India v England | India win 4th Test against England by an innings and 36 runs in Mumbai

Pitch is still good for batting.

Don't be fooled by a few wickets due to some tight bowling and some poor batting. Very very hard to contain runs on this pitch.

Need to stick on and march on.

India 345/6 (111.2 ov)
India trail by 55 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
V Kohli 81 (163b 9x4 0x6)
RA Jadeja 20 (24b 2x4 1x6)

Kohli is in amazing form, it's tough to determine who the best is between him and Smith.

After the Aus tour of India, will get some idea of who the better batsman is. I expect Smith to the highest run scorer for Australia though.

In tests,

Smith
Kohli (just behind)
Root (scores runs but too many soft dismissals)
Kane.

In ODIs,

ABD
Kohli
Root
Warner
De kock
Smith
.
.
Kane.

In T20Is,

No comparison. Kohli is head and shoulders above everyone.

Kane is is behind plenty of batsmen in Tests and more than 20 in ODI's. Gets too much credit for the soft runs he scored in Aus.

In tests, I had that order only for those 4 players. In ODIs, I considered other batsmen as well.

I'll take Kohli at the moment across all formats. Kohli has always been a terrific LOI batsman but I noticed a change in him during the knock at Indore against NZ. Normally he sort of plays too many balls he shouldn't be playing and that made him a bit inconsistent. But I saw Kohli being as patient as he has ever been in his career during that knock, which was actually the only thing lacking from his game. Nowadays he is very happy to leave balls outside off stump and doesn't jab at them like he used to in the past.

The only slight concern maybe is that he is a bit of a compulsive puller and sometimes attempts pulling those angling away which has been his downfall a couple of times against Johnson and Wagner across various formats. But other than that, it's incredible how he makes difficult surfaces appear completely easy. Like I said, Smith is a fantastic batsman but Kohli just appears more assured to me at the crease than the former. And I know you are fed up with talk of technique, but I'm a firm believer that a batsman with a better technique will always shine through more and I think Kohli has a very good one.

And Jadeja predictably throws his wicket away. We need patient and long knocks from Jayant and Bhuvi here.

At least bat out until stumps.

I always knew a collapse was around the corner. But we could've put England under the cosh by taking a 100 run lead with the start that we got. But crawling to the target is always our style.

Well played Kohli ,good time to get a ton, looks like he is back to his excited self.

Amazing knock by the skipper especially the last 45 runs :hundred

Hopefully he takes us to a 25-50 run lead.

Signature cover drive for :4: don't give it away now lad, stay there.

We need Kohli to continue and get a 150 here. Both Jayant and Bhuvi have very good temperaments and can hang around on this pitch.

Jaddu's quick scoring really helped us.

But he gets out the same way again and again.

That's his weakness and biggest scoring shot too.

That extra bounce saves batsmen and helps them get into good positions to score.

Put the same turner on a low bounce track and scores will be halved.

Nair doesn't realize that he would be thrown out if Rohit comes back should work harder on his batting,Rahul has taken his place for granted though.

If w can win here, Pant deserves a chance in the final test.

I shudder when I think Rohit will bat at 6 for India.

I don't trust him at all. We need a proper bat.

This innings is a masterpiece in so many ways. Could probably go down as one of his all time best

I was thinking the same.

It IS an ATG innings.

The shots, the way he paced himself, the way he is manipulating the fields, the way he is controlling the game.....just wow stuff.

Jayant averages 70 in Test Cricket.

What a find for India.

With that 4, Kohli has officially entered the elite 50 averaging test batsmen.

Superb batsmen.

Legend in the making.

They say Tendulkars are born once in a generation, but this guy has the ability to eclipse him and become even better.

That's the worst shot by Kohli whole day.

Here's how BBC described it -

Kohli continues to demonstrate all the supreme skills in his locker with a rapid readjustment to steer a rising Anderson ball to third man. A lesser batsman (ie. every other batsman) would likely have been undone by that.

King Kohli indeed.

2K Test runs as captain
50+ avg in all formats.

If Jayant can score a 50 today and remain not out, he will average 100 in test cricket.

England is heading towards another defeat, they cannot save this test match now! Only hope is get the remaining wickets in not more than 20 runs tomorrow! Still they have to bat and bowl out of their skins in the 2nd innings.

Not on par.

But just below it.

KP's knock came on a tougher pitch. Towards the end, his assault of Ojha (our best bowler) when the pitch started going BONKERS remains imprinted in my mind.

The 186 is haunting,My colleague then had remarked about how he is never going to forgive Indian team for losing like that :)) even if they beat Aus.

Only one way to describe that knock in Tamil....

"Thaar maar adi"

Absolute terror it was.
