Indian general election - April and May 2019 - Discussion Thread

Chowkidar reaching new lows every passing day in his electoral speeches . Crude vile oaf .

Hmm.

He said, vote for logic, so he definitely saying don't vo'te for Congress. Rahul Gandhi is a child that doesnt have logic.. :inti:

Modi has won this, maybe next election Congress will learn from their mistakes and get rid of that clown Rahul Gandhi and atleast place a strong candidate..

Rahul Gandhi is completely unfit for public life, forget PM. He can't give a single interview, can't answer questions. So an interview which was supposed to broadcasted on TV was stopped, to just print copy. He only gets support for being a "Gandhi".

He is the worst politician in India today, he shouldn't even be one, he really struggles in public life...

And read the response of both Rahul and Priyanka. These are what sanskars are all about which obviously aren't part of kacha dharis' curriculum.

Shame on all who voted for him or are planning to vote for him.

Guess what, fake nationalist Akshay Kumar didn't even vote in these elections. However he is ahead of everyone in encashing nationalism at box office.

Guess when 56" asked him to ask his fans to vote, his reply was

Akshay wrote, “Well said Narendramodi ji. The true hallmark of a democracy lies in people’s participation in the electoral process. Voting has to be a superhit prem katha between our nation and its voters.”

Lol, what a hypocrite!

he's Canadian btw..

Lol, 56" won't dare to come anywhere near Ravish Kumar. He'll destroy 56" with just his smile, his satirical wisdom won't even be needed.

On second thought, I think Anil Kapoor would have been perfect. He would have reminded us of that movie Nayak and Late Amrish Puri. I see some similarities between that character and Modi. :inti

Amrish Puri was better as a neta than 56". He had guts to leave power for at least 24 hrs. 56" on the other hand......

This article should be an eye opener for all who're planning to be 56" stooges, his existing stooges are gone cases.

https://thewire.in/politics/bjp-modi-political-funding-money

According to the elections think-tank, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), in the financial year of 2017-18, India’s seven largest political parties declared a combined income of Rs 1,397.90 crore. Of this, the BJP alone received Rs 1,027.339 crore – a whopping 73.5% of that income share.

Almost all of the BJP’s income was from donations – Rs 989 crore out of the Rs 1,027 crore total income.

The Congress, in second place, raised about Rs 143 crore in voluntary contributions.

To put this in perspective: Voluntary donations to the BJP were worth 2.5 times more than the total income, from all sources, of the next seven largest parties put together.

Now this should act as a real eye opener,

In November last year, ahead of the assembly polls in four states, the BJP was India’s leading brand in TV advertising. It aired its ads 22,099 times, which is 10,000 times more than the next brand on the list – Netflix.

No wonder electoral bonds were made anonymous by blog minister of India! Had 56" worked even a bit for welfare of India during last 5 years, would he have to spend this much on his publicity? And this isn't idle money. This money belongs to 56" chums in business fraternity who'll extract every pound of flesh which we all know where it'll lead us to.

Just like vote is given secret ballot, monetary votes (donations) should also be secret. Absolutely correct and ethical.

'Savior of Hindus'

“Modi is the only leader who thinks about us Hindus. He is our pride. He is the only saviour of Hindus,” Bibha Sandwar, a school principal, 50, told AFP: “If he does not come to power, India will become like Pakistan, only Muslims will be heard and seen,” Sandwar said at the rally grounds, which adjoin a large mosque.

Opinion polls suggest Modi will be re-elected, but likely with a reduced majority, and is vulnerable to opposition attacks on the economy and unemployment.

Munish, 41, a businessman at Wednesday's rally, said that Modi had cracked down on the shadow economy and “replaced black money with white money.”

“I think there a lot of jobs, not in the public sector but in the private sector. People are just not willing to work,” he told AFP.

“We have focused on making the lives of the middle class in Delhi easier,” Modi told the rally.

“Be it ensuring easier and cheaper housing, cheaper bills for mobile phones and medicines or exempting income up to 500,000 rupees ($7,175) per year from tax net, they have been at the core of our governance,” he said.

Modi has done nothing for hindus. he is the necessary evil, till India gets a real Hindu leader who puts Hindus first, and not a pretender like Modi.

India election poisoned by online lies

An online video aimed at deceiving voters in India’s general election has provoked fury from opposition parties.

Speaking to the camera from a piazza in Turin, a man gestures to the magnificent palazzo behind him and launches a tirade against the opposition Congress party.

“Rajiv Gandhi’s son, Pappu, that’s his building. He purchased this building after looting the entire country,” he said. “I am in Italy and this is Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi’s building. Pappu makes money from these three buildings while sitting in India. He has looted India. Finish Pappu and throw him out of India.”

elections.jpg

The buildings being highlighted are Turin’s royal palace, built in the 16th century, and other Unesco heritage sites. None is owned by the Gandhi family but the allegation feeds into a narrative in India concerning the privilege and alleged corruption of the country’s most famous political dynasty.

“Pappu” is Rahul Gandhi, 48, son of the murdered former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and Italian-born Sonia Gandhi, 72, Rahul’s predecessor as leader of Congress, the largest opposition party. Pappu is an affectionate Hindi nickname for a small boy but has been turned against Mr Gandhi by supporters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Narendra Modi, 68, the prime minister, to mock his youth and affluent upbringing.

The video was swiftly debunked by opposition supporters but not before it had been viewed more than 150,000 times and shared thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter. Some BJP officials have gleefully helped to spread the story to smear their biggest rival.

The marathon general election over seven phases began on April 11. The results are expected on May 23.

The video incident was the most audacious example of what has become a trend in Indian politics in recent years. This election is the first to be fought extensively online, the BJP changing the game with its pioneering use of social media and messaging apps to reach tens of millions of voters. That step forward has released a deluge of fake news and disinformation, poisoning political discourse and fanning hate speech.

Mr Modi and Mr Gandhi have been the prime targets. When a suicide bomber in Kashmir killed more than 40 Indian soldiers in February, prompting military clashes between India and Pakistan, the fake news machine went into overdrive.

A photoshopped picture of Mr Gandhi standing with the bomber went viral within hours of the dead militant being identified. Another supposedly showing Mr Modi waving a Pakistani flag was shared thousands of times.

Several websites have sprung up working round the clock to debunk the false stories but the volume is simply too great to counter them all. With an election war chest almost ten times that of its nearest rival and a vast “cyberarmy” of trolls and activists, the BJP and supporters on the Hindu right are commonly accused of creating the most poisonous fake stories online. However, observers say that the scourge is now common to all sides.

“This election has been terrible and the level of social media propaganda is growing all the time,” Pratik Sinha, the founder of Alt News, a website that counters false stories, said. “We cannot debunk every story out there. All we can do is encourage people to take a more critical look at what they read online and not believe everything.”

I remember even PP Indian members calling Sonia Gandhi The Italian, but this is going a bit too far.

Looks like some modi fans photoshopped IK and Rahul Gandhi pic and are now spreading it over social media :))

I find this truly amazing!

https://www.cnn.com/india/live-news/india-election-2019-latest-updates-intl/index.html

The Indian Election Commission set up a polling booth for a single voter deep inside the Gir forest in the western state of Gujarat.

A day before the third phase of elections began, five officials traveled about 60 kilometers (40 miles) into the forest to set up an entire voting facility for one man.

Bharatdas Darshandas, a local priest, lives at a remote temple in the depths of the Gir forest

India's Election Commission must provide all voters with a polling booth in their vicinity. Somnath District Election Office, Gujarat

“This is done for every election. The Election Commission criteria is that we have to provide polling station for every person within a two-kilometre radius,” said Vinod Chandra Prajapati, deputy district election officer.

The Gir forest is one of the oldest sanctuaries for lions in India and is uninhabited for the most part.

No voter should have to travel more than two kilometers to a polling station, according to the Election Commission.

As Darshandas stepped out of the polling booth, he said, “I have today and I would like to ask everyone to use their individual vote and there should be 100 percent voting. Just like there was 100% voting here, it should be so everywhere.”

Due to the geography and the extensive terrain of India, the Election Commission has to ensure that every person is provided with a polling booth in their vicinity.

“Because he resides there, we have to get here. Whether he casts his vote or not, it does not matter -- we have to go there and set up the booth,” said Prajapati.

Awww its cute photo even though it was photo shopped. However if little boy Rahul Gandhi ever become the PM, I can see the above photo come into fruition, uncle Imran and the little boy Rahul .. While eating:

Imran: Now Betta remember what I told you, you have to sign over the rights of IOK to us ok ?

Rahul: But Uncle.

Imran: Betta, I have already told you what you will get if you do what I say, Remember that big block of Cadbury Dairy Milk ?

Rahul: Oh OH YES YES Uncle Imran, I will sign over IOK after we finish dinner.

Imran: Good boy

Thanks to Rockstar Shri Narendra Modi Ji. Number of Chowkidars in India are increasing day by day whereas the population of thieves are decreasing. :inti

Gadkari slaughtered by Karan Thapar. Also, it only reinforces that BJP wallas only try to beat around the bush. They don't have any achievement during 56" tenure to talk about, failed on all fronts, nothing concrete for India's future, just blabber incessantly about what problems they received from previous govts and promise of ache din. Mind you, that also included their own govt of 6+ years, led by Vajpayee.

https://thewire.in/politics/elections-2019-bjp-nitin-gadkari-interview

So the result is pretty much decided now right?

Like unless it’s neck and neck so far this last phase won’t tilt balance either eay

Yes I suppose that's correct - the bigger phases were the first 3 or 4.

Got to admire the ruthlessness and the powerful “ecosystem “ the opposition have. There are tons of violence in WB, yet there is silence and no questions are asked to Mamta. Similarly, Rahul promise or rather bribing voters with 72000rs, yet again no questions asked about the economics, source, funding. Then where is the 1 or 3 months report of states of Congress gov like MP, Rajasthan? There is absolutely zero scrutiny of the opposition and their jhoot can go no-stop.

Another recent case was how Mamta jailed a BJP supporter for her “ meme”, yet silence and no outrage. These opposition are really ruthless and intolerant. Thankfully not all of India want such people and parties.

Whatever you might say, the BJP is India's best chance for progress and Modi is infinitely better than the rest of the so called "gath-bandhan".

Congress is a disaster and Rahul Gandhi has absolutely no credibility proven by the fact that no one wants him to lead the opposition or combine forces with him , especially when only 5 years ago there were massive corruption allegations on a scale never seen before.

However BJP winning on its own is almost impossible, in the past UP had a 4 way race, BSP SP BJP and Congress and BJP eeked a out a win. However this time BSP and SP are together so many seats should goto them.

BJP might just huff and puff across the finish line.

56" and Tadipar unleashing their riot and arson Gujarat model in WB as well, with EC in cahoots with them. Did anyone say India is a democracy? Not with such a biased EC. 56" is allowed 2 rallies today in WB, no one else is.

If this isn't bias by EC what else is? 56" is capable of buying each and every constitutional body.

Terrorist Thakur putting Bharat Jalao Party in deeper gutter each time she opens her filthy mouth.

56" perhaps forgot that writer's mother is Tavleen Singh, an Indian and an avid 56" fan. That doesn't matter though to 56".

If these numbers are accurate then in any normal Democratic Party the leader would not survive after 2 consecutive humiliations.

Will Rahul survive?

Axis (India Today), Chanakya (News24), Ipsos (News18), Jan ki Baat (Republic), etc are all reporting major wins for the NDA. Another tsunami is on the way.

You answered your own question. Congress is not a democractic party, it's a party for the family.

To see grown-up men shouting that this family gave us computers, emails and so we ought to vote for his son, is hilarious yet embarrassment.

As expected, very comfortable win for BJP. Biggest problem is lack of a strong opposition. Congress currently is in a terrible state. The way Congress self destroyed over the last decade has been laughable...South India used to be such an advantage for Congress over BJP, now they have almost certainly lost that advantage too. Andhra Pradesh has been such a big loss for Congress, it was a state where Congress won 29 seats in 2004 and 32 in 2009 and now they are pretty much wiped out of the state & have minimal impact in Telengana too. From 29, 32 seats in 2004,2009 respectively to 0-1 seats in 2019 in both the Telugu states. They messed up in Karnataka also big time this year. Maybe it's time for some change of leadership at top for Congress I guess.

Congress needs to find another Narasimha Rao but that will never happen so long as the Gandhi family control the party.

Democracy needs a strong opposition.

Democracy needs a strong opposition.

My most memorable Narasimha Rao moment:

Vajpayee wins the election, Narasingha Rao's congratulatory letter to Vajpayee reads: 'the bomb is now ready.'

Challenging Vajpayee straight away asking him is he had the guts to withstand international pressure and test the nuclear bomb ? Because his government sure didn't...

Rest is history...

Hell will freeze over before Congress stops being the fake Gandhi family's pet.

It's a mismanaged family shop, calling it a democratic party is an insult. Congress need the fake Gandhis otherwise they won't even win a single seat in most places. The fake Gandhis have destroyed any hope of actual leadership coming through Congress.

I think this is a fair result, if the results hold then the next 5 years I wish attention is paid to jobs, resolving Kashmir and water/power issues.
Congress is a malignant cancer and should die.
Better opposition is available why stick with Congress.

Very confident. Already planned a night of revelry on Friday.

Though if I'm wrong, a couple of friends have sworn to empty drinks on my head :uak

Good to know that you're still confident. However most people I know have already declared 56" will be our PM for next 5 years. Whats more his "Mann Ki Baat" has already been scheduled for next month.

Looks like Modi has won as I suspected.

What PM Modi needs to do:

- Start Dialog with Pakistan
- Remove Article 35A & 370A & open Kashmir for all Indians to buy land, slowly start
moving people from mainland India to Kashmir, which will eventually lead to Peace
and RIP to camels like Masood Azhar, Hafeez Saeed type etc from then on..

- Throw out the illegal Bangladeshi migrants, crush, destroy, do whatever that needs to
be done.....

The leaders of 22 opposition parties met the Election Commission on Tuesday ahead of the Lok Sabha election results and asked it to ensure transparency and fairness in the counting process by verifying EVM results with VVPATs.

The opposition leaders, including from the Congress, the DMK, the TDP and the BSP, submitted a memorandum to the poll panel, demanding the tallying of votes of electronic voting machines with a paper trail of votes (VVPATs) of five randomly identified polling booths in an assembly segment before counting begins on Thursday.

Interesting news :13:

Congratulation to BJP, Modi Ji, and co. I pray they will rule 100 more years for the betterment of Indian people. Goodluck to all indian brothers .... :salute

Between 11 April and 19 May Indian citizens turned out to vote for 543 members of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. Seven phases of voting were required to accommodate the nearly 900 million people eligible to cast their ballots.

Votes counted on 23 May will show if the alliance led by the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can hold its majority or whether the Indian National Congress (INC) and its opposition allies can improve on their dismal 2014 showing.

In a small number of states, the main contest is between regional parties - and not the BJP or Congress. These include the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, the TDP and YSR in Andhra Pradesh, the TRS in Telangana and a regional alliance led by the SP and BSP in Uttar Pradesh.
