England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

The benefit of bowling to oldies , you can serve up half volleys without the fear of getting hit for 4.:misbah

So many LBW shouts, it's like watching Pakistani spinners bowling at England on a 5th day pitch in the UAE.

Aus would have destroyed England if they had been bowling like this and been so sloppy in the field.

Like they did in Lords Ashes.

Anything over 200 is a winning score with the Pakistani bowling attack

Seriously?? England is very very good batting unit and we got 2 good bowlers.

Not watching the match.. is it so bad? Why?!

Hafeez scored some nice shots...but struggled, dropped.

Shan looked hopeless from start but survived so long cos pitch had nothing and Ball was garbage in first spell.

Azhar Ali was solid but looks like he got out to a marginal decision.

Younis Khan has been scratchy but somehow scoring runs.

Misbah (till now) has been the 2nd worst (Shan is number 1). Missed simple balls that could have been flicked for 4.....almost got out to that. Catch dropped of a simply overpitched delivery....head falling over....not in comfort against the rising ball....

All in all....Pakistan are moving at snail pace.

Hafeez for all his faults kept the scoreboard ticking.

So you can see the situation.

Worst batting.

ummm. These old veterans are actually batting better than the talented youngsta beauties.

Have at least survived and scoring so far.

Both are unorthodox though, so are ugly on the eyes.

I see no crying for talented youngsta beauties who have failed. If these two bats are better than youngsters, then God help us.

Not watching the match.. is it so bad? Why?! Score looks alright!

They are just about surviving every ball is interesting.. Streaky strokes or bad deliveries they get boundary of so scoreboard is ticking.. Overall good match to watch for neutral..

Always thought Pakistan's batting is not up to standard apart from Younis, Ali and Shafiq to an extent. They just need 300 on the board. Their bowlers are capable enough to make a match out of it..

Boundary, This could happens when you over attack on pads of a batsman.

These 2 are looking better now. Run rate of 3 is good. They aren't completely going into a shell

Yeah. Surviving and defense is the most basic art and this is what makes batsmen good batsmen.

They need to settle down until they can see the ball like a football.

We have cried enough on them , time for these two especially misbah.

I think here the relaxation in the form of spinners won't be avaliable, don't think Cook will give the ball to Moeen, lol. Deal with the fast bowlers, play moderately.

Doubt it on this pitch.

Unless Yasir single handedly does a demolition job.

This is not an easy pitch to take 20 wickets.

If Pakistan post 450+, its almost impossible for them to lose.

Scoreboard pressure may come into play and who knows something could happen. Worst case, a draw would ensue (unless Pak collapse terribly in 2nd innings).

However the runs need to be put on board.

Teams can't afford to relax even at 150/3.

Brother we are 110/3 atm..

For all we know we will be all out for 150

They will have to bowl him at some stage. Over rate is pretty bad. YK and Misbah need to stay long enough to take advantage of that. Simple equation.

But when will they bowl him? Quick wickets now they can have him on end and have there fast bowlers form the other.

There lies the point. It's all about patience. You need not blow away oppositions in test matches. Attrition would do. Wait and attack.

Anderson ke bagair yeh haal hai tou oskay sath tou in uncleon se khela hi nahi jayega

.

Who is getting relaxed here man?

There was a time when Inzamam and MoYo were our middle-order rocks, now it's Younis and Misbah. What a shame.

Someone show these two clips of MoYo batting at Lord's in 2006 or Inzamam at Old Trafford in 2001.

That is what you call high class batting.

Misbah seriously struggling and missing out on loads of bad balls but he's gotta hang in there. Can't leave everything to Asad and Younis.

If you notice, 2 out of 4 English pacers have been pretty average.

Both sides have their own vulnerabilities.

Who capitalizes more on other's weakness will shape this test.

We've actually done pretty well against pacers only up till now with Moeen yet to bowl.

These 2 guys Misbah and YK are doing well because England are bowling well as well, very few half volleys or short stuff.

They have to be patient and hope the bowlers tire out then cash in.

Yes you are right. Hopefully we can get in a position where Sarfraz can play his natural game

Both the batsmen aren't looking comfortable. But they are watchful. Lets see how long they can carry.

Only Ball is bowling well, the rest have been average. Finn has been rubbish and should have been smashed around.

Folks need to realise that this is not a T20 or ODI - as long as the run rate is 3 or above, there is no reason to complain.

The true nature of the pitch is only known to those who are playing on it and/or once both sides have batted. Relax and enjoy the contest.

Misbah could never play such knocks away, not sure Younis can at this age. Those were sublime.

Woakes is going to make short work of Misbah soon..

I hope I'm wrong though

Moeen should convince Cook to give him the ball. InshAllah he will be rewarded in the life hereafter if he helps his two brothers out here, who are clearly in a lot of agony.

This is an advertisement for why Test Cricket is easier than the other forms of the game.

And make no mistake, these oldies are head and shoulders above the younger men here.

They don't have reflexes, but they don't need to. They are batting at 4 and 5, they won't face the new ball, they will face bowlers who aren't fresh and when they are tired these guys will cash in.

It doesn't matter if they can't hit mediocre balls for four. They can sit all day and wait for horrible ones because there is nothing in the format to make them be positive and defending simply isn't as difficult as it's made out to be.

Trying to be funny and failing miserably
