Below part total. England needs at least 50 run lead to make a match out of this.

I made my prediction in your thread. England win by 50 runs.
First target must be to get to 300. Concentrating on the 400 too much might result in a collapse.
Lol, sorry. The pitch is obviously offering quite a bit and India's middle order's weakened with Rahane out. So there's vulnerability and inexperience there. Scoreboard pressure of 400+ is always on your mind. It is a confusing total because you aren't sure whether to shut up shop or play positively. This can result in miscalculated dismissals. If India can get 200+ with 3 down or less, they'll be back in the game. Otherwise England will remain in the driving seat. On a pitch that's only going to become tougher, it will take a historic knock/partnership for them to win but they can still save the game due to England's lack of spin threat.Yeah...was expecting more details...like elaboration on it....so I asked...
Uphill task for India no doubt.
English bowlers in run saving mode with new ball!
An Indian win is still a possibility. The way the openers have started. No trouble against the spinners so far. Lead of a 100 is possible.
Rahane himself is vulnerable and a liability under pressure at the moment.

Rahane is injured I think. Vijay is off-color too.
Paul Reiffel has had brain injury it seems![]()
Reverse jinxing attempt detected.
Eh?
It's a turner where 360-370 is a good first innings score. England have got 400. Batting with a scoreboard pressure when the ball is turning and bouncing is extremely difficult, especially when you know that the only way you can win the match is by getting a lead, even if it's slender as you have to bat last when the pitch will be at its worst.
Couple this with our team condition - Vijay, Rahul out of sorts (one of them dismissed already) and pretty much a debutant in Nair. Leaves our line up depending heavily on Kohli and Pujara to score runs. Batting with 400 on your mind when the ball is turning and bouncing will lead to a collapse anyway. India should bat with 300 as the target and anything above as a bonus. That will be the better approach to get anywhere close to 400.

Kohli and Pujara are the prize wickets as they're India's best players under pressure. Imperative one of them scores a ton.
Yeah...our lineup does look shaky. Lot of it rides on Kohli and Pujara. For some weird reason, I have trust in Nair. Haven't even watched him bat yet. Haha.
Super pressure innings this. If you shed the mental block, there are lots of runs for the taking in the first innings. 2nd innings will be too hard.
You can trust Nair. Solid Solid bat. Can change his game to match the situation and condition to perfection.

But the cushion of lower order batting (which is clicking) is somehow negating this fragile top order batting. The top order knows that even if they reach 150-200, the score can be taken to 350, 400. And the bowlers will be more effective in the 2nd innings giving not more than 250 at the most! This ploy is working (regardless of toss) so far! But I am sure this will affect once we play quality teams overseas, at the same time our batsmen will gain some confidence once they play a weaker teams at home!
Vijay plays the same on any pitch. He leaves/ blocks the ball a lot even on Indian pitches curtailing his scoring options, game never moves forward fast when he is at the crease![]()
Actually if I think about it...Rahul is not out of form.
Over-confidence and all round buffoonery. Someone needs to have a talk with him about his shots which have been happening for a while now.
Yes, Poojara surprisingly looks lot more positive than him! (Poojara now reminds me of Justin Langer of Australia in the past!) Slowly it looks as if he is ready to vacate his spot to someone else (Age is also moving up! He is 32! By this time he should have been lot solid and certain about his batting) He has underachieved even compared to Gambhir!
This is how a proper test match crowd looks and behaves in a traditional venue. Lively atmosphere in the ground, Mumbai rocks![]()
Yup. Great atmosphere.
Mohali was painful to watch.
Mohali shouldn't be awarded a test or a major LOI match.
His state opener is breathing down his neck fast.
Averaging 67 this season with 3 tons, 3 fifties and a 99 in the ongoing match.
But what he has done (doing) in this match will secure his place for some more time (been doing it through out his career) May even score a sedate ton here! But we know what he's going to do in next 5 innings!
Big day tomorrow. India would want to end the day at 340/4 or better.
Indians have to bat ridiculously slow for ending at 340/4. I think you have to bat around 2 runs per over and score 180-190 runs in entire day.
England's spin attack in Test cricket is just frickin awful. Probably the worst out of all Test playing nations. Filling the team up with 9 batsmen without a single quality spinner isn't gonna help even on a rank turner especially against a batting lineup like this.
We need to have a particularly strong morning.
It could happen.
These two are looking great...
Vijay has played 3 loose shots after his 100.
This is why he is so inconsistent.
The moment he is off the pressure to score, he becomes a touch careless. Needs to change this attitude.
3 loose shots after 100....wth.
That is what grinds me the most.
Never aims higher and gets happy with just an eighty or a hundred. It's why his career average gives a lopsided impression.
