What's new

England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

Asad's defense already looks better as compare to all others. Not getting panic at the moment.

PAK's tactics wasn't wrong, but YK failed in execution. Clearly, ENG missing Jimmi, while Moeen is like a breeze & Finn is struggling. This is 3rd spell for Berbi & before 2nd ball, at max he can go for another 5 overs. In that regard, what Misbah is doing in not wrong, but MoHa threw his wicket, Azhar lost within himself (over restricted) & YK simply took it too easy. If PAK could go to 250/4, ENG would have struggled with their limited options. Still can, but ENG has the upper hand now. I don't back Sarfu to average 50 here.

Yeah by fluke. Your pace attack is minnow standard at best. No Pace, No skill, No discipline...

Legendary Mhd Amir and Asif won the same number of tests against England in England as Ishant Sharma and Bhuvi.

We drew a series against South Africa, infact almost won it in South Africa in 2011 when they had their best ATG team with Zak and ..........Ishant and Sreeshanth.

No, but he intends to score runs rather than survive. The only other batsman who did that today is still our top scorer so far in this innings and was there for 59 deliveries only.

Regardless of the format, you need to look to score runs. This is the only way.

We have tried to replicate our UAE tactics today and it hasn't worked so far.

If Misbah scores a 150+ knock playing would you give him credit and appreciate him for being a fighter? Even struggling against pace he managed to streakily survive and score at the end?

Misbah has been an eyesore so far, but I would really like to see sign off with some big runs in this series.

He hasn't scored much runs overseas. It will help him gain more recognition as a Test batsman.

Misbah seems to be late on the ball most of the times. Is it a deliberate ploy or he is just old?

I wonder why Pak batsmen look like tailenders against our pacers with no skill, no pace and no discipline.

Agreed, Pak batsmen are no benchmark though.

Sarfaraz,Yasir and Wahab....Pak batting bats deep.

Amir used to be good with the bat pre-ban but post-ban looks really bad

Like I said in my previous post, I would love to see Misbah score big in this series.

He has been a tremendous ambassador of Pakistan cricket over the years and has been extremely professional in his conduct, it will be great to see him do well here.

He lacks many things as a batsman but temperament isn't one of them. However, he has always struggled to play long innings and at this age, I don't think he has the stamina to get a 150+ score.

He gets out between 50 and 100 very frequently. Doesn't have a good conversion rate.

Looks like a nice flat pitch now. Time to cash in. Misbah needs to score a big one and Shafiq needs to support him well.
England will score in excess of 400 on this wicket.

I was hearing 560, 500, 450 ... sort of score as par for this track - trust me, it's lot, lot tougher than that. Groundsmen has kept so grass on it & it's clearly a double paced wicket. If on Day 1, before lunch, Berbi's ball "squats" like this, it'll be tough to chase 200 on Day 4/5 here.

PAK must plan to post 300+ - it's not a 20 over Cartoon show, there are 3 more innings & lots of cricket left.

Shafiq looking very dodgy here! needs to get himself in before any fancy strokes.

Shafiq is a poor timer of the ball. Keeps missing out on boundary balls against pace.

Other than the cut shot against spin which he plays beautifully, he lacks scoring avenues.

Shafiq looks very organized at the crease, better than any Pakistani batsman.

Technically sound and easy on the eyes.

One of his problem is that he turns around the bat too often, too early in the innings... He gets out too many time, even when set against second new ball... His technique is better than other, he need to play full face of the bat on full deliveries and early on...

Most of our batsmen are poor on out side the off stump, they don't judge it very well... Something we never worked on in 70 years... Playing in UAE is making it worse, because everybody is now too slow to react on, well everything :(

Kohli might have failed two years ago, but based on his current level, he would invincible on this pitch against an Anderson-less bowling attack.

Special mention to Hafeez...only batsman to have showed intent....only if he avoided brainfade to cash in....anyways......he has shown how to bat here against this attack

You just said he is our best batsmen :13:

ahh ok.. well anything is possible and there is always the first.. keep your fingers crossed.

Misbah is a very underrated Test batsman, he can play on any type of wicket and not get flustered at all. He can score big anywhere in the world.

Finn is very talented but lacks the mental discipline. Don't think he will reach the level of Anderson and Broad, but can look world class on his day.

England bowling looks toothless.

Looks like Pak gifted them most of those wickets. Except for Masood who got a very good delivery that had pace and bounce.

Pakistan are doing it right - playing within their limitations. The score represents correctly a bathing line up that begins at 3.

I think he's more of a poor starter. He struggles to initially time the ball and tentatively closes the face. It's the reason he hasn't kicked in ODIs. He's fine after the initial 25 odd runs.

Does Finn have any Indian origin or bloodline him? A very promising pacer who won a few games with brilliance now becomes a harmless and pathetic trundler.....sounds a very familiar storyline

Conjecture

He seemed perturbed by the occasion and conditions as he was struggling against England's lesser bowlers as well

Can't say any thing for sure unless he actually rectifies it next tour which should be easy considering Anderson should be past it and abroad would be in his 30s

Except for Broad, nobody looks class in England bowling lineup.

Moeen only performs against India :))

If England bowling is so bad on a flat Lords track .. then why are we struggling ? :13:

He likes to be unpredictable like our Pakistani team.

Not sure where the confusion lies. Him being our best Test batsman doesn't make him a flawless batsman, since our standards are very low.

He is a good B grade player, not in the league of Kohli, Rahane, Root, Smith and Williamson etc. so far.

They won't replicate a series like that. Asad and azhar are a level below kohli

Tbh, it was a flat patta, but I've noticed that Indians are better on bouncier tracks than Pakistanis. Not so much swing, but given how we're going about it here, one might need to re-assess that statement.

England actually in trouble.

Apart from the 3 main pacers, their other 2 are simply rubbish.

Pakistan can comeback and actually pound them.

Whether they do it is another question.

Junaids

Boss, Misbah has crossed his series target of 46 on 1st innings & still there.

As I said, he has lots of weaknesses, but Character & toughness are not of those. Some kids would like to believe that its a bit easy out there for 5 days, rather than 20 overs, but at least you should know that this game is built on Character - this old guy has lots, lots of that.

On performance, PCB won't be able to drop Misbah before 2020; it has to be his own choice - AND he won't stick there Afridi way - that's the difference in class.

Respect for the old man of cricket.

Hope Babar and Saud can become the dynamic middle-order batsman which we have sorely lacked after Inzamam and MoYo.

Umar and Maqsood etc. are lost causes, while Haris can't get fit.
