Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said Arsenal would be long-term Premier League title contenders, before the two sides meet in the top flight on Sunday.

Arsenal, who finished second behind City last year, are unbeaten in the league this season.

Guardiola's side lost to Wolves last weekend but are one point ahead of the Gunners.

"They were the biggest rival last season and will stay there for a long time," Guardiola said.

Asked if Arsenal would be title rivals this season, he added: "Absolutely, along with Liverpool. To analyse contenders, the idea is the first 10 games. We have to wait but big clubs are always contenders.

"Arsenal is back. When I was a young boy and starting as a manager at Barcelona I know they fought Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United team.

"Then for many years they were not there but now they're back.

"When you see in the calendar it says you go to the Emirates [you know] it's a tougher one."

Arsenal have lost their past 12 league matches against City and are without a top-flight win in the fixture since 2015.

However, they beat Guardiola's side in the Community Shield on penalties, and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is confident his side can match that result at Emirates Stadium.

"My only worry is the quality of the opponent and on Sunday we have to be at our best for 100 minutes," Arteta said.

"That's what we can control and we need to focus.

"In these big games you need big players with talent who make it count. Duels are a big thing in a game which can go one way or another."
 
Arsenal need to win the midfield battle and take their chances. Defence has to hold up and a draw not the worst result in the world

Midfield battle is only won if Arteta picks Partey, Rice and ozil-gaard turns up for once.

Pick havertz or Vieira in midfield Arsenal are getting smoked for 13th PL game in row vs city

It's onus on Emirates to kick up a fuss unfortunately. Remember, Arsenal signed a sponsorship deal with Visit israel some years back

Crychenko is just a attention seeker, also club won't don't anything as it doesn't suit there narrative. Club wanted ozil so that's another reason they went against him. Club has no morals when it comes to this stuff
 
I believe Zinchenko has deleted the post but I never liked Zinchenko on a personal level and he's the biggest liability in the team.

He always came across as overly dramatic, fake and an attention seeker.

I hope Timber takes his place when he's back from injury and Zinchenko is sold in the summer.
 
I mentioned it a few posts ago about this guys agenda.

I can't wait till the day he leaves my club. I hate that he is there. I hate his arrogance saying Russian athletes should be banned and he wouldn't shake their hands. I'm remaining calm or else I'll end up using expletives.

Arsenal need to act or else me personally, I am finding it very difficult seeing this guy play for a team I've supported before he was born and be able to back and support like I have done. His post has really done me.

Add the fact that if arsenal win a trophy of any sort you know he'll be hogging the limelight with his tears and flag.

Nelson and ESR should leave in January, if they can get game time when players are injured 🤦‍♂️ moving out best attacker out wide is just dumb

It might gives us control in midfield, but City will do what they did last season. Give up possession and look to press on 2nd pass in transition. That means we can't afford any sloppiness from jorghino or faketearschenko.

Also Jesus and Nketiah will get limited chances so need to be clinical

With everyone apart spurs dropping point so far at top. We need at least a point from the game if not a win

If Arteta swapped out Jorgino for Partey, I would've been happy with the team selection today.

As much as I dislike Zinchenko, Tomiyasu was disappointing against Lens and didn't put a strong case to be selected today.

Doesn't make a difference to me, both were total passengers in the first half. Martinelli on is all that matters.

If you are not going to play Jesus in the Center then it is always recommended to play Haverts and not Nketiah as your CF.

Haverts has height, game reading and presence. Nketiah is extremely mediocre

Arteta isn't intelligent enough to realize this. He's basically forcing nketitah or haveryz into team no matter what
