What's new

India [145, 49/0] roll over England [112, 81] inside 2 days with 10-wicket win in 3rd Test; lead 2-1

Long spell by opening bowlers Ashwin and Patel here. :smith

Commentators have been given their scripts it appears.

The techniques against spin and the pitch have been equally bad. 17 wickets by mid-Day 2 and you downplay the role of the pitch ?

* correction 27.

Now 28 if this review is upheld.

India won back to back series in Australia where some team get destroy every time when they visit

which is the point i made earlier... there was no need for the pitch to be like this... they wouldve done just fine as a reasonable surface

Nonsensical match. Lost 1000 Indian Rupees bucks even after picking Ashwin as captain.

Old saying was:

If Lillee doesnt get you, THOMMO WILL.

Current saying should be:

If Ashwin doesnt get you, Axar WILL
I have only heard of Wasim don't get you Waqar will.
In this match it also applies if Leach does not get you Root will lol.

Yes the batting has been atrocious. However this pitch has spun more than even typical Indian surfaces when you look at the numbers.

C4 showed a stat that Day 2 pitches in India have produced average turn of 3.4° since 2016.

Day 2 has offered 4.9° of turn.

I'm all for home advantage but not taking to extreme where part-timers take 5-fers and top batsmen can't lay bat on ball. Not denying poor techniques either.

There is no doubt that it's not a typical Indian pitch and has too much spin too early.

India can prepare any pitch which they want .same for every team .if you're good enough to win anywhere then you're best .Indian team never make pitch excuse when we play abroad

Its one thing to have a spin friendly pitch which naturally becomes difficult as days go by and I think its the right of host countries but, its completely another thing to have a pitch where a match wont last even two days possibly. No offence but, its really difficult to defend such a wicket where both sides are struggling and a part timer ends up with extraordinary figures.

Yes batting hasnt been great but, pitch is obviously spinning and both the stock ball and straighter ones come into play in the first two days itself.

I'm all for home advantage but geez, this is taking things to a whole new level. The only thing left to do is paying off the umpires at this point.

Agree. Summed up well.

The pitches in this series have been terrible. Just has taken all the joy out of the series.

What a downer after the highs in Australia.

This was given after 1st test.

Eng's last 4 innings have been mirror images more or less.

Pitch is turning big. Nothing easy about it, but if you play like a headless chicken then you are going to worse. Just like certain skills are needed to play on the bounce, seam, and swing.

Unless uneven bounce can cause injury, all difficult pitches are fine.

I cant judge anyone on this wicket its a lottery

Guess commentators are not allowed to discuss pitch coz stadium is named after current PM

Weird wicket.

But doesn’t look like there are many players who can actually play spin in this day.

Couple that with the few players capable of adjusting against movement and it looks quite bleak.

Mostly white ball greats these days.

You can surely judge their footwork. They may not score big, but you can see if they have the skills to play on big turners.

Yup. The scary thing is that most Indian viewers are now conditioned to agree with everything they are told.

You could tell the commentators literally got the memo from the producer before that segment to defend the pitch after 1.5 days of ignoring it.

Harsha is the only one keeping his integrity intact. Sunny's criticism is fair given he was a master of batting on bad wickets, but even he's toeing the line.

Disgraceful pitch and one of worst test matches in history of game being played here.

Root is as good as they come from SENA countries but even he struggled... Really cant judge its a pure lottery

Yes, they havent changed their approach a bit or have adapted much. You would expect better planning, strategy, application or atleast something different than what led upto failure from a top team. Struggling against spin especially on such tracks is understandable but in a 4 match series you have to evolve within the series itself and as you said Eng are just mirroring their last 4 innings.

Sunil gavaskar said the pitch is fine so no one else can say anything..Indian fans logic.

Gavaskar is on the payroll clearly not going to bad mouth the pitch, even Stevie wonder will tell you this pitch is shocking with dust exploding everywhere, 99.9% of pitches do not behave like this on day 2.

Strong indictment against the pitch when it’s only 49 to win and there is still a chance that the chasing team might lose.

Respect to you guys.

England's spin techniques are awful indeed, but the seamers didn't bowl a single ball in this innings. Home advantage is part of Test cricket, but this is extreme.

Don't like it when England or New Zealand produce surfaces indistinguishable from the outfield either.

Everyone blaming pitch but all are straight ball wickets.
I cant understand whether batsmen are unable to play or issue with the pitch.

What a promoting of fast bowling culture by Indian captain not a single ball from them all innings.

2 day test ***

Learn to play spin better and for gods sake prepare 5 day pitch. This is giving no respect to paying viewers

Yup. The scary thing is that most Indian viewers are now conditioned to agree with everything they are told.

I am not sure about that. Everyone I know is badmouthing the pitch. Some won't do that in front of outsiders but they know its a waste of a test match.

I cant understand whether batsmen are unable to play or issue with the pitch.

Do you understand why not a single ball was delivered by fast bowlers?

I’m sorry but if a test match between two proper test nations finishes in only 2 days then that’s not a sporting wicket, regardless of who’s at advantage.

Everyone blaming pitch but all are straight ball wickets.

Of course its the pitch.

Disgusting by the Indians.
Poor poor advert for the game. If you wanna seek instant gratification do it elsewhere. This is a game for the purists.

IPL'ising test cricket. Test Cricket should not be a lottery. This match is.

On spinning pitches, the arm ball or the straighter one is what gets you because batsmen play for the turn. Some balls are turning square as well. Axar’s darts were unplayable.

Both team might aswell just play another match on same wicket for next 3 days and make it a 5 test series ;)

This is credit to England tho, they had India this rattled t home that India had to resort to preparing this type of pitch, I’m sure India could have won with a more sporting pitch.

It's been a weird pitch because the wicket at Chennai looked far worse with all the explosions and from day 1, I knew it was a minefield.

I'm outside and so not watching today but watched the match yesterday, and seeing the pitch, I didn't get the feeling it was underprepared as much as the pitch during the last match since the top was holding together well on day 1 and not exploding like it happened at Chennai. I mean I knew it was a turner, but more of a 250 par turner than a 100-150 par wicket. Yet 600 runs were scored on that Chennai wicket but this seems and plays like a far worse wicket that it looks. Looks like the pitch is bone dry.

The bold part is true, but many fans are missing one thing here.

Eng's last 5 innings when the ball has been turning,

178
134
164
112
81

Now you can simply give up when the ball turns big. Have some skills to make at least 200+. Yes, Eng batted well on flat conditions in the first test, but it has been a poor display as soon as the ball has turned.

Indians have been poor as well. Less poor than Eng, but Eng not having experienced spinners allowed India to score 600+ in the last test.

Channel 4 host is looking bit worried that the match will be over in 2 days. They are bound to lose ad money for 3 days of cricket. :(

Everyone blaming pitch but all are straight ball wickets.
I cant understand whether batsmen are unable to play or issue with the pitch.

Straight balls become the really effective on surfaces which are spinning as the batsmen keep on fearing for the ball spinning. Its difficult on such surfaces to predict out which one is going to spin and which one will keep straight from the same length.

When it turns big, you play for turn and miss straight ones.

Terrible pitch but difficult to say the curator really expected it to play this way from the way it looked on the first day.

Poor techniques against spin from both sides as well.

NZ wickets are pretty dead these days.

England is the home of seam bowling so the standard wicket will be a slow seamer.

Won’t get there. Two day test. Absolute joke wicket.

Was looking forward to this - first ever D/N Test on free-to-air Test in England. Play starting 9am so perfect for the viewers, huge opportunity to introduce cricket to a new audience with the lockdown.

Ah well.

I haven't woken up so early in months. Did for this match, lol

I don't think I've ever seen a wicket where batting has been as unplayable as this one all across the world. Even that minefield wicket at the Wanderers in 2017 had 4 days of cricket if I remember correctly.

The only one I can remember close to this game where batting has been nigh on impossible is wayy back in 2002 when India toured NZ and the Indian innings finished before I even woke up. Daryl Tuffey was unplayable that series and was doing what Axar Patel is doing here. Remember a lot of double digit team scores that series.

I like low-scoring Tests, but this one is going to be completed with less than 400 runs scored.

(My ideal is around 1000 runs in four completed innings in a Test).

I actually feel sorry for the Ahmedabad authorities, who thought they were showcasing the world’s biggest ground but who are now a laughing stock for having produced the world’s worst pitch.

Will the ICC have the courage to remove World Test Championship points for this travesty?
