What's new

England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

Didn't time that one did Younis. Such a shame given how he worked himself in.

Younis Khan's lack of class exposed in the very first innings. He has been extremely lucky that we have played almost all of our cricket in Asia in the last 6 years, and he missed the tours of England and Australia in 2009-2010.

He might be effective even here on day 3, 4. Also even Clarke has owned us on last innings in test

One innings on a super rank turner in 2004....one innings in 2008 where we panicked....is ok.

Moeen however will go down as a black mark in the history of our spin playing ability. I bet even some no name domestic players of 90s would play him far better than what we did in 2014.

I just hope it doesn't mark the point where India descends into spin playing mediocrity. Hope our current slump (against spin) is just a bad phase.

Another one that gives his wicket away. 30's and 40's will not get you much of a score.

Very soft wicket to give away.

England were starting to look frustrated.

No need to gift wickets like that, second one today at the wrong time.

Will you just shut up man. Enough with this nonsense already.

Just stating facts here, I know you are his biggest fan and he's the greatest batsman around in your eyes.

Don't get offended when no offense is meant.

That wicket was due to Younis's tailender technique.

He moved too much so he couldn't control the ball.

His technique was not like this level several years back. Its regressed.

Interested to see how Shafiq does outside Asia. There's not much batting left for Pakistan with our long tail so a big partnership needed here.

Agreed.

His bad technique is now back to haunt him because his reflexes are gone.

With that sort of body posture, Younis is not going to succeed in this tour. He looked really out of sort. Same for Misbah.

Laughable how some consider him to be the best Pakistani batsman of all time. Even seen some clowns seriously argue he is better than Dravid. :akhtar

Massive ask for Asad, who came at such a crucial stage when opposition is dominating.

Usually comes when situation is stable.

No he is not the greatest but your constant rants are getting tiresome. He got out softly but many a greats have been dismissed in that fashion. As for him feasting on dead wickets at least that has made us respectability at home.
I remember days of 90s when despite having likes of Inzi Malik Anwar we use to lose at home regularly.

Perhaps they didn't see him vs McGrath, Pollock, Ambrose and Walsh in 2002. Calling him the best ever is a joke really.

Circumstances allowed him to grab all the Pakistan batting records in Tests, that's all.

No other great Pakistani batsman has had the circumstances Younis has had.

England look like an absolute crap bowling attack so far. Anderson makes one helluva difference.

Pakistan is too nervous. Not surprised by this performance so far.

ROFL you do rile up people bad man.. Some guy might punch you in the face if they ever meet you =))

Pakistan approaching this game like the way they approach a ODI......They need to be a little more attacking like they do in tests in UAE

We can do with a quickfire 50-60 from Sarfraz here. We are going nowhere with the runs and keep losing wickets at regular intervals.

Big test for shafiq today: used to coming with scores of +250 ahead

Yasir is going to be a handful here, especially if England bat last on this pitch.

From England's perspective they have to put the game out of Pakistan's reach in the first innings

Azhar the so called best Pakistan batsman was worst of the lot today. He should be at his peak but YK looked million dollars compared to him.

You've been saying this every week. Can you give it a rest for one day?

And it used to be you who used to chicken out from my posts because you had no response...

Shafiq looks very organized at the crease, better than any Pakistani batsman.

Technically sound and easy on the eyes.

Inzi came to England in 2006 at similar stage of his career and didn't get a run. Yousaf and YK were at peak and scored freely. Now Azhar and Shafiq are at the same stage. Let's see how they fare.

Pak batsmen need to rotate the strike and frustrate the bowlers. Just drop the ball and run for a few singles.

Bowlers will always be happy to bowl to the same batsman as much as possible.

Play dot after dot and then hitting a four will not work all the time.

Asad Shafiq from what I hear is the most technically gifted bat in Pakistan......should thrive here.......Younis and Hafeez were all over the place.

Will he be able to sweep/reverse sweep Chris Woakes, Finn etc bowling nearly 90mph?

No, but he intends to score runs rather than survive. The only other batsman who did that today is still our top scorer so far in this innings and was there for 59 deliveries only.

Regardless of the format, you need to look to score runs. This is the only way.

We have tried to replicate our UAE tactics today and it hasn't worked so far.

First time watching Shafiq seems pretty solid so far.. Better looking player than Masood, Younis, Misbah, Hafeez...

When did that happen? I always replied to every post of yours. In fact I recall that I made the last post in some Younis thread after which you did not reply.

However, I won't be harsh and say that you ran away, because we simply agreed to disagreed.
