see what Anderson has to say.

Love the star sport's promo of this series...
The men who invented crkt vs the man who r reinventing it :)
