What's new

England v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Manchester | Jul 22-26, 2016 | Day 1

Root looking good here so will hopefully throw his wicket away shortly :)

Ramiz as usual gushing about the opposition..as if he's never seen either of these two bat before..

Not sure where the next wkt is coming from at the moment, apart from a mistake from the batsman.

good batting conditions at the moment. we need to be very very patient here. One wicket could mean two or three..

No need to panic, remember England collapsed from 118-1 at Lord's. Just need to cut down on these freebies.

Pakistan giving away one bad ball an over, not clever stuff at moment

At this stage, we need an Eng collapse. They are looking dominant, not even any plays/misses, or mishits, fully in control

Deep point to Yasir - You want to cut a leg spinner on a pitch that's keeping low? That's not a high percentage shot. If Yasir bowls a rare bad ball, the batsman's eyes light up as he smashes the leather off the ball only to be disappointed as all he gets is a lousy single.

Deep point to Amir and the other seamers - Allows Misbah to put fielders in the slip cordon and encourage the bowler to pitch it up and invite the batsmen to drive with the ball reversing away while keeping the run rate down at the same time.

Don't blindly accept what the commentators are saying and try and think about why a fielder might be in that position. Misbah has proved that he knows what he's doing, there's a reason for everything he does and it's always a little deeper than "He's a great big scaredycat"

How is that man square on the off side covering the drive? Especially with the ball swinging in(this match, like I said last match was a bit understandable with the bowlers balling so many boundary balls).

I wasn't talking about Yasir.

Further evidence for my case is that Misbah had that man up until Rahat bowled two short and wide deliveries and got struck for 4. Not sure if it's up or back for Amir right now though.

And it was my own opinion even in the last game. The commies and I can have the same opinion.

Lastly I never thought that about Misbah. I do believe he is a bit defensive at times but that's about it.

Let's stop now though. It's a difference in perspective between you and me. We'll be at it all day.

we'll rue not making changes to the top order batting order....England bowling and especially Anderson will wreak havoc...this could be over in 3 days. really poor...

Our bowlers need to show some patience here and dry up the runs and force a mistake!

Seriously these kids have no patience for Test Cricket

Be Patient Guys, things will definitely happen

Last over before lunch probably here, England 89/1

Wicket needed here.

England have won the first session. We need to take at least 3 wickets in the second session to make it even.

You want the bowlers to put it outside off stump to get the batsmen driving, in order to have them caught in the slip cordon.

If the bowler drops a bit short the batsman can cut it.

The deep point gives the bowler the freedom to keep the ball that little bit wider and force the batsman to chase the ball outside the off stump. The batsman either takes the risk of playing away from his body to a ball moving away from him, or he can leave it and allow the pressure to keep building and building which makes it more likely that they take risks against Yasir at the other end.

It isn't rocket science.

Yasir Shah bowling pies and releasing pressure.

Not easy for a Leggie on Day-1. Too much expectations from him.

Wahab or Rahat needs to chip in with some wickets.

England 95-1 at lunch.

Good session for them, Cook and Root looking comfortable, going at a decent rate and batting more sensibly.

Poor 1st session with the ball that one, pitch looks good for batting but we have given away almost 1 bad ball an over most of the session which is not acceptable, need to see better bowling in the last 2 session of the day.

Reverse swing is the only hope today it seems

Chill man; England won the toss.

It's test cricket - patient game.

Moving on this has been England's session. Need to get one of them out early on in the next session.

Batsmen should be prepared for the possibility of having to chase 350.

Don't think Pakistan can chase anything over 300, so need to restrict England to something less than respectable this session

Pakistan has to work really hard to get this match to draw; win is out of question for Pakistan

You know it's been one session and England only have 95 runs. Already giving up all hope of a win?

When was the last time Bangladesh won in England?

Oh wait.... when was the last time you even were invited to England?

Wrist slitters galore after just one session.. We have to bat on this flat track as well..

People already writing off Pakistan after the first session on day one. This T20 generation I tell you

If Yasir fails to get much out of the pitch, then England look all set for a 450+ score.

Barring Root and Cook, I don't think anyone in the English team will find it very easy to play out Yasir, spinning or not.

Batting is easy now but Pakistan has to bats last but England not selects Rashid (I do not think Pakistan need to worry of Rashid, his test début vs Pakistan in asia he was wicket less 37/0/146/0 in the very important first innings ,he took 5 in the second.

MOEEN ALI toothless bowler his bowling average is 96 in last 7 test.
