What's new

England v Pakistan | 1st Test | Lord's | Jul 14-18, 2016 | Day 1

You know what...with this Hundred and this celebration, Misbah has truly arrived on the International scene as a genuine, bonafide good batsman and a great test captain. Watch English/world press give him and Pakistan team due credit from now on.

after 90 years ..........

Then Anderson would hide the deficiency for a bit.

On pitches like these, 5 bowlers help the main ones remain fresh.

Sometimes you can manage without the 5 but its better to have them.

I agree, Moeen is the weak link, for sure. They need to get Stokes in instead of Vince or something, back Moeen as a top order batsman who bowls a couple of overs before tea and a couple of overs before the new ball. Stokes as the fifth bowler plus Moeen as the sixth should do. England really need to find a proper spinner. Someone like Ashley Giles would do, it doesn't have to be a wicket taking bowler, just someone who can keep it tight. Moeen can't even do that at the moment.

Seriously the stuff of dreams.

Getting a ton at Lord's in the debut test in England at 42 years of age.

Love to hear the reaction from Yousuf and Sikandar Bakht

Sikandar is a "fichel" (Bengali word, don't know identical English or Hindi), so he might skip the program; while MoYo is an imandar aadmi - he might question England's intension - since Jimmi is not there, either way ENG wasn't going to trouble PAK, therefore they might have set .......

He has shut us all down, specially those pushup for all Pakistani fans who talk about his age, including myself!!!

Atherton ' big looking beast... the Alsation i mean' hahahahaha
Sky sports commentary team is always amazing!

Moeen isn't good enough to bat in the top 6. I personally wanted to see Rashid in over Moeen for this test, especially given the much improved consistency he showed in the recent odi series.

Mason Crane is the future of English spin (leggy) in my view but still needs a few years more I believe.

This is crucial phase, not loosing wicket today means 350+ score!!! - They need to see off new ball

It's befitting that one of the most honourable man in PAK cricket should be in Lord's honour board.

& it's ironic that the man who was trusted to assemble the scraps after AUG 2010, is the same man standing today.

Well said. The greatest Pakistani captain after Imran for me

really?
inzamam, saeed anwar?

OK just checked, He's actually the 7th, could only think of Mohsin Khan and Mohammad Yousuf.

1962 Javed Burki Pakistan 101
Nasim-ul-Ghani Pakistan 101

1967 Hanif Mohammad Pakistan 187*

1982 Mohsin Khan Pakistan 200

1996 Inzamam-ul-Haq Pakistan 148

2006 Mohammad Yousuf Pakistan 202

Yeah, Ideally we would like somebody like Hafeez(Nawaz) or Azhar to step up...We don't have allrounder....

Our bowling is good, but stamina will be tested in this match... Our bowling has done good whenever we have bowled well with old ball, which is key in 90s and is today as well!!!
We have a leg spinner that can bowl 35-40 overs in a day so it shouldn't be a problem plus we have Azhar to bowl 5-6 overs to give a break.

Sent from my SM-G925I

So, Cook has planned 23 overs from Berbi on Day 1 (29 out of 1st 101) - may be we'll see another pair of pacer by the time both teams return to London ...........

Past Pakistan bowling was next level.

Another 4, down the ground this time, excellent timing.

Shafiq still has a slightly angled bat when playing straight, otherwise he would look even more elegant.

Shafiq bossing the new ball so far

Let's see how he goes and whether Misbah can kick on

If there's one criticism of Misbah even in UAEin past five years it's that he doesn't go on to get daddy hundreds

How can tell - that on-drive, with straight elbow we used to see few years back, from whom?

Azhar shan and younis will need to bowl

Yea, Dubai wala dead track nahin - on this track, dible-doblies would face same treatment like Moeen. You need 20 wickets to win a Test, & your 3 pacers can bowl 100 overs at full throttle MAX - I don't mind taking 5 bowlers, specially when Jimmi is not there. 2 set batsmen can bat for 2 double hundreds, 3 pacers can't bowl at "pace more than 35 overs each.

They are being overworked massively

Yup, it's why I wasn't worried when people were crying about the strike rate and the usual "they need to be pro active/aggressive" nonsense.

It's day one of a four test series, the plan is hit Moeen out of the attack and wear down the seamers.

Keep demoralising their bowlers. Tire them and then Sarfraz can come and play a quick cameo

Junaids is a great poster but in that other thread he said Misbah will score 40 odd I the series at average of 6. LOL

I am delighted that he is making me eat humble pie.

I'd rather have a close, tense series than be right! Well done Misbah and Shafiq!

Mad Props to Misbah.

I'm also enjoying what Shafiq is doing. They're sending all these balls wide and outside off, and they're both smartly leaving them alone. Exactly what you must do in England.

Will work on these flat tracks I think

He straightens the bat after contact, at the point of contact, its still slightly angled.

Tendulkar was absolute perfection, but it's near to that. It's extremely difficult to drive through mid-on with high elbow & perpendicular bat.

Relax bro, it's just a little leg-pulling. PAK Test side is very good & settled; lots of credit goes to Misbah for that.

It's not just the on drive, even the off side defensive shots have that trait.
