India had a remarkable day, recovering superbly from a precarious position of 33/3. The resurgence was led by Rohit Sharma and Jadeja, who forged an impressive 204-run partnership for the fourth wicket. While it's acknowledged that the pitch eased out, and batting conditions became favorable, both batsmen rightfully deserve credit for rescuing their side.

Earlier, India faced significant trouble in the opening hour with the dismissals of Jaiswal, Gill, and Patidar. The decision to send Jadeja in at number 5 proved to be a wise move. Rohit, who had promising starts in the first two Tests, finally converted it into a century, though he fell to a short ball, providing England with an opening.

Debutant Sarfaraz showcased great composure, reaching 50 off 48 balls. However, his eagerness to push Jadeja to a century resulted in a run-out. As England takes the new ball, they will aim to bounce back after a good night's rest.

The other centurion of the day, Jadeja, familiar with the home ground, played a pivotal role. His performance will be crucial for India as they aim to reach a total of 450-500 tomorrow.

England will take the new ball in the morning and blow open India's tail.
Or
India will use the pace and bounce of the new ball and cross 400.

Which one will it be?

I don't think India can reach 400 from here .new ball is just taken and Pacers will get help at the start of day .
Sarfaraz run out was big setback for india.

1st option likely to happen

Sarfaraz run out was big setback for india.
Don't believe in jadeja when he resume batting he always get out early

Jadeja needs to score big and make up for the messup he did yesterday in the final hour.

No Axar to save India with the bat. This is where he comes in and scores valuable 40-50 runs with the tail.

Siraj is waste of space on this pitch. One pacer is enough for this pitch. Dravid simply cannot think out of the box. In the 2nd test, Mukesh was a waste of space. Washington sundar should have played.

Bro normally does not add much to his overnight score. He will nick one to the slips early I fear.

Ashwin and the rest may not add more than 20 runs. I feel Ashwin should bat up the order. I trust him more than Gill.

WICKET! Yadav c Foakes b Anderson 4 - India 330-6

Anderson with the breakthrough!

He goes round the wicket to India's nighthawk who nicks off behind to Foakes who takes a simple catch.

Subdued celebrations from the seamer, there's still a way to go.

WICKET! Jadeja c & b Root 112 - India 331-7

400 looks far now.

Jadeja was looking for the drive but instead top-edges it back to England's part time leg-spinner.

For me, that sarfaraz run out was the turning point. He could have smashed his way to a debut hundred but things changed drastically since he got run out. 400 looks far far away now.

Ashwin got to bat like he usually does in home tests.

Umpire signals five penalty runs for running on the pitch which means England will start their innings on 5-0.

Ashwin and Jurel and not taking unnecessary risks. Patiently looking for scoring opportunities

Wood looks tired - next Test not much gap & he Jimmy both might be rested - English bowling is going to be real ordinary at Ranchi ... 381/7

50 run partnership between Jurel and Ashwin. Slow and steady now.

Jurel has impressed me. Bharat can leave the team now please.

India 388-7 at lunch looking very good in this test match

Not many runs in the session but lost 2 wickets. Ashwin and Jurel holding on for now.

He has already given far better account of himself than Bharat ever did.

Jurel has looked very assured on pitch despite short ball trap set for him by Stokes.

Yeah, they could have batted with bit more urgency but they've flattened England bowling attack especially the pacers. Hasn't been easy for them to bowl in this heat.

Now if can add another 100 runs from here, they'd be totally demoralized.

Very far from here though.

The really key dig in this match is England’s first innings. For some reason I feel like it’s going to either be a potentially match winning 550 or a very likely match losing 250.

Ollie Pope took some blinders when fielding close in to the bat in the first Test of this series but, now at midwicket, he has shelled an absolute sitter

Great to see Ashwin batting well. He is basically play Axar's part as a handy lower order bat. As a bowler, Axar is nowhere near him.

This partnership is already of 70 runs and the dropped catch by pope will hurt them even more.

Another one goes down - and it's the captain Stokes who is the offender, of all people.

WICKET! Ashwin c Anderson b Rehan 37 - India 408-8

Finally a breakthrough and catch has been taken.

Very sloppy fielding from England since lunch. Dropped catches and mistakes are a part of cricket, but that was disappointing. Anderson almost fluffed yet another one there but completed the catch in the end.

few keeping low after lunch ... wonder if they Bazball from start . 51 overs left in the day - 409/8

WICKET! Jurel c Foakes b Rehan 46 - India 415-9

Jurel departs, four short of a debut fifty, which will be a source of frustration for him. But he has batted very nicely.

Those two drops from Pope and Stokes end up ultimately costing England just the 14 extra runs... Foakes eventually snapping him up, taking a sharp caught-behind chance off an attempted cut.

India hit with a five-run penalty in the Rajkot Test

India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was deemed to have run on the protected area of the pitch during the first session of the second day of the Rajkot Test.

In the 102nd over of the India innings, Ashwin pushed the ball into the covers region and attempted to take a run by running down the pitch. However, he was sent back by his partner, Dhruv Jurel. The on-field umpire Joel Wilson spoke with the batter and then signalled a five-run penalty.

This means that England will start their innings at 5/0 when they come out to bat.

India had already received their first and final warning when all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had been warned for running on the pitch on the first day of the Test.

Law 41.14 deals with the situation of a batter damaging the pitch and Law 41.14.1 states:

"It is unfair to cause deliberate or avoidable damage to the pitch. If the striker enters the protected area in playing or playing at the ball, he/she must move from it immediately thereafter. A batter will be deemed to be causing avoidable damage if either umpire considers that his/her presence on the pitch is without reasonable cause."

Law 41.14.2 describes the procedure to be followed in the first such occurrence, which is a warning to the batting side.

"If either batter causes deliberate or avoidable damage to the pitch, other than as in 41.15, at the first instance the umpire seeing the contravention shall, when the ball is dead, inform the other umpire of the occurrence. The bowler's end umpire shall then warn both batters that the practice is unfair and indicate that this is a first and final warning. This warning shall apply throughout the innings. The umpire shall so inform each incoming batter. inform the captain of the fielding side and, as soon as practicable, the captain of the batting side of what has occurred."

Finally, the penalty is prescribed in Law 41.14.3,

"If there is any further instance of deliberate or avoidable damage to the pitch by any batter in that innings, the umpire seeing the contravention shall, when the ball is dead, inform the other umpire of the occurrence.

The bowler's end umpire shall disallow all runs to the batting side return any not out batter to his/her original end signal No ball or Wide to the scorers if applicable. award 5 Penalty runs to the fielding side. award any other 5-run Penalty that is applicable except for Penalty runs under Law 28.3 (Protective helmets belonging to the fielding side). Inform the captain of the fielding side and, as soon as practicable, the captain of the batting side of the reason for this action. The umpires together shall report the occurrence as soon as possible after the match to the Executive of the offending side and to any Governing Body responsible for the match, who shall take such action as is considered appropriate against the captain, any other individuals concerned, and, if appropriate, the team."

India are currently in a strong position in the Rajkot Test with a healthy total on the board. The five-match series is tied at 1-1.

437-9. Looks like a match winning total.

Indian bowling attack is far better than England, Surely England wont cross 275

Team India was penalized 5 runs yesterday after Ashwin was caught deliberately running on the protected area of the pitch. It has become a habit now 😃

WHy cant they declare and bowl instead od exposing SIraj and Bumrah to injuries.

So the sooks have already started to sook! At least wait for England innings to start.

But then, those souls need something to chew on if England isn't able to defeat even this Indian team.

England need somebody to get in like Pope in Hyderabad and make a big score. Root and Bairstow have been rubbish in this series so far and owe a lot of runs.

Too many boundaries being conceded by Siraj & Bumrah.

England started well against India in the 1st inning. 31/0 at tea. They will take it. But IMO, they have given 70-80 more runs then they would have wanted to.

England should look to score 750 in 5 sessions. And make India bat on 4th day with 300 behind

Sir Alastair Cook, speaking to TNT Sports:

"India certainly haven't batted England out of this game. If they'd have got 550, 600, they couldn't lose from that situation.

"England are still in it. Though it will require a very special innings to get them up to that total...

"Crawley got two starts in the last Test - two scores in the 70s - and for England to win this game, someone needs to turns those 70s into 100, 150.

"They can't look too far ahead. There is enough in this wicket to give India hope."

Smashing Kuldeep and siraj for fun. Good to see such a positive approach from english batters.

This is pretty exciting stuff to witness. Duckett dealing in boundries

As ever the key moment is going to be when the Indian spinners come on. This could easily be 3 wickets down in next half an hour.
