What's new

Liverpool FC 2025/26 Season

Well at least Ekitke (captain) and Gakpo are in my fantasy league team.

Very impressed by both team this evening.

Liverpool need to turn their focus on signing Guehi because defensively they look a little supect. Having both Isak and Ekitke is overkill.

Konate was Amateurish. His Positional play was awful.

Konate clearly not in the right mindset , clearly contract issues have affected him. Hes a smart guy , he can win more with Liverpool and has to prove himself like Salah and VVD before they were extended with good pay. I’m sure if he stays he’ll vastly improve.

Wirtz showed magic at times but now realises what the premier league is . Some strength and conditioning training he’ll be incredible.

Ekitike was superb for his debut with a cool head , he’ll get plenty of chances in this team to score plenty .

Salah the king 👑 was very good , a little unsure of his new attacking teammates but was always in the game to change it . Opening day goal again , if this man gets close to last season Liverpool have a great opportunity to miss it 21.

We just have to get through and win by Xmas , this team will then be at it’s peak

Konate was Pathetic. Looked as if he's been watching Porn all weekend. Was on all 4's regularly.

Wirtz was ordinary bro. Agree, his lack of physicality drained his confidence. Needs to bulk up.

Getting a win whilst not being at your best is a good sign.

More worrying than Konate was Arne Slots changes at 59mins- Endo at RB was a disaster! Terrible subs.

Gravenberch as a shield and at base of midfield would make a huge difference, look at the 2nd goal, terrible positional play, no one sat, all charged forward- even Endo and Jones- both fullbacks pushed on, in that scenario, a quick break spells danger.

The first goal was just terrible RB play from a NON-RB without the proper cover in behind by the RCB or the CDM.

Wirtz showed glimpses, he will be just fine, laughable that some are questioning him, let's see come Christmas....

Priorities are still Guehi and another attacker (would prefer someone that can play all 3 positions and keep Chiesa or a striker and wide player).

Still 2 to 3 to round the squad. Tonight was a night where Jota was missed also.

Rodrygo would be fit.

Rodrygo would be fit.
I would rather him than Isak.

He can play all 3 attacking positions and be the long term Salah replacement on the right flank, about half the fee of Isak, combined with Chiesa would mean only Guehi is left.

I'm hoping Bajcetic gets some game time this season, he is a quality prospective.

Why is slot going for that overkill a year after winning the league?
They want the CL this year.

City needed Haaland to do it, Slot thinks he needs Isak.

First of many stinkers by Wirtz. The sickly-looking German is going to be the biggest flop signing of the season.

The signing of Isak will ruin the team balance even further. You can’t him have him, Ekitike, Wirtz and Salah in the same playing XI without impacting the team structure and cohesion.

Liverpool have overdone it, and they will pay for it (pun intended). The got a little too excited this summer.

Gravenberch is a big miss. When he's back whose getting benched
Szobo would be benched. For all the athleticism and running power he provides, a bit like Gerrard he lacks the positional discipline to play as a deep lying midfielder.

Last night and against Palace, he tried some risky passes that brought on opposition counterattacks - including one that led to Bournemouth's first goal.

Apparently Frimpong felt his hamstring at HT and with Bradley injured - Slot didn't want to take any risks.

However what didn't make sense was Endo playing RB instead of Gomez, and he had to fix that soon after.

We all like Endo's tenacity but I'm afraid he lacks the pace and physicality needed to play regular PL football. He simply isn't an adequate replacement for Gravenberch. You know Gravenberch would've been at least 10-15 yards deeper for that second goal - Endo trying to hare back after Semenyo was painful to watch, so we need to buy a #6 next summer.

I agree let's keep Chiesa, whatever his flaws we've had enough churn this summer. We sign Isak and that's five senior forwards plus Rio which is more than enough. We definitely need to sign Guehi as frankly Konate should be benched after that performance.

If Liverpool are sensible they will back out of signing Isak and shift their focus on signing Guehi and a LW (Rodrygo, Barcola or Malick Fofana).

It's either Writz or Szabo, both cannot play essentially the same role.

Slot ball quickly turned into Ange ball last night.

Konate was horrendous, he needs to be benched or sold preferably.

Wirtz can play off the left or as a false 9.

Szobo in the bundesliga played well at times from the right flank.

There is versatility there

Let's see how this ages..... 1 game....

Or if this is on par with your usual (lack of) footy knowledge.

Prefer to give someone at least 18 months before making a final judgement.

No they are essentially the same player, looking for those risky champagne passes and ended up giving away needless possession in very dangerous areas. They even got in each others way at times. Wirtz was running around everywhere to get on the ball and then playing very risky triangles, round the corner passes or through balls in the middle. Guardiola would have a fit with this much positional ill discipline. He needs to learn to be patient, doesn't have to do something great every time he is on the ball.

The fact that you call football “footy” shows your age. I bet I started watching football before you were even born.

I think this is where you being based abroad further highlights your ignorance

Up and down this country it's perfectly normal to refer to it as footy

I don’t care about teenagers or uneducated fans languishing in pubs.

No educated, mature or posh person will call football “footy”.

I don't frequent pubs

The term is used by those with and without an education, both young and old, those that are working class

Posh people maybe won't use the term but they make up a tiny percentage of those that watch footy

Hahaha ha. You have zero idea! As GA said, it's a term used from young'uns to OAP's in the UK and the 'football culture' in the UK- again, you have no clue, better upgrade your highlights package overseas.

It isn't the game that you just don't understand, your glaring shortcomings are more apparent each day!!

No idea! Lol

And for your reference, I was watching footy since the early 90s..probably before you even had a stable Internet connection and were reliant on international newspapers

Ah okay, so you are a man-child then. That’s worse than being a child.

Not really, if you lived in the UK and actually understood the culture around football, you might understand but you still have some reading to do on Wikipedia.
First you exposed your age and now you are exposing your low IQ. No one uses Wikipedia as a reliable source of information.

I think I have forgotten more about football than you would ever learn. No more replies unless I see something intelligent. Don’t waste my time.

Hahaha haha

You've forgotten more than I know, sure sure son, not quite...

I repeat, you're from circa 2010 onwards, I'm circa 1992 onwards and the cruyff total football and (early) Milan era, youtube them to expand your repertoire.

I repeat: I know more about football than you can dream of, and everything that you mentioned here is on my fingertips already. I’m passionate about the things that I like, and I have studied football history and evolution very extensively, so please spare me the lectures.

For the record, I started watching football in 1998-1999 period. It’s a shame that even though you claim you started watching football in 1992, you fail to offer any real insight on this forum.

Back on topic — it’s pretty evident that Liverpool’s £100m German is going to get outperformed this season by a Cherki who cost City only around £35m.

IMO, he is one of the top three signings of the season in terms of value for money along with Gyokeres and Zubimendi. Wirtz is the complete opposite of value for money.

After one game you've jumped to a conclusion. Jeez. Wirtz is undoubtedly a quality performer. For some players, it can take time to adjust, or align in Chemistry with team mates. You do get over excited.

I know a flop when I see one.

This guy looks weak with zero athletic ability and no power in his shots. It’s like watching Ozil in an Arsenal shirt and he drove me crazy. I detested him.

I think Arsenal, Chelsea, City, United and also Real have dodged the bullet that has hit Liverpool right in the skull. He doesn’t have the chops.

Why will I disappear from 0 IQ football fans on this forum?

I back Arsenal to win the league whether Wirtz performs or not, but I don’t think he will. I think Liverpool have made a very costly error of judgement, and it’s not the first time they have done so.

To be honest, I do agree. You Gooners are the team to beat and will win the Title.

Over the last few years when you've failed. It's been a collective failure or meltdown, rather than pick out one or two to hang out to dry. I'd include Arteta in that as well

New Liverpool right-back Jeremie Frimpong has been ruled out of action until after the international break with a hamstring injury.

Frimpong, 24, was substituted on his Premier League debut as the Reds beat Bournemouth 4-2 in their opening top-flight game last week.

He will miss league games against Newcastle United at St James' Park on Monday and against Arsenal at Anfield a week on Sunday.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said medical staff advised him to take Frimpong off because they felt the Netherlands international was struggling.

"I think I got criticised for taking him off, didn't I?" Slot joked in his pre-match news conference on Thursday.

"It had nothing to do with how he played, but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring - and by we, I mean the medical staff. It was a good call to take him off.

"We expect to have him back after the international break."

The first international break of the season is from 1-9 September, with the Premier League returning on the weekend of 13-14 September when Liverpool face Burnley at Turf Moor on the Sunday

Northern Ireland defender Conor Bradley only returned to first-team training on Thursday, while Slot said Joe Gomez, who has suffered long injury lay-offs during his career, was unable to train for three days in a row after replacing striker Hugo Ekitike late on against the Cherries.

"Jeremie [Frimpong] has a very positive injury record. Conor [Bradley] was out once or twice last season. These things happen," said Slot.

"At the moment, we only have two injuries, but unfortunately it is two in the same position. The good thing is we have other players that can play there. Wataru Endo played there, Dominik Szoboszlai also.

"Joe Gomez is definitely one of them, but for him to already play 20 minutes - that is already quite a lot.

"He is training with the team, so let's see where he is and if he can be involved on Monday. You cannot prepare for two injuries in one position."

With no Bradley and Frimpong and Gomez not fully fit- I would go with Curtis Jones at RB.

For the love of God, cannot have Endo vs the pace that Newcastle has on the wings

Liverpool can't keep defending in such a school boy manner and keep getting away with it. If they don't sign another couple of defenders it will come back to bite them at somepoint

Winning but don't look right. This has been the case since January and so far its worked

Newcastle were super aggressive but didnt play us off the park, it was mostly long balls, long throw ins, both goals came from this. I think we will know better against Arsenal next up, who also love set pieces but will not play like Newcastle did. Teams who want to play football will be easier to deal with and will allow us to score even more goals.

Sometimes you have to win games in a different manner, physical, fight to the end, which the team did.

It will be interesting. I think the squad is strong enough but will they gel.

Arsenal would have been favourites with Saka, Odegaard and Havertz also available.

I’d take a point but a win is very achievable this time around.

Odegaard and Havertz are not good enough at this level, years of their play shows this. Saka however is a big loss for Arsenal, he is perfect to counter away , has pace and can run past players on the right wing.

Arsenal still have a world class defence and keeper, having not conceded as of yet, up against one of the best attacking goal scoring machines in the world. If Arsenal score first, they could hang on to win so its vital LFC are are on the ball from kick off. Will be an interesting match

Better rest Konate and Kerkez!!

Konate on his day is impossible to get past, he will get another chance. Kerkez does need a rest, we still have Robertson who is better atm imo. Connor Bradley will play at RB too, he is back to good fitness. Wirtz may also get a rest, it will be 80% last seasons team imo. I'd have Graven, Macca and Szobo in the centre to counter Rice and co. Rice is top drawer but Zubimendi has still at lot to prove.

Konate is playing like as if he smokes a joint before the game .. I would go with Gomez.

Bradley and Robbo should hopefully settle some nerves.

2 matches with mistakes but he also made some vital challenges and clearances. We wont come up against a team as mental as Newcastle were again this season. Gomes as usual has been injured, its too early for him to return to the starting line up. We could try to play our new signing who looks an incredible prospect Giovanni Leoni but debuting in such a big game is a bit too far

Both are better than Wirtz, who seems like a better fit for the WSL at this point.

Give him the same game time like those two farm animals and you'll see a future great. Odegaard and Havertz having ample opportunity to prove themselves but have failed miserably.

Its a blessing in disguise for Arsenal to lose them at Anfield. Rice will be captain, he's a real leader while Martin is the leader of hairspray in Europe.

Wirtz is malnourished. He seems like a little child who is scared of the superior physicality of the PL compared to the Bundesliga.

Spending £116m on him is laughable. He is not worth half the money Liverpool have wasted on him.

City and Real Madrid were the other two options for him and they have dodged a bullet, although Real shot themselves in the foot by signing the extremely overrated Trent.

You do not understand the economics of football in the modern era. Wirtz is only 22, playing for Liverpool wining trophies his value is only set to increase. Besides we have the money, we are a club in great profit, with plenty more to spend. He is young but has more skill in his left toe than half of the Arsenal team. In a decade he will be known as a PL top player while Havertz and Odegaard will be begging Saudis for a payday or will go back to their home nations without a statue at the Airplane ground. Hopefully you have drawn plenty of silly images of them.

You can see from the willingness to get on the ball, passing ability and the runs he makes that in time he will be good PL player. Just needs to adjust to the pace of the game here. I believe it will come with time.

Overspending on players with inflated price tags is not economics of football. Wirtz isn’t a value for money signing in a market where Arsenal signed Eze for £68m and City signed Cherki for £34m.

This is a lazy signing by Liverpool, who went after a big name rather than a smart signing. Liverpool have money but they have more money than sense.

Liverpool fans know he is shaping up to be the most expensive flop signing of the summer but they are in denial, and this denial will continue for at least a season before they look to cut their losses somehow.

@Amjid Javed winning at Anfield can it happen?

Would feel unreal. 2011 Arsenal won there last time in PL.

Hope we don’t give them too much respect 😭 Salah is absolutely lethal though

Gyokeres scoring his first in front of the Kop…

The match on Monday showed exactly why Liv are one of the most dangerous sides in the world and how Salah is reaching the higher stratospheres of epl greatness.

Arsenal is better with Saka, Havertz and Odegaard fit than injured. Simple. The overall advantage Arsenal gains with having all 3 fit would have made Arsenal favourites under the circumstances.

The winning goal involved all but 1 player in the build up and goal. Liverpool are yet to click but the last 10 mins of the match v Newcastle the players did click finding the winning goal. This match imo helped the team, it was tough but helped them gel. When the team fully plays to its potential it will be tough to beat.

I would have preferred if we had a fit Saka but I still think we can go there and get something.

I don't think there is a big difference between the teams apart from Liverpool players having actually got over the line. Last season shows that with the 2 draws although both games we were pretty depleted I believe.

I think we are good enough to win. Just need to make use of the transition better because we will have the opportunity to punish them.

Salah has been very average so far but he stil has his big moments late on. I'd put timber at LB and Ben White at RB. I don't like Califori or MLS vs him as they both get dragged out of position leaving Gabi exposed and an overload from the other side.

I think we need to take advantage of their right side. Salah won't track back. Bradley just returning and Konate being a walking disaster. Shame Martinelli not good enough to expose. Let's see how we line up.

Thing is I'm not to concerned even if we lose as its early in the season and I'd rather go Anfield at this stage rather than late on when there is more riding on it.

Really don’t understand the underdog gimmick Salah is trying to push lol.

You’ve convincingly won the PL last season, you are about to break the British transfer record TWICE in the same window and have spent strongly in other areas too. Easily the favourites to win the PL.

Agree Calafiori gets dragged out of position too easily. He gets into those good attacking positions but yeah we’ve seen Gabi left exposed as a result. Timber still doesn’t get the admiration from Arsenal fans he deserves. An unsung hero of sorts.

Can’t ask Calafiori to stay with Salah and Timber’d be the guy to do that so Ben White comes in at right who’s still easing in to the team. I don’t think Liv’s left flank is to be taken lightly either.

You mentioned transitions, isn’t Eze supposed to be really good at those? We’ve already seen Odegaard make a mess of a few this season.

Facing them at Anfield so early in the season has actually taken the pressure off. I hope there is no mental block.

That win was a powerful reminder for everyone that Liv are the real deal and remain the team to beat.

Liv have the edge over Arsenal. That game a couple of years ago when the crowd got riled up, I could see Arsenal players feeling the pressure from the crowd and they conceded soon after.

Victory at Anfield would be huge in its own right. That’s the last frontier

'Ideal person to represent him' - Neves given Jota's 21 shirt

The number 21 shirt worn by the late Diogo Jota for Portugal has been passed to his close friend and former team-mate Ruben Neves.

Liverpool forward Jota died at the age of 28 in a car crash in northern Spain in July, alongside his brother Andre Silva, 25.

Al-Hilal midfielder Neves, 28, who played alongside Jota at Wolves - as well as for their country - was one of the pallbearers at his funeral.

"The number 21 jersey will go to Ruben Neves because, that way, that number will remain on the field and with all of us," said Portugal manager Roberto Martinez.

"He had a very close relationship with Diogo and is the ideal person to represent him."

The Portugal team will hold their first camp without Jota next week as they prepare for World Cup qualifying games against Armenia and Hungary.

In their last match in June they beat Spain on penalties to win the Nations League, with Jota coming on a substitute and Neves scoring the winning penalty.

Martinez added: "We know what Diogo meant to each of us and the impact he had on our lives. We want to honour his memory every day. He will be with us and will be another force helping us achieve our goals. Diogo's example is a light for us. We will carry his spirit in our hearts.

"Diogo's absence is a factor of unity, motivation and responsibility, because Diogo wanted to win the World Cup, and we are here to fight and achieve that dream."

Liverpool won a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title last season with Jota wearing the number 20 shirt, which the club decided to retire after consulting with his wife Rute Cardoso and family members.

Brighton midfielder James Milner is wearing the number 20 shirt this season as a "mark of respect" to his former Liverpool team-mate.

Sensing fear at liv after a long time.
Usually arsenal never have a chance going to Anfield. This time, I can smell fear from a distance.

Gerrard-esque free kick from Szobo !

Needed a moment of magic from a set-piece given the lack of chances from open play. Reminiscent of the cagey PL matches between top 4 teams in the 2000s where chances were at a premium.

Much better defensive performance with Konate vastly improved. Hopefully not a serious injury.

Excellent performance , very solid in defence , gyokeres was in Konates pocket , while kerkez put in his best shift so far .

Arteta helped Liverpool with his defensive , long ball approach but after 60 mins Liverpool played them off the park .

Arsenal came to win by a set piece but lost to the ultimate dead ball goal , one of the all time great free kicks in pl history .

Get Isak and with Gomez playing well this team can win silverware this season. 100% start for the champions 🏆
