I just don't get it. Kohli debuted in Australia. Look at him now. Azhar could've debuted against WI. He would have more captaincy experience than Kohli did going into Aus.

Good for him! I really hope he keeps it up match after match otherwise he can't just keep playing on our team because he is taking untimely wickets here and there once in a while. Look at how many runs he gives away.

Amir doesn't have any support with the new ball. He was successful with asif because they have similar skill set and would compliment each other. Bowling dots and setting up batsmen helped the duo out and that's why they were each successful.

Babar Azam was a batting all-rounder before he started to play internationally. Shafiq was like a part-time leg spinner. Pretty easy to pick who to bowl.

You need excuses to keep your people in post. By that logic, Azhar should have been sacked the day he came with 0-3 from Dhaka.

Rubbish excuse - Captaincy is learned through the process, not from experience. A player with 10 years domestic experience will start from scratch for a different set of bowlers for National team. By the way, Azhar will be inferior continuation of Misbah; besides, PCB will risk the only player scoring consistently now - let him play & bat, just bat as long as he can without the added load of leading a struggling side. In history of cricket - show me one batsman Captain who has led a struggling team & managed his batting. I can name one - Allen Robert Border, one unique piece - unfortunately Azhar is not ARB.....
 
Yasir bowling too flat .... should flight some more. He is easy to put away without a flighted delivery.

What PAK now need is TIGHT 30 overs - keep AUS under 2.3, they should lose 3 more tonight.

This is just poor bowling from Pakistan, they look so toothless.I hope Ali & Babar atleast score some runs which will get Pakistan a draw maybe ? losing 3-0 to such an inexperienced aussie side is pathetic............ These aussie kids will get massacred in India in the coming series ahead....

Since he is not quick enough, he has to be very accurate to be lethal with his bouncers, and he is quite clearly not good enough to be so.
 
PAK made a blunder of not picking Asghar - Imran is struggling even on day 1.

Pakistan's batting is so majestically strong that Inzamam could leave out a 32 year old whose twin centuries three weeks ago won the QEA Final, whose real age is 32, and whose prior Test scores on this ground are:

108 and 21
71 and 21

You don't get to play the "this is the best we've got" card or the "we aren't good enough" card when you choose to exclude your GOAT Batsman at this ground to pursue a vendetta.

I have been understanding your indignation better over Pakistan selection over the past week. It's been a mess since that last test against WI to going undercooked to Nzl. They haven't even given themselves the best chance.
 
Somehow Pakistan is still in this: new ball due in 10 overs.

Looking at Imran's FC stats & here his bowling, I can only say that AUS club cricket has better back-foot player than PAK domestics ......
 
Both Butt and Asif would have failed on this tour, like everyone barring Azhar and Shafiq (to an extent).

I wish they would have been picked so that the myths associated with them would have been killed off.

Yes he is.

But he has a better record at the SCG than the people in his position.

Omitting Salman Butt for an SCG Test but picking Sharjeel instead is like dropping Dave Warner and selecting Ronald McDonald instead.

The same is true of picking Imran Khan instead of Mohammad Asif. Imran's pitch map today looks like what you get if you give a toddler a crayon.

Asif is just as slow but Every Single Ball Is On A Perfect Line And Length.

Imran Khan's pitch map today is possibly the worst ever seen in a Test match in Australia. He's all over the shop.

batting is least of pakistan problem now , we have scored two 400 plus scores in the series. But the bowling has got them all out once only.
 
People act like Salman Butt would have been the savior of this Pak team from looking at runs he made more than half a decade ago. Cmon now.

Besides, Pakistan have been getting scores above 400 only because of Azhar and Asad. If they fail... I think you get the point now.

yah but bowling is worse and thats the point. We no longer can hide behind our bowling and keep claiming in interviews that we have a lethal bowling attack.

Sharjeel can't win. If he scores 250 and 150 - which I'm not expecting - I will just point out that Salman Butt would score more.

On a serious, non-trolling note, I must confess this.

I have been consistent in saying that I wanted Asif and Butt back for these last nine Tests outside Asia in the last six months. I think Pakistan with them - and proper preparation - would have won all three series in England, New Zealand and Australia.

But I don't want Butt going forward and I'd only accept Asif because the options appear to be Imran Khan or Sohail Khan.

And my fear now is that - as we saw with Krishna Srikkanth and Dilip Vengsarkar previously - Salman Butt's absence from these endless away defeats has a terrifying chance of returning him to the captaincy.

Thats where you lose all credibility, if Butt and Asif had of played then Pakistan would have been beaten a much more easily, it would have been terrible for Pakistan watching Butt fail after failure and Asif getting thrashed all round the park. Afridi would be a better inclusion than Asif, Asif is way to slow and unfit, on the second day Pakistan would virtually be a bowler down.
 
As Ian Healy just commented: "the captain is the worst culprit" in the field today.

Misbah is out there, but he has already checked out mentally and while this team supports him, they clearly have lost confidence in his ability to marshall this team.

How does that work?

Salman Butt's technique has always been perfect for Australia which is why on this ground he scored 108, 21, 71 and 21.

He is eleven years younger than Younis and ten years younger than Misbah.

And just scored centuries in both innings of the QEA Final.

On what basis do you think he'd have failed here? And isn't playing against Asif in the nets every day the best preparation a Pakistani can have for facing Josh Hazlewood?

Salman Butt has never in his life been consistent in even 2 series. There is a reason he averages so low. Just because he had a really good one 7 years ago does not mean he will repeat it. Even in his prime he as very inconsistent which had nothing to do with his technique. There are many, many examples of Pak batsmen having mind blowing series followed by complete inability to repeat it ever again. Nasir Jamshed is a prime example.

Anyways, batting hasn't been the major problem this series

I disagree on both counts.

Firstly, Salman Butt was consistent in Australia and presumably would be in South Africa too. He scored well over 200 runs in two separate series in Australia.

Secondly, you forget that Pakistan posted over 440 in an innings in both Tests, combined with a collapse in the other innings in both Tests.

Australia's bowlers have struggled just as much on these wickets. But they have won both Tests because Pakistan have very old totally past-it batsmen at numbers 4 and 5.

It's Pakistan's batting that has underperformed.

Because I have watched a lot of cricket, just because both Renshaw and Warner have scored hundreds here today does not mean that everytime Australia play here they will both score hundreds.

Besides that If butt did or was facing Asifs 120km/h thunderbolts in the nets prior to the match Starc would have yorked his middle stump out before his bat finished is upward lift.
 
Gotta feel for Misbah, he's goin out with a 0-3. His captaincy stats are gonna take a hit, and it's ashame he couldn't win or draw 1 test even though we had a good chance in our first two games!
