Are you sure about this? How many seats do you think they'll win out of 91 which went to poll yesterday?

Thanks. Great, if true. However, I still think they'll comfortably win 250+ seats. Insanity is at its highest ever in India.

As for WB, despite all those communal designs of Modis, Shahs, Vijayvargiyas etc, I'll be really surprised if Mamata allows them to win more than 5 LS seats, at best.

What do you mean by Mamata allows?

Judge him based on his psephology skills. Yashwant Deshmukh is a Modi/BJP supporter but that doesn't mean I will ignore his estimates and predictions. Both Yashwanth and Aditya are good friends, they are professionals at the end of the day.

This.

Being a psephologist doesn't mean that you hate someone if you go against some party. GVL Narsimha Rao had great analytical skills as a poll psephologist even if he was partial towards BJP.

Sorry but Yashwant is not modi supporter. He just isnt a congress darbari.

Aditya menon is a BJP hater and doesnt even try to appear neutral.

I mean Mamata allows. Mamata has such a stranglehold over WB that its difficult to break her hegemony at least in these LS and next assembly elections.

It will be the people who will decide not Mamata. CPM and Congress had far stronger strangle holds and hegemonies. They were consigned to history.

Of course I know that. But there is nothing which suggests that BJP will win more than 5 LS seats in WB in these elections.

BJP has gone really desperate even when its victory is a forgone conclusion.

Just hold on man. They're not coming back. And even if they do scrapping and buying some alliance, Modi is gonna be out. I just wanna see him take up Advani's position in parliament. Not sure he will turn up though :))

You seem so sure about this. How I wish what you said above becomes true. At least India will have some hope to come out of blind depths it has fallen to during last 5 years.

Ravindra Jadeja's father, sister join Congress after wife joins BJP

A month after Ravindra Jadeja's wife joined the BJP, the cricketer's father and sister joined the Congress in Gujarat on Sunday in the presence of party leader and Patidar quota spearhead Hardik Patel.

Jadeja's father, Anirudhsinh, and sister, Nainaba, joined the Congress at an election rally in Kalavad city of Jamnagar district. Jadeja hails from Jamnagar and the Congress candidate for Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat, Mulu Kandoriya, was also present.

The Chennai Super Kings all-rounder's wife, Rivaba, had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on March 3 in Jamnagar in the presence sitting MP Poonamben Maadam, who was renominated by the saffron party.

Hardik Patel was expected to be fielded by the Congress from Jamnagar, but the Patidar leader's chances were scuttled after the Supreme Court had on April 2 rejected the plea to stay his conviction in a case in which he was sentenced to two years in jail.

Polls to all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be held in the third phase of the general election on April 23.

Rahul Dravid Can't Vote This Time. Bengaluru Poll Officer Explains Why

Cricket icon Rahul Dravid, who was named as the Karnataka election body's ambassador for voting in the national election, will not be able to cast vote this week. His name has been deleted from the voters' list. A senior polling officer told NDTV that the cricketer did not submit the application for transfer of constituency before the deadline.

The former Indian captain was a registered voter in Bangalore Central parliamentary constituency when he lived in his paternal home in Indira Nagar. After moving out of the neighbourhood to Malleswaram, his name was not added to the voters' list in the constituency of Bangalore North under which Malleswaram falls.

Bengaluru's civic body chief, who is also the returning officer, told NDTV that Rahul Dravid could not fill up the form on time as he was outside the country.

"His brother had submitted the application (Form 7) for the removal of Rahul Dravid's name from the voters' list from Indira Nagar where he was staying at his parental house," Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief N Manjunath Prasad said.

The officer said polling officials went to his new home thrice for verification as per procedure.

"But all the three times, he didn't turn up for physical verification and filling up of the form as he was travelling abroad," Mr Prasad told NDTV.

March 16 was the deadline for applying for enrollment in the new constituency. Rahul Dravid, who was travelling, reached out to the polling officials after the deadline passed, the returning officer said.
The officials said that his name could not be added as he had not signed and submitted Form 6 on time.

"His personal secretary told our officers that Rahul Dravid wants to vote from his old place of residence. We told him that as per his application, we have removed his name from the voters' list and now, procedures have to be followed for inclusion," the officer said.

"Our officers could not get any input despite three visits to his new address and there, his name could not be included in the voters' list," Mr Prasad said.

Bangalore Central, Bangalore North and Bangalore South vote on April 18, day two of the staggered national elections ending on May 19. The results will be declared on May 23.

Shashi Tharoor In Hospital After Injuries During Ritual At Kerala Temple

New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor received six stitches on his head after he injured himself while offering prayers at a temple in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, sources said. He was weighing himself on a giant scale as part of the "thulabharam" ritual in which a person sits on the scale against a mound of offerings like fruit and sweets, equal to the devotee's body weight.

And she has been handed over a 'punishment' of 3-days campaign ban. BTW, who'll punish Modi who just keeps on destroying MCC everywhere he goes?

Though not politically correct, nothing wrong about asking people to vote if they want the politician to do something for them. Why expect the winning candidate who you did not vote for to give you priority over others who voted for her?

So now NDTV is paragon of all virtues. I see you deliberately missed quite a few NDTV links.

NEW DELHI: BJP was the biggest beneficiary of the electoral bond scheme launched by the government in 2017-18, bagging 94.5% of the bonds worth a little over Rs 210 crore.

The BJP’s audit and income tax reports submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI) list voluntary contribution of “Rs 210,00,02,000 through electoral bonds”, ET’s review of the party’s annual audit report for 2017-18 shows.

Electoral bonds worth a total of Rs 222 crore were issued in the maiden tranch ..

No wonder Jaitley wants to keep the donors' names as anonymous. lol at BJP being a non corrupt party.

Also this.

After electoral bonds, the biggest source of donations for the BJP was the Prudent Electoral Trust, which gave it Rs 144 crore from its Rs 169 crore kitty. The party raised a total of Rs 167 crore from electoral trusts in 2017-18.

lol little child Rahul Gandhi needs to be sung his midnight lalabye by his mom the Italian Waitress, so he can go to bed:

Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!
One for the master,
And one for the dame,
One for the little boy
Who lives down the lane
Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full...
Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!

There goes development plank, once again. Only reason she is chosen to contest elections is due to communal polarization she is capable of doing. Now see atmosphere getting even more vitiated.

A Chhattisgarh minister is on camera telling voters they will feel an "electric shock" if they press any button other than that for the Congress candidate on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). The minister, Kawasi Lakhma, has been issued a notice by the Election Commission.
"You have to press the first button to vote for Biresh Thakur. The second button will give you a 'current (shock)'. The third button will also give you one. But we have fixed the first button," the minister said at a rally in the state's Kanker district on Tuesday. He goes on to repeat his warning about electric shocks to a few laughs from his audience.

Extremely poor from this guy. And gullible people will even believe him.

India temporarily bans BJP state chief minister from campaign after anti-Muslim comment

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India’s election commission on Monday banned a Hindu state chief minister from campaigning for three days after anti-Muslim comments in an election that will end next month.

The saffron-clad Yogi Adityanath, a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party, had been warned this month about his campaign speeches, the election commission said.

The commission said Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had spoken about a “green virus” in a speech last week in reference to Muslim voters who he said were being wooed by opposition parties.

Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been playing to its nationalist base and painting its rivals as soft on terrorism and eager to appease Muslims, who make up about 14 percent of India’s 1.3 billion population.

A BJP spokesman said the party was inclusive towards all communities. “The party believes in all-together development for all, and we don’t believe in any polarization,” spokesman Harish Srivastava said.

The election commission also imposed a ban on the leader of the Dalits, people at the bottom of the Hindu caste structure, saying she had violated a code of conduct by asking Muslims to vote en bloc for opposition candidates.

The ban on Dalit leader Mayawati would run for two days, it said.

A spokesman for Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which is in an alliance with another regional party in Uttar Pradesh, could not be reached for comment.

The commission on Monday also banned Azam Khan, a leader from the Samajwadi Party (SP), an ally of the BSP, and minister Maneka Gandhi from campaigning for violating the code of conduct. Khan was banned for three days, while Gandhi was banned for two days.

Staggered voting in the general election began last Thursday and will end on May 19.

Although jobs, nationalism and conditions for farmers are the main issues, religion is an important and sensitive topic.

The BJP repeated in its manifesto a commitment to build a Hindu temple in the northern town of Ayodhya at a site disputed by Muslims, seeking to gain the support of majority Hindus.

Last week, BJP president Amit Shah referred to illegal Muslim immigrants as “termites” and vowed to throw them into the sea.

Surveys suggest Modi’s ruling alliance looks set to win a majority smaller than in the last election in 2014, when it secured a commanding win on a promise to turn India into an economic and military power.

2nd phase of voting begins in India's general election

SRINAGAR, India – Voting has begun in the second phase of India's general elections amid massive security and a lockdown in parts of the main city in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The city of Srinagar is one of 97 constituencies across 13 Indian states where voting was scheduled Thursday.

The election is taking place in seven phases over six weeks in the country of 1.3 billion people.

Some 900 million people are registered to vote for candidates to fill 543 seats in India's lower house of Parliament.

Voting concludes on May 19 and counting is scheduled for May 23.

The election, the world's largest democratic exercise, is seen as a referendum on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party.

Modi has used Kashmir as one of the top issues of his campaign.

Contrast Rahul's patience with the rude display of Modi with a security guard.

lol, someone has got really desperate if thats what the impatience is like for him/her. And bigger lol at Modi being patient. He is everything but patient.

Now that it is more or less certain that Modi will be Indian PM for next 5 years, who all would be there in his cabinet?

I guess likes of Sushma will be out for sure? Also, this will be much younger cabinet than the last one.

Its a Blitz....its Modi Blitz.

Just read this. Hilarious :)))

This guy typifies Modi fans who are filled with contradictions and hypocrisies and never ever see this about themselves.

“I got leave from April 5 to April 12 and could not extend my leave as the airport experiences heavy rush due to Easter and Ramzan. I badly wanted to vote and I decided to put in my papers and fly back home,” Sudhindraa, a resident of Surathkal, told STOI.

I cannot go to the border to protect my motherland. The least I can do is exercise my right and my duty to vote. As regards the job, I am a Permanent Residency card-holder in Australia (his wife is a Fiji-Australian) and I have worked at Sydney Trains before working at the airport. Finding another job shouldn’t be an issue,” Sudhindraa said with a smile.

And the knockout punch from him

This MBA graduate said, “In Sydney, I’ve been working with people from across the globe, including Europeans and Pakistanis. I’m proud every time they say India has a great future. I attribute this success and changing image of India to the Prime Minister.

Bangladesh Actor Ferdous Ahmed To Be Sent Back For Campaigning In Bengal for TMC

Absolutely shameful stuff going on in my West Bengal. Didi and his goons just to remain in power has opened the gates for all BD infiltrates. TMC goons even not allowing people to vote by hijacking polling booths.

After Ferdous, Bangladeshi actor Ghazi Abdul Noor who campaigned for Mamata's TMC has been asked to leave India.

As for WB, despite all those communal designs of Modis, Shahs, Vijayvargiyas etc, I'll be really surprised if Mamata allows them to win more than 5 LS seats, at best.

Obviously “ if Mamata allows it” is key, her goons are killing the opponents every single day. Dont want rest of India to burn like her state...

I dont live in India and don't have voting rights there unfortunately :sanga

You should also quit your job, vote for Modi and settle in India forever. Intelligent people like you can help India become a developed country. Can you quit your job for Shri Modi Ji? :inti

Obviously “ if Mamata allows it” is key, her goons are killing the opponents every single day. Dont want rest of India to burn like her state...

I am a bengali myself...hindu bengalis are suffering big time under TMC rule. People are threatened to vote against TMC, Police is under Mamta's pocket...all sold outs. What happened in Asansol and Dhulagarh are shameful chapters. Bengal is burning....bengalis are boiling inside. The day when fair election happens in Bengal...BJP will win hands down.

Polls close in second phase of Indian elections

Polls have closed in the second phase of India's general election amid a heightened security presence in parts of Indian-administered Kashmir.

Officials said the turnout was more than 60 percent across 13 Indian states where voting took place on Thursday.

Separatist leaders earlier urged a boycott of the vote in Kashmir, calling the elections an illegitimate exercise under military occupation.

A majority of residents heeded the calls for a boycott, with around only 8 percent turnout reported in Srinagar, the main city in Indian-administered Kashmir, according to provisional Election Commission data.

Anti-India protests and clashes erupted at several places during the voting, officials said. At least four people were injured when government forces fired bullets, shotguns and tear gas to quell protests by stone-throwing residents.

"This is not our vote. Our vote will be on the day we're allowed to exercise a plebiscite" on Kashmir's status, Intizar Ahmed, a young trader in Srinagar, told the Associated Press news agency.

Another resident, Abdul Hamid, said he only voted in the hope that a Kashmiri representative in India's Parliament will seek a resolution of the disputed region's status.

Authorities shut down mobile internet service and closed some roads with steel barricades and razor wire as soldiers and police in riot gear patrolled the streets.

However, people voted briskly as long queues of men and women were seen in Kashmir's Hindu-dominated Udhampur constituency, where turnout was roughly 65 percent, officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made Kashmir one of the top issues in his campaign and played up the threat of rival Pakistan, especially after a February suicide bombing that killed over 40 soldiers in Pulwama. The bombing brought nuclear rivals India and Pakistan on the brink of war.

The first phase of polls saw low voter turnout in the disputed region, which has witnessed renewed violence in recent years.

Crucial southern states

The main opposition Congress party and its allies need to win big in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka if they hope to defeat Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

"If the non-BJP parties perform well in these two states, then they would still be having a chance of forming a non-BJP government at the centre," said Sanjay Kumar, director of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, a think-tank based in the capital, New Delhi.

Modi and his party played to their nationalist, Hindu-first base in an aggressive campaign, attacking rivals they accuse of appeasing minorities.

Critics say such divisive rhetoric threatens India's secular foundations.

"Communal polarisation is the biggest issue for me," said Rakesh Mehar, who voted in the technology hub of Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. "And the growing intolerance in the country is what worries me the most."

Votes will be counted on May 23 and the results are expected the same day.

I'm surprised they say 8% for Srinagar, we were basically under curfew the whole day

The 7.5% of srinagar is also a surprise for us. Maybe we could say that 2-3 % are workers of political parties but the rest sounds like a made up number. We were under a curfew as Adijazz1706 has already mentioned.

Nevertheless, 93 percent of Srinagar's population has sent a message (for the millionth time) to Indian establishment by boycotting their elections even when Hurriyat leaders were rounded up and arrested this time around.

As I have always said, everything about Modi is fake, his tough persona, his go getter attitude, him being non corrupt, him being industry friendly, whatever jumlas people sing in his praise. So faking GDP numbers should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi hits out at Congress for reinstating leaders who misbehaved with her

All falling apart for Congress. Even its own party members are not happy.

She’s joined the Shiv Sena now lol.

India voter 'chops off finger' after voting for wrong party

An Indian voter says he chopped off his index finger after realising he had voted for the "wrong" political party.

Pawan Kumar says he accidentally ended up voting for the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in a video that has gone viral.

He wanted to vote for a regional party - but was confused by the many symbols on the voting machine.

Every voter's index finger is marked with indelible ink after they cast their ballot.

He cast his vote on Thursday in Bulandshahr in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. This was the second phase of polling in the Indian general election.

"I wanted to vote for the elephant, but I voted for the flower by mistake," Mr Kumar can be heard saying in the video. He is referring to the party symbols displayed on the voting machine next to the name of each candidate.

Priyanka Chaturvedi quits congress...to join Shiv Sena

https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/con...iticising-it-2025450#comments_result?&tb_cb=1

She was one of the better spokesperson of Congress. Few days ago she was mocking Chowkidaar Smriti Irani jis degree with her famous tv serial song. Now with Priyanka leaving congress and joining sena....I also want to sing a song for her -

"Rishtoon ke bhi roop badalte hai....nayee nayee sachen me dalte hai...ek party aati hai...ek party jaati hai...fir bhi kahani wahi...kyon ki saans bhi kabhi bahu thi"

What karma...just within 5 days :)))

#OnlyModi

priyanka was the most well-known spokesperson of congress. So a big blow to the party, they dont respect the women at all. Rahul should apologise to nation for his cadre misbehave. And Priyanka joining Shiv Sena shows Congress themselves have no real ideology. They support Congress just have greed for power, corruption, selfishness, and really dont have any confidence in their “supreme leaders”.

Indian man cuts off his own finger in anger after voting for wrong party

An Indian man has cut off his own finger after accidentally voting for the wrong party in his country's election.

Pawan Kumar said that he had wanted to vote for the Bahujan Samaj Party in the second round of the election in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

But instead of pressing the button for the BSP's elephant, he pressed the button with the lotus, the symbol for the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mr Kumar told the ANI news agency: "I accidentally pressed the button having the lotus symbol instead of an elephant.

"I chopped my finger for the mistake."

Symbols are used beside the names of candidates so that Indians who cannot read are still able to vote.

As a dalit (formerly known as "untouchables"), the election is one of the few times that the 25-year-old gets a chance to have his say.

According to India Today, he had been "frustrated after the error and could not control his emotions" after his mistake.

He was taken to hospital but was well enough to return home later.

The BJP is tipped to come out on top after the election with the main opposition Congress Party expected to fall short, despite wrestling three major farming states from the BJP in December.

Some 900 million Indians are eligible to vote, making India's election the largest in the world.

Voting takes place over seven stages and initial results are expected on 23 May.

Big lol at Priyanka Chaturvedi.

If she was so concerned about goons, she won't have joined second biggest party of goons after BJP.

What a hypocrite!

Actually if Congress were so concerned about goons, they should have sacked those who misbehaved with Priyanka. Yet, they got rewarded and reinstalled. This message must go out loud and clear, Congress lacks respect for women including their own cadre.
