England v Pakistan | 4th Test | The Oval | Aug 11-15, 2016 | Day 3

Most critical day of the series.

This is when it all went haywire for Pakistan during the last test. Pak cannot afford to have a slip like that if they want to draw the series.

Given our struggles in the 4th innings I think the match is pretty much even at the moment.

It was really disheartening to see PPers go after Younis Khan with such disdain and disrespect over the last 3 test matches . . Granted, he hasn't performed and has been horribly horribly out of touch . . but arguably our greatest batsman of all time! 32 centuries . . centuries everywhere in the world (except australia) . . averaging over 50 in all 4 innings of a test match . . centuries against every nation . .closing in on 10,000 runs . . highest average for a pakistani . . average of 58 since 2010 . . I think he has done enough to earn the respect of the nation . . and also done enough to go on his own terms . . ricky ponting failed for 2 years in a row before he finally retired . . Ricky averaged 30 in his last 2 yaers . . His average from 56 came down to 52 . . Please! Let's respect our legends . . Yes, by all means criticize his technique . . by all means criticize the way he has batted . . also interesting to note, he still scored 20s and 30s in the series in such horrible form as opposed to other batsman . . with 32 centuries, he is way ahead of any pakistani batsman . . also, he is the 3rd quickest to 9000 runs in terms of test matches . .

Pakistan has once again let go of a golden opportunity to put this game to bed! They have done it 2 days in a row now!! England should never have made 328 . .
And they have done it 2 matches in a row!

This seems sooo similar to Edgbaston . . this being the last recognized pair, England will be hoping to wrap this up in the next 30 to 40 runs . . extremely disappointing . . they plays so well, and then fail to capitalize on the situation . . All England needs is to get one of younis or sarfaraz, and then we will fold really quickly yet again!

This is a great pitch for batting, so can not expect to roll over england again . .

Unfortunately, this seems exactly similar to Edgbaston!

I hope atleast now Pak fans stop whining about the dropped catches.

England have been even worse.

That's ridiculous logic. So because England have dropped chances that means we stop criticising about the ones our teams drop.

Pakistan dropped easy ones at critical stages of the match yesterday - Cooks one didn't cost but Ali's one did and may prove still to be crucial because Pak could easily have been 100 runs ahead.

I don't care about England's dropped chances, that's for them to worry.

You're a good poster.Post more.

Well all said and done we have to focus on job on hand and hope how we get to ascendancy and level the series. It is now or never

Need to bat out the first session at all costs, even if it takes cheating and get 70-80 runs and then look to attack the first hour after lunch and get 120+ run lead.

Will then need to attack the English batting vociferously - cannot repeat the same defensive fallacies made in the Edgbaston Test with the series on the line.

Good post NauV despite his hundred it was sad to see all the India fans disrespect a legend in Younis Khan who got us in a decent position

Seems like it's overcast today

Not a bad thing for us if we can get 100 lead.
It's our last chance now but I have a feeling we will bowl better than we did second inns at edgbaston .
Amir concerntrate on bowling in swingers to right hinders
Sohail out swing
Wahab - short and full balls

Win or lose we've shown a lot of fight this series - admirable

Shud be a better day for bowling today

It will be because overhead conditions means the ball swings.

However the pitch is still a good one so the batsman just need to player straighter and leave the wide balls.

I hope they adjust.

Btw that Screenshot doesn't take into account the silly-mid off/silly-mid on and close slip dropped chances.

Well that's what Nasser/Atherton suggested [I think :P]

I'm gonna be pessimistic here and negative. I think we'll be lucky to get a lead of 50-60 here :|

Finally no work! Can watch 2 days play.

Nervous ahead of the start need Sarfraz and Younis to bat as long as possible. Would love a 100 plus lead.

We have higher standards than England - never should expect fielders to drop dollies.

Agreed. Catches must expected to be taken by a good fielding side. However the entire series was being blamed on the fielders who dropped those catches.

England has dropped more than what Pak has dropped and so while it shouldn't concern the Pak fans, the thing is that it evens out (or in this case, it has affected England more). Putting all the blame for the match on one player for a single dropped catch is a bit unfair. That said, Azhar has to certainly improve his slip catching. Even the one he caught (I think was Ballance) was lucky..

Big day for the team of my birth today.

But enough of The Roses Match. There's a Test match too. But I actually care more about The Roses Match at Old Trafford.

Don't blame the pessimism at all . . Sense of Deja Vu . . we messed this up just last week! I think we really should have driven home the advantage yesterday . . Oh well! Let's hope and pray we play well today inshaALlah!

So you are also into T20 masala? Well best of luck to Lancashire a team where Waz and Ather played.

It's way more important than T20 - its a 4 day Championship match. I'm disappointed Jimmy didn't put club ahead of country!

Seriously, when I lived in England Roses Matches were televised live in Lancashire and Yorkshire. Big Was used to love it - I remember him massacring Yorkshire with both bat and ball!

I know it sounds ridiculous, but I think that Sarfraz is playing for his career. Outside Asia, at least.

The only way that Mickey Arthur can get 4 quicks and a spinner in the team is by having the keeper move up to 6.

But that requires much more consistent batting performances than I think Sarfraz can provide. I think he needs to score a 50 or 100 every third innings indefinitely to keep the gloves away from Rizwan.

T20 blast finals day is next Saturday with the 4 teams already finalised.

so all these 4 day, list a and t20 matches are happening together? it's getting confusing and i thought there was only natwest t20 blast that was happening from last 3 months every time i check cricinfo schedule.

Last month or 2 has generally been t20 blast and one day cup games with the odd championship game chucked in. Championship games will start to pick up again now with a round of games starting today. Next season there'll be a bit more segregation between formats.

oh ok thanks for explaining. not sure about ECB but CA do a very good job in getting big crowd for bigbash even though it happens during their home series.

Oh dear. Looks like the real Younis Khan is back now there's some cloud cover.

That post shows how little brother Junaids really knows about Pakistan Cricket in General. Azhar, Asad & Sarfraz are the senior pros that will take Pakistan forward come the retirements of Misbah and Younis. These three will become the core of the strategic think tank on field in the next coming decade.

I see Sami, Harris and Saud also joining the former three and that would make a very good top 6 IMHO. Plus Sarfraz is the T20 captain as well so there's that as well !!

Younis is back to square one. He will have to start all over again. Hopefully he can do a repeat of yesterday and score another century

Just leave the wide balls. Please don't waft. That's exactly what the opposition wants.

Agree with all of that. Wouldn't mind if Asad or Sarfraz was the next captain

Cook! You changed Woakes after 1 over. You are not programmed captain but thinking captain. Misbah will learn from you

Average crowd here's probably about 7,000 at a guess. A lot of people criticise it for poor crowds but when you think it through with 18 teams in a country where cricket is tiny in comparison to football I think that's fairly respectable. Finals day was also already a sell out before the semi finalists were discovered apparently.

nothing much happening with the ball there should be no escuses for lead less then 150

Problem we have is that Yasir is out only chance to skittle out England cheaply on the second innings and he has been completely nullified by England now.

In fact Moen Ali looks more threatening than him now

They didn't pick anyone who wasn't from Yorkshire! The legendary TV interviewer Michael Parkinson like many Yorkshiremen living outside the county drove his wife back from London to Leeds just to give birth, just in case. Because otherwise a son would have been ineligible to play for Yorkshire.

My mum's from Yorkshire, but she took no such precautions - I was born in Lancashire.

Even Michael Vaughan was quite a shocking recruit for them, because he was born in Lancashire.

This nonsense was surprisingly common in British sport. In Glasgow, Celtic used to refuse to employ Protestant players and Rangers used to refuse to pick Catholics. And at the recent Euros, the Republic of Ireland football team contained several Northern Irish players who didn't want to play for their own country because they identify as Catholics first, Northern Irish last!

no cheap tickets like big bash? last season big bash had a 80,000+ crowd in a normal match wasn't even a KO match

That delivery broad bowled to Younis are the type of balls I thought Younis would struggle with.
