Flat pitch with a little grass and India batting first. Looks like an innings win is coming up.

Won a toss after a long long time against aussies in india probably after 7-8 tests

Was just wondering why isn't Murali Vijay playing? Is he injured?

O'Keefe's balls are coming easily and at good pace on this pitch (no turn, no flight). Very easy to score, but the batsmen are just trying to be cautious!

Lot more confidence in Indian batting and such a good quality pitch. If not for the bad memories from last game there would have been lot more fluency in the batting and less nerves.

Okeefe is such an ordinary bowler, we gifted him 12 wickets last test

Need to just play him as a slow left armer, not much spin and it's straight most of the time.

Watch out for his next spells under the sun, when even his zip of the ball is lost! Jadeja, Ashwin and even Saha would be waiting for their bats this time! Big total coming up!

Another fluent Rahul innings. Let's hope he improves his nerves from innings to innings which has been his weakness so far...

I must say Smith has used his fast bowlers very intelligently so far. Giving them short spells, instructing them to go all out at Indian batsmen in those and bringing them back after a few overs of rest; seems to have worked.

Just watched 3-4 balls of Lyon.

Wow.

What a bowler yaar. Flight, turn and bounce.

Its a mystery as to why he isn't more successful.

Shudder to think what Lyon would do to Rahane.

We are basically batting with 3 bats now - Kohli, Rahul and Nair.

Pujara and Rahane are no more our long term Test prospects. They are not the newcomers trying to get settled and fight nerves! God to slowly get rid of them with proper replacements (1 or 2 overseas tours, if they fail, that's it)

Not convinced with Pujara's game against off spin.

He played Lyon better than Rahul except for the last over. He should have stepped out to Lyon like he was doing previously in this innings. I think it was survival on his mind which led to him playing Lyon on the crease in the last over.

Smith has been too defensive with his field placings...
I first saw that at Brisbane against us.

His issues against Lyon go back to a very long time.

Tries to always get on front foot instead of judging the right length and staying on backfoot when the need arises. Before he got out, there was another ball which could have popped up but it didn't.

Didn't see Rahul. Commentary says he was lucky too.

He plays good shots and has his stroke of luck.

Kohli getting out leaving to the spinner twice in a row.

I thought this is brain-fade for 1 match, but its for the series! If Australia can somehow bat out of their skins in the 1st innings, they can again shock India! After winning 2 matches (especially losing the toss in 2nd match), they shouldn't care about the series! That's some achievement coming into this tour...

Need to make sure they dont collapse from here.

90-3 shouldn't be 160-10..

Kohli gone :)

India need to score 300 in the first inning and game over for Australia

We should be worried about getting out within 150! Looks very much on! (Poor Rahane and Rush of blood for Rahul! Nair's real essence will be checked in this match!)

australia will win this test and series easily
indian team is low on confidence after that thrasing

Getting demolished again I notice.

kohli scored only flat pitches uptill now in tests

Why the hell he should leave the ball! He is not Rahul Dravid (who could judge the pace & turn of the pitch in minutes). His game is to make contact with the ball and score runs (as in LOIs)! India is surely missing a good batting coach here!

Looks like even the sudden appearance of the great snakeeye5 isn't going to save India from getting humiliated at home this time.
snakeeye5, sorry bro. Every streak has to end at one point of time. :sanga

Kohli is an average test batsman, certainly not a great let alone ATG. Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Gavaskar are all much better test batsman than Kohli.

Smith >>> Kohli anyday

So how's the pitch playing guys?

Kohli has about 8 years left in his career and the fact that you are already comparing him to the three ATGs as well as Asian great Sehwag means that he must be doing Cery well. There's a long way to go and he has achieved more than most do in their career

I do agree that Smith is superior to Kohli at this point and by a fair margin

I hope, after watching Lyon on 1st day of this Test, nobody ever will try to justify why Maxwell should replace him for his batting ......

He's doing alright. Kohli is already an ODI ATG but he's very overrated in test. He is weak to both quality swing and spin. He got exposed in England and now India's spinning tracks. I am not calling him flat track bully but Dravid and Tendulkar were better than Kohli at this stage. Sehwag too. Kohli needs to fix his issues if he's ever to become a test great.

No wonder England got pasted even on friendly pitches with their army of bits and pieces players.

I don't understand people blaming Kohli for all of this. He averages 50 after a good 56 tests which is not bad. The only reason he has failures is because he always plays his natural game. Never plays according to the situation. A rich mans Shahid Afridi when it comes to batting. However, if he tries to change his game, it'll affect him too much for him to ever be the prodigy he is.

There are 10 other, overrated players in the team who need to perform too. Lokesh and Rahane being the biggest of them.

Time to rest Rahane for next 7 months.

Bring him back in SA in Nov this year.

Lyon bowling pies but getting wickets thanks to the pressure o'keefe create

Not really a fan of Lokesh Rahul, if I were to be honest. He always looks so vulnerable to getting out. Maybe its just me but he lives on the edge. Gets a ton of chances every innings he comes good.

This is the crucial partnership in the match! It stands between Indian defeat and Victory/Draw

Mitchell starc is probably the biggest under performer . This guy has everything to be an ATG, height pace bounce inswing outswing great yorkers reverse swing. If he improves on his accuracy, he will easily be the best bowler in the world.

250 will be a fine total if Indian spinners bowl well here.

Rahul shouldnt miss on a century here. Its there to be taken.

Thank God! India did the right thing by picking 6th batsman! At least 200 is assured now... Otherwise even this match would have gone the Pune way! (Did you guys noticed this? It was exactly at around 90/3 mark that we lost the plot in previous matches)

India should stick to 6 batsman playing against good teams even at home (and always in overseas except WI)! It is at extreme flat pitches and average opponents that India should go with 5 bowlers ensuring there is no "draw". Because the quality of top order batting is not great (We are in rebuilding stage. I don't think Rahane, Vijay and even Pujara will be in future scheme of things!)

Nair throws it away. No need for o jump out of the crease .

To me the pitch is similar to Pune pitch except the uneven bounce.

Ball is turning miles already. It's only day-1.

BCCI does not learn. Indians cannot play on big turners. Lyon was giving a good rip each time he bowled

This is pretty embarrassing stuff from India. It seems playing home series after home series have made us overconfident and arrogant. Bangalore is the place where michael clarke helped australia beat india in 2004.

I think it is safe to say that we can only play well on flat wickets. Pakistan would crush us on a wicket like this or pune.

No, if Tahir, Rashid, Bishoo could dismantle Pakistan on those dead wickets, imagine what Ashwin, Jadeja can do to them in India. Pakistan are overrated as well against spin.

IMO, this is another rank turner minus the uneven bounce.

300 can be a match winning total here in the 1st innings.

Nair looked like the best batsman of the lot until the rush of blood.

India will be lucky to score 250 here. Our tail cannot wag when the ball is turning square.

India should have selected Kuldeep in place of Ishant.

Pacers are useless on this pitch. 3 spinners would easily get 20 wickets.

If Starc and Hazlewood cannot get wickets, what will Ishant do?

How on earth did we get crushed by this Indian side.

They're bog average.... we must really suck... fpalm

The SA's will bury this Indian side.

A combination of mental fatigue, complacency and an Australian team who have had the humility and sincerity to prepare well
