Ajinkya Rahane (104*) leads from the front as India reach 277/5 on Day 2 of 2nd Test vs Australia

Shane Warne has a good game sense. Have you heard him say how much lead is good on this pitch.

It's not easy to get 100 plus lead. Only Ashwin is left to bat. Rahane has to score big for 100 plus lead. Aus is bowling well and I think it's possible for them to pick up the last 5 wickets within 40-50 runs.

1) you do understand when we say 25+ the mimimum is 25 and not maximum? He scored 159 last innings in Australia, highedt score by an Indian wicket keeper

2) No other batsman including sachin, lara, kohli, Williamson has done that in Australia

3) At that batting position, a 25+ score is a 50+ partnership and match winning

As i said, keep crying about a young talent

It's not impossible.

If the desperation is there, it's possible.

10 overs of old ball.

And new ball while bringing the risk factor, also brings scoring opportunities due to its hardness.

Many a times, new balls gives runs faster than the old ball.

Yesterday, posters got scared of a 5 over period and started talking about how its impossible to score runs against thie Aussie attack. lol.
 
Ashwin the bat for once shouldn't be a waste of space and put a value on his wicket.

Rahane and Jaddu fighting it out.
 
Credit to the Indian batsmen. Their resilience tired the Aussie bowlers a little. But I think once they get the new ball, the Aussie bowlers will bowl with venom again.

India should add 30-35 runs in next 10 over after that new ball can rip through Indian batting in 3-4 overs

It's surely possible, but India needs to bat really well to get that.
 
They are bowling Starc and Hazelwood now. They should bring in Green and Lyon so that their main pacers get rest. As I type, Lyon comes in. India should look to add 40 runs in these 10 overs.
 
If he gets to 100, this will be Ajinkya Rahane's greatest test inning in my opinion. Truly a captains knock under immense pressure with added responsibility.

Wicket has slowed down a bit. Problem for India is that Jadeja barely did any bowling and now we wish we had played the extra batter.

If we have a good lead, we are gonna turn MCG into an Indian style test match.

Not if we end up batting last which we most likely will. I'd have liked our batting lineup to just make Australia bowl a lot if ocees even if the runs weren't coming but that's simply too much to expect.

I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised and happy we have Jaddu once we have the lead.

It's the lead that matters.

Dharamasala test we batted last too but when target is too low, it's ok.

Of course, we can't do a Dharamasala here. We defo need a sizable lead.

Wih a lead, we gonna go for a hardcore spin choke I think.
 
Aussies just need to keep it tight till new ball.

I hope you are right but I just want to see them bat a lot longer. Have never been a fan of playing on batsman short. Especially not when we are playing Gill as well.

2 spinners allows us to attack.

Plus if one of them suck, it's not game over.
 
Still a long way to go. Ideally a 100+ lead is match winning but we can easily go 5/15 against the new ball with our school boy tail.

PItch is slow.

Turn isn't slow right?

Cos if turn is slow, it's actually hard work for spinners.

Ball will turn but wickets won't come easily as bats can adjust.

Have to keep it tight and wait for mistakes. Jaddu's forte.

It's swinging so hoping for pacers to do the job.
 
Good now we can persist with both Ashwin and Jadeja. That solves our all-rounder problem and allows Pant at no.6 the freedom to take on the bowling as he will most likely bat around the 50-80 overs period with the old bowl in SENA conditions.

It seems Rohit will replace Mayank in next test though.

Yeah that's what I meant. I want six batsmen and Pant at 7. Jadeja has been bowling pretty poorly since the Windies tour last year. Ashwin has bowled a lot better. The bowling has been pretty good even with 4 bowlers and Bihar could have been fifth. But we need runs from somewhere.

Under 120 we can Chase bcz every runs score by us , Australia will get immense pressure & they can't have all players for catching due to low run to defend

I mean 5 batters plus keeper.

4 bowlers means 7th bat is a pure bat.

I am asking has the 7th bat (pure bat) ever played a crucial role? It's a psychological safety but is there actual safety?

We lost Southampton cos Ashwin screwed up.

Had we had both spinners, we would have won Edgbaston and Centurion. Maybe even Southampton.

Last time in Aus, 7 bats + 4 bowlers worked great cos neither Ash or Jaddu screwed up in any game. Plus pacers were sooo on point. This time, we have an Umesh who is mostly useless lol.

With jaddu being good at batting, I would happily have him over 7th bat

Even if he keeps it tight with the bowl, it would help us as there won't be easy runs.

India will be chasing less than 100 in the last innings. Aus is getting exposed here. sadly with the fielding also
