What's new

England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

Not much movement or swing but our openers will still find a way to get out.

You can see the difference between board and ball, board is focusing on control, ball is going little all over the place, letting batters settle, 2/3 loose deliveries per over...

That I can't tell - last time I recall at Lord's (before that August '10 Test), Watson & North took 6fers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PAK batsmen has unique quality to unleash beast out of part-timers.

One dropped - start counting. The side dropping less'll win the Series.

2010 batting line up isn't as good as this one!!!

Hafeez needs to avoid driving to much early on, thats where most of the danger lies at moment.

Like the fact they're taking more of a middle and off stump guard. But a couple of scary moments.

Masood still very jittery, seems like his pad is a magnet for the ball

Ball bowling effort deliveries in order to impress on his debut, Broad bowling within himself because he has nothing to prove, one of the modern day greats.

Four was On. It was a drivable deliviery but Hafeez could not execute his shot properly.

Was a tough chance but in modern day cricket you have to take those.

Hafeeeezzzz now pounce on to the opportunity and make it count.

Exactly.

Dunno why people are asking Hafeez to leave that.

It was his execution that was wrong.

imagine how straight will be wahab in this pitch.. will be the run machine for england.

Different type bowler - if the sun remains like this for 5 days, ENG'll struggle against him. Wahab in short burst can be very good against this ENG middle order. I won't have put Root at 3,rather Ballance there.

Pakistani Openers did there job... already played 8 overs..

In summary a mediocre start by England:
Silly review
Catch dropped
And bowing too short

Great batting conditions.

Ball doesn't look threatening. Will be interesting to see how Finn goes about in this track.

Time for Prof to make it big here.

Masood has conceded defeat against the short ball.

You would think that coaches and player would be working on this weekness but they are not, finn will probably try short stuff at him and also on better pitches for bowling he will be exposed.

Masood is one of those players who doesn't have it in him to survive more than 2-3 good deliveries. It's only a matter of time with him.

It's a demonstration of poor batting talent and not understanding how this is not the UAE

I have being saying this for few years now, Pakistan batting has gone down against pace, worse than ZIM and BD thanks to UAE. this is flat wicket, but UAE is 3x flatter than this[emoji34][emoji34][emoji34]

This is prime reason for us at 7/8 in Odis, you just don't develop any game against pace while playing in UAE.

They probably are working , sometimes the players do not learn enough. The problem against short ball is more of a psychological one.

Masood has conceded defeat against the short ball.

But, I think he is playing well - not hopping & not forced to hook/pull awkwardly. Difference with Raina is that by this time you would have seen leg-side cordon against him. I understand, it's fancy criticising PAK batsmen over Indians, but I don't see anything wrong in his batting - his job is to go to lunch playing 75 ball - going nicely so far. In fact, I would like new ball bowlers to pitch it short to my opener, allowing them leaving lot.

Batting at a good tempo is a natural talent, which Hafeez has in abundance. He finds a way to score runs if he's at the crease.

Hafeez has reached his pedigree score against top sides. Anything above it is a bonus

An hour a day in the nets against wahab and irfan. In sure in a month it can make a difference

Beautifully done by Hafeez. Doubters getting a little nervous here.

Masood may not last the series if he doesn't improve

Relax- he is doing his job perfectly. It's a 5 day match - he looks ugly, but the ugliest player I had ever seen in 1st hour was someone Steve Waugh. One more over & Berbi is out for an hour at least.

I was a doubter of Hafeez for this series. Hope he proves me wrong like he is doing right now.

It is my dream to get to commentate in a match. Preferably in tandem with Rameez.
