England lead by 264 runs with 7 wickets in hand . Nothing much to say really , if England get 100 more runs from here which they will , a score of 350 is beyond Australia on this dry surface .
 
London is fully overcast this morning. That will help the Aussie bowlers to begin with but it should burn off by mid-afternoon.

It's already turning sharply. If England can bat the day out I think they will secure a 2-0 lead.

Lord Gower reckons it won't turn into a full-on bunsen, though. He says he never saw an English wicket do that.
 
Really the gam'e gone dull...........we all know it has on result now 2-0

I remember wickets settling down later in the game and in fact the 4th innings turns out to the best to bat. England will need to get a 450+ lead here as there is still plenty of time left in the game.

They overlapped slightly, but these days the wickets are covered so we won't get any of the bunsens that Laker / Lock / Wardle enjoyed.
 
Looks grey & bit cold . lot of fielders wearing sweaters . 268 for 3 & nice bit of away shape from Pattinson .

Bresnan needs to careful and not get carried away playing those shots.

You do not really follow England if you think Bresnan is your typical tail-end batsman. Would you have called Pollock and McMillan from SA tailenders too ?
 
I know it won't affect the match result but still, why open the bowling with Pattinson who's looked so out of sorts?
 
Brezzylad averages 31 from his 18 tests.

If he can get through this morning session then the cloud will burn off and batting will become easier again.

Big opportunity for him here.

That is true but leading the series 1-0 , he would like to be cautious. They could throw their bats around for next 30 overs,run up 100 more & still have 30 overs to bowl .
 
Australia are dead and buried. England may as well declare now so they can have a day off tomorrow.

comparing Bresnan with Pollock? really? What did Bresnan average when SA came over? Coz he looked like a tail to me

England lack flair without their imports TBH, the game is done and dusted someone has to take the initiative here. Boring side
 
Australia have been bowling tight lines. England could have thrown around their bats a bit, but they want to make sure that they set a target in excess of 500. Sensible approach, considering the amount of time still left in the game.
 
Pat Cummins is a huge blow, Aus's best bowler by far.
Take Anderson out of England's bowling attack and this contest would be fairer.

One test is a hardly a look in, it's not like Pattinson and Harris are bad either.

Pattinson is a good bowler, he hasn't been at his best but I wouldn't count him out just yet. Starc in tests is really unproven, so I don't know what hype you're talking about.

I agree with you, but nobody credible ever gave Anderson such a ridiculous level of hype.
 
That was as clean a catch you'll see. Let's blame this one on Dar as well. This is the third time a third umpire has botched a decision in this series. I really feel for the Aussies here.
 
Who's the 3rd umpire? That decision was terrible. Bell was out.

Starc has a lot of potential to be fair. The Aussie quick I see the most potential in is Pat Cummins and it's a shame he has been injured so much so early in his career, but the lad is a natural fast bowler.
 
That's the problem when there are only 4 umpires to choose from.
 
can Australia chase anything over 300? The Australian batting reminds me of BD some years ago.

The top order would collapse and the lower order would provide some resistance, but at the end we would still end with a sub-par score.

Exactly.

Rhino and Pat would be a brilliant new ball pairing. They're easily the best bowlers in Aussie.
 
There was doubt. It was half-grassed, half-taken (with 1-2 fingers) therefore benefit of the doubt goes to the batsman. Don't understand why the commies are being so critical of the 3rd umpire

Paddy's played the one first class game in the last two years for a total of 5 in his career.

He's not best anything.

A genuine world class talent though.
 
England are doing well they might just save this game, oh wait...

Lead 400. England need to grind another 100 runs before going bonkers. Straussy right in pointing out that the pitch does not deteriorate. 600 would be great
