India v England | India win 4th Test against England by an innings and 36 runs in Mumbai

Hameed and Jennings presenting the England selectors with a real dilemma now.

Wow England really scoring fast.

When Jaddu himself gets carted, you know its a good pitch to bat.

Interesting challenge.

Oh well done Mr Jennings!

This is a difficult tour for England but we have got a couple of new batters. I would go for:

Cook
Jennings
Hameed
Root (capt.)
Bairstow
Stokes
Moeen
Butler (w)

Root doesn't strike me as captaincy material.

Bairstow maybe..

This is actually the first turner of the series and England are playing extremely well. Ironic given that they struggled on two flat wickets prior to this match. Maybe the Bangladesh series is reaping its rewards.:yk

Potential turner.

Not one right now. True batting surface as of now. Even domestics were high scoring.

Pitch is doing stuff.

Gotta get wickets before it acts like a moody gf and changes its nature. Hehe.

Just half an hour back, it looked like a flat track with English batsmen having fun.

England will be disappointed. Bairstow and Ali got out to poorly executed shots, its all on these two now.

Why are the other 2 spinners not getting good turn?

One more wicket would be amazing here.

I think if you can keep out the odd balls and play off a tough 3-4 over period, there are runs to be scored.

I expected England to collapse but a bit more but then I expected the pitch to be more tougher to bat.

I expect India to bat at 4 rpo here. How many wickets they lose will depend on their application.

Lmao look at Kohli's reaction to Jadeja wasting the review.

Our guys need to understand what is umpire's call first before reviewing everything.

Kohli should never take Jaddu or Ash's opinion seriously and just ask others.

Haha.

It was a bad review honestly. I knew it would be mostly not out. Outside off or impact on umpire's call was very likely.

I seemed to me that more than half the ball was hitting the leg stump. Isn't that out?

Where do you this match is heading?

Even stevens for now.

In my opinion, India comfortably placed though the general opinion could be England scored on a tough track (which isn't true...they scored on a good surface for the first 2 sessions....excellent batting but wasted a great opportunity in the last session).

Tomorrow if England get bundled out for 350....we will get a solid lead. If they score 400....we may have to fight more harder but we will match their scores.

Lots of runs can be scored on this track if you can just play off the tough periods.

For example, 5-10 overs back, England were struggling to even get going but towards the end of the day, the pitch looked fairly easy to negotiate. The side that handles the rough period well will score lots and win.

Pietersen and Cook in 2012 did just that on a pitch that was MUCH harder to bat than this.

All 3 spinners got turn, Jadeja got the most. This pitch is turning more on the 1st day than UAE pitches do on the 5th day, Yasir must be wishing he was Indian :(

I wasn't talking about that....

Actually this pitch has more turn on Day 1 than Vizag and Mohali had on day 5. Mohali didn't even have variable bounce.

But Indian spinners did better there than here (overall). According to linear logic, we should have bowled out Eng for 125 runs here.

Anyways, I wasn't talking about the pitch's turn here but about what needs to be done to score runs.

India might lose this Test.

England batted with the best of conditions. The ball turned more after tea.

India have to bat out of their skins to score over 300on this surface.

India may well loose this test. .though batting conditions ahead and not great bowling by spinners today. .

INDIA have lost to England twice consecutively here before this test. .so the record may continue

India will not lose. Even if India needed 300 to win in 4th innings, watch out Kohli scoring a match winning hundred.

We live in fast food era mate.

Look at the 2006 game

http://www.espncricinfo.com/indveng/engine/current/match/238187.html

Kumble and Bhajji didn't come alive in the first innings. Bhajji took 3...Kumble took 1. They came to party in second innings.

We lost that game cos we crumbled against English pacers in Mumbai.

If that was a trend.....then move to 2012 on a pitch that was more responsive to bowling...

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/565807.html

India got all out for 330 odd.

Eng scored 413 odd.

We crumbled. They knocked off the remaining few in lightning speed.

---

There is nothing to suggest that we have won or lost the game at this point. If we don't throw wickets to English bowlers, it will be a fun game.

First innings is crucial, need to bundle them out for 350 and score 450, it's tough but we need at least a 70-80 run lead in first innings, pitch is deteriorating and ENG have a huge adv now batting first.

Odds are against IND, lets see how they respond in this test.

We have been rattled by England on the first day, our batsman should start scoring some runs for god's sake

The will. The last 4 wickets scored more than the first 6 in the last Test. India's batting depth is going to prove critical. This time the top order will come good.

Definitely an improved performance by us. Kohli is also due a low score, and it's reasonably likely to happen in this match. England are still in a promising position as opposed to a strong one, but they'll be the happier of the two sides on this pitch.

Forget Kohli and concentrate more on Pujara, guy is a beast at home.

Fortunately for us ENG have only 2 spinners in this test.
The England third spinner has been ineffective. Let Root turn his arm over. Rashid is the main gun for England - he has 18 wickets in the series, average 28, and I think he will do even better here.

This is quite pathetic to pick a lifeless bowler like Bhuvenshwar Kumar, fast bowling will never succeed in India. The whole attitude of choosing Kumar over Varun Aaron shows the poor Indian mentality. I thought once Dhoni retired Kohli would push for genuine fast bowlers and looks like I was wrong..........One good news Moin Ali is looking solid at the crease so the wicket must be flat and good for batting :)

The ball will come on nicely on to the bat if Aaron was bowling. Batsmen need to go after Bhuvi to score runs while Aaron's pace will help the English just nudge the ball on to the boundary.

A lot of Rashid's wickets were due to batsmen trying to slog. I won't say he has been particularly threatening.

Let us see how many slogs he takes wickets from this match.

This is not a Turner yet. 4 more sessions of best batting conditions in India coming up. We need to bat 2 of them at least.

Ashwin is getting in his magic zone!

Did the new third umpire really just ask for the operators opinion on whether someone was out and then overturn a decision immediately after that...?

Lmao I thought I was the only one who noticed that.

"What do you think about it?":)))

Wasn't thee a rule amendment that fielding side to be forced to take new ball after 110 overs?

England 333/7 (111.0 ov)

JC Buttler 41* (91)
AU Rashid 4* (11)

R Ashwin 39-4-99-5
RA Jadeja 29-4-80-2

This is turning a lot already.

Moeen and Rash need to produce the goods.

England 342/8 (115.1 ov)

JT Ball 1* (6)
JC Buttler 49* (105)

RA Jadeja 31.1-4-86-3
R Ashwin 41-4-102-5
Day 2 - Session 1

Really gutsy team effort this. Almost everyone has reached double figures. 375 would be good but 400 would be delicious.

This is what I said yesterday.

If you play out some tough periods, you can actually score runs (& score them fast) here. Its that kind of a track. Even in 2012, when India were tottering at 120-5...we still managed 330.

Jake Ball (as good a tail he may be) has scored 29 here and is looking good.

Kudos to England for a wonderful batting performance.

Very disappointing that no one apart from Ash has looked consistently threatening right throughout this test.

Rashid's bounce will be the main weapon here. Just hope Indians don't gift any wickets.

Its a gun track really. Something for everyone and ideally suited for modern day 4 rpo tests.

Should be a cracker of a contest.

Good pitch, good match. Let's see how Ali and Rashid do here.

first new bowl is after 80 overs why is second new bowl taken after 120 overs. I am a bit confuse?

Played Jake Ball. Butler will have to start swinging now.

A number XI comes and you open the leg side field to get him to make a mistake.

Really....a small mistake and the XI will be off strike. But with a fielder there, you would have more cracks at him even if you bowl a bad delivery which gets nudged on the legside.

Sorry to say but Kohli and Ash both have no common sense. Why would you plot a classical dismissal for Anderson when he could get out anyway.....especially when the other end there is dangerous Buttler.

These 2 fellas gave Junaid Khan that single in Asia Cup and lost the game. lol.

England should be very very happy with 400.

No side making above 350 here in first innings have lost the game. That should give them a lot of confidence.

But WI almost lost it after making 590 in first innings here if only we had run the 2nd run harder (game tied).
