Liverpool FC 2025/26 Season

Think Arsenal fans are getting over excited. The lead is two points. You might be back to AFTV level of crying soon.
The lead is actually a point. Nobody is getting excited as of yet. I Have said I think we will win the league and I stick by it. Long season ahead and lots is yet to happen. Some Liverpool fans need to toughen up running away after 7 games.

I don't watch AFTV and I leave the crying to the Liverpool fans. "Offended by everything ashamed of nothing"

Anyway jokes a side it will be an exciting title race. Liverpool have some top top quality players and they will click soon.

Mate last season you were confident Liverpool will fall away and Arsenal will overtake to win the league 🫣

Though admittedly, Ars are fav this times because of their solid defence. Liv have a serious chemistry problem which will not be fixed with a few matches. Man City are are also creeping up.

Actually I kept saying that Liverpool would have a dip and we have to be there capitalise. Slightly different but in the end Liverpool did drop points but we were nowhere to be seen and it ended up as a no pressure sorta title for Liverpool from early on. MATE

We have a strong squad this season and don't have any other option other than win it or Arteta must be sacked.

International break is finally nearing its end.

Match of the weekend would be Liv hosting Utd. Mouthwatering fixture with the potential to go really bad for Utd (as we have seen in the past).

As much as I’d like to see Liv drop points, a Utd thrashing would be a lot of fun too. Either way, exciting match for neutrals.

I am going for 3-0 for Liv.

How are we @KingKhanWC bro. Glad your still Posting. Thought you'd gone AWOL.

lol, been away bro. But back for the biggest derby of the PL season.

I managed to watch both matches we lost while away but we could have won either game. Utd are on the mend now it seems so should be a great contest.

The Int break came at a good time for the Reds, Slot must now change things up so we are more solid but Sunday is is all out v Utd. Im confident we will take 3 points? What is your view?

🤣🤣

You were logged in 15 mins before kick for the Liverpool and Palace, please don't report to lying now. "I was away" nonsense.

Typical plastic Asian Liverpool fan who dissapeared as soon as you lost a game of football..

I'm sure you will be "away again" if you drop points to united on Sunday as well.

You are generalising bhai!!

As mentioned, some have been here throughout and tbh, a downturn was expected, only a matter of when and how long it lasts.

Lol because I watched the match , I watch all lfc games.

Liverpool lost to Artetas bunch of zoo animals and I commented, why hide when losing to a good side like palace .

I recommend a break for you too

When Arteta bottles it again , you really must take a break … a long one

I’m assuming with a lead now and you thinking lfc fans are hiding , it’s finally on the bag for you too ?

Everyone scored against Liverpool, there are issues , big issues but Arsenal failed to score which should be your concern. Lol

I already had a break a few weeks ago when I went to Turkey on holiday.

I didn't need to run off and hide for a week because my team lost 3 games of football.

Just admit you can't take banter when Liverpool losing.

1 point lead is nothing, I'm not making any assumptions.

Facts are if Liverpool lose to united at the weekend, you will be "away again"

There were similar instances in last few seasons where uve dissapeared after Liverpool defeats. So no assumptions here. I'm just calling you out for being plastic fan.

A 50 year old man stalking people on the internet while his team has won f a in 5 years, is a sign you need to get a flight to Gitmo or the Island again.

Man Utd are Liverpools only rivals, we are neck and neck on 20 league titles. 21 matters, not what Arteta and his bunch of elderly stalkers think. :)
You need to come up with better banter 🥱. Enjoy your next holiday, im sure the other plastic fan in Peshawar will happily accommodate you on your trip

Let's see if you can beat the worst united team in PL history, on Sunday

And for that reason I'm backing The Gooners all the way this season.

Better stayed Neck and Neck than Scousers Going ahead of us Lol.

But I get your point when it comes to success we are equals. But I'm not going to kid myself, there is no rivalry currently.

Arteta has a great squad but is clueless, so imo will bottle it again. City are favs imho.

LFC and Utd are the two most succesful clubs, its historic rivalry. Holding the most league titles is the biggest prize, we have 2/3 seasons to do this but I would prefer to get over this line this season.

Alhamdulillah. @KingKhanWC is OK.

God forbid you lose another game... I will cherish our interactions until then because the next defeat might be the last time we hear from you.

Arne slot is also showing signs of feeling the pressure 😂😂😂😂😂.

Baldy is on about "shett peeshes" and percentages😂😂.

In all of this he forgot that the wins vs Burnley and Arsenal were result of set pieces.

Now I know why pool fans just make up statements hoping nobody notices 😂 @Amjid Javed @aboveandbeyond @topspin @IMMY69

I didn’t realise we grew up together, sorry you missed me . You should get some real friends tho

Arsenal have won nothing for years , it’s a point and now suddenly the treble is on . Even you know Arteta is going to bottle it . City are clear favourites

Yeah it does seem like hes trying to deflect pressure away and elsewhere.

Virgil van twirk (aka shakira) has been rolling excuses out about "other factors"

Seems the victims mentality is being rolled out

We need to win the title this season, so while Liverpool are being techy like this we need to ruthless take advantage. That would show a shift in mentality

I feel we do better in these fixtures with a point to prove or our backs slightly to the wall - see the 7-0.

However when in a good run (and Utd being terrible) - we can become complacent - see the 2-2 in January.

Reasonably confident we'll win especially with the Anfield factor. Some of the criticism has been OTT given we've had a difficult fixture list - Burnley aside I expect all our PL opponents so far to finish top 10.

Senior players must step up or step aside. Salah, Konate and MacAllister were brilliant last season but have been dreadful so far. Salah has a great record vs Utd so probably starts - but Slot must hook him if he's struggling instead of always giving him the full 90.

From a fixture point of view yes it's been a tricky start for you.

But your defence has been woeful pretty much every game and in CS. Only the Arsenal game (where we set up in pathetic manner) is only game Liverpool have looked defensively solid. Konate is getting worse and you don't have many other options. Virgil van twirk is more interested in doing impressions of shakira then actually defending. Whilst you may go through gears and improve. Defensive I can't see you improving and unless you address that in January, then that will cost Liverpool in certain competitions this season.

Man Utd have shown flashes of being more than decent, they tend to rause their efforts vs Liverpool also- tricky match coming up.

I am hoping the Liverpool transition does not take too long!

It's OK you can stop crying now. There is a long time to go.

Where did you go "away" by the way? As your concerned friend I thought you might have said 😂😂. I mean last time at Umrah of all places you found the time to post on the Arsenal thread.....

Make it make sense 😂😂

Just admit you've been sulking..

So Man City are clear favourites according to who or what? Or is that another statement you've plucked out of thin air?

Not expecting anything from Liverpool tomorrow. Man U are desperate for wins. Going to be a very tough match.

Slot won 7 in a row before losing 3 in a row so there’s that too. I am pretty sure it will be a Utd routing at Anfield. Liv have more of a point to prove then no ambition Utd who last won an away PL game in March. I get the scepticism from Liv supporters because Utd have earned points at Anfield in the past. Tomorrow though, I expect Liv to be all over Utd.

Why Liverpool are feeling the effects of Trent-shaped gap this season

After winning the Premier League fairly comfortably last season, Liverpool reinforced their squad with some of Europe's most impressive talent.

Arne Slot's Reds spent about £416.2m on summer signings, the most spent by any club in a window, bringing the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike to Anfield.

But, despite sitting third in the table, Liverpool have lost three matches in a row in all competitions and host Manchester United on Sunday with a few questions being asked about them.

New signings need time to gel but the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid may have had a larger impact on Liverpool's squad as a whole than first thought.

Despite being questioned for his defensive ability at times, the 27-year-old scored 18 goals and contributed 64 assists in his time at the club - but his absence is being felt for less obvious reasons.

Here we analyse what Liverpool are missing this season in Alexander-Arnold's absence.

Reds struggling against high defensive block

The Premier League is home to some of the best executed defensive set-ups in the world whether that is in the form of physical high-presses or stubborn and compact blocks.

Bypassing a high press can be done in two ways: by playing through the pressure or by going long and playing over the pressure.

Against a good press or a higher defensive block, Liverpool have struggled to get the ball up the pitch as effectively as they did last season.

This can partly be explained by Alexander-Arnold's on-ball quality and using an example against Spurs last season helps illustrate the point.

Throughout the game, Spurs applied a high press looking to win the ball early. The right-back's body was angled in field and, with Son Heung-min closing Alexander-Arnold down quickly, access to players in the wide areas was cut off.

A massively underrated part of Trent's game, and one that Liverpool miss greatly, is his ability to play with his weak foot. In this scenario, Trent was able to use his left foot to accurately sweep a pass into the unmarked Alexis Mac Allister.

A hallmark of Liverpool's build-up last season was in finding the midfielders centrally who were often staggered.

In this example, Ryan Gravenberch has left the centre of the pitch to move into the right flank dragging his marker with him. Mac Allister comes over and Dominik Szoboszlai arrives to form a sort of zig-zag-like shape.

This staggered positioning allowed Liverpool to bounce passes around late-arriving pressure between the midfielders and full-backs with minimal touches used getting up the pitch.

Bradley less accomplished with weaker foot

In the defeat by Chelsea
, Slot opted for Conor Bradley at right-back, who found himself in a very similar situation as Alexander-Arnold did against Spurs; Alejandro Garnacho pressed high, Bradley was facing in-field, and access to the wide areas was cut off.

Bradley, similar to his right-back rival Jeremie Frimpong, is less accomplished on his weak foot and as a result was unable to build up play centrally in these scenarios.

With a pass on into the midfield, Bradley instead played with his right foot back to Ibrahima Konate. This restarted the build-up with the same problems needing to be tackled from the beginning.

Wirtz dropping deeper than at Leverkusen

Short build-up is clearly an issue that requires addressing and compromises have had to be made in getting the ball up to the attackers. One way in which Liverpool have done this has been in using Wirtz deeper.

The German midfielder's biggest strengths lie in the final third but given his excellent technical quality, particularly his passing, Wirtz is dropping deeper in order to get on the ball, before helping bring it up the pitch.

For Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz would often stand on the left flank waiting for the ball to be brought up the pitch by team-mates before getting involved. Comparing where he's receiving passes this season to last season highlights a stark difference.

In the short term this is a sensible solution given Wirtz's qualities and Liverpool's weaknesses but it fails to maximise Wirtz's individual attacking game.

Florian Wirtz is dropping deeper in order to get on the ball, before helping bring it up the pitch.

Long build-up and switches of play

Aside from short build-up and technical quality, long passes and switches are tools teams need to bypass a press or to disrupt the shape of the opposition's defensive block.

Liverpool played 3.4 switches of play per 90 minutes last season and this is down to 1.3 per 90 minutes this season. This decrease is partially explained by Trent leaving with the English full-back able to play crossfield passes reliably and with both feet, often finding the left winger.

Tactically, this forced a deeper defending side to have to shuffle across the pitch. Switching the play quickly allows the players receiving the ball to exploit the spaces that appear in the opponent's now less-compact shape.

In terms of long passing, Virgil van Dijk possesses a great long diagonal pass that has found Mohamed Salah isolated on the right wing numerous times over the last few years to similar effect. However, the rest of Liverpool's current crop of defenders don't tend to play as long very often.

Alexander-Arnold played 11.3 long passes per 90 minutes last season with a 42.1% pass accuracy. In the league this season, Bradley and Frimpong by comparison have only played 3.7 and 1.1 long passes per 90 minutes with a 16.1% and 0% pass accuracy respectively.

Salah playing with back to goal

The players at a coach's disposal dictate what tactics become viable and, without Alexander-Arnold, skipping short build-up to find Liverpool's quick attackers in space is less of a possibility.

Isak and Salah are both players who thrive when attacking at speed, facing defenders, in space. With this option not being opted for as much, their strengths aren't being platformed as often as they could be.

Slower build-up results in attacking situations against deeper, more compact defences as there is more time for the defending side to get back into their desired shape. It has also meant Salah has found himself playing with his back to goal both centrally and out wide more often.

For as great a player as Salah has been, he struggles more when defenders apply close pressure on his back, preventing him from turning to face the goal. His options become more limited and he tends to pass it back when this scenario arises.

How can United take advantage?

Slot's men face Ruben Amorim's Manchester United and if United are to get anything from the game, they will need to look to take advantage of some of Liverpool's recent frailties.

Amorim has on occasion asked his team to defend in a 5-4-1 shape out of possession, moving away from his normal 5-2-3 and, if chosen, this alternative approach is likely to pose Liverpool more questions.

By defending deeper and blocking the centre of the pitch well, a larger percentage of the possession for Liverpool will be with the central defenders who are less apt in breaking down a stubborn shape. This may force Wirtz deeper, out of zones he may be more destructive in.

The reluctance for Liverpool to play switches of play will make it harder for them to break down a 5-4-1 shape that has good coverage across the width of the pitch to begin with too.

Finally, a shape that aims to reduce space the likes of Isak and Salah can run into is naturally a smart plan to counter two of Liverpool's most impressive players, especially if it is paired by proactive, aggressive defending from United's left wingback.

If united played the way did vs Arsenal- when they should have won, combine that with them usually raising their game vs Liverpool + poor form from Liverpool- it is a tricky game.

Of course Utd are a threat with so much individual quality but I think team morale is down. The loss against Grimsby showed Utd players can react and really let it go. Add to that the still fresh 7-0, the fact that Utd haven’t won away since March, the abysmal league position last year, Amorim’s shenanigans, and a under confident squad.

Moreover, Liv know what they want out of this season. Utd are a club that’s lost atm. I am fine if Liv lose points or Utd get routed but all signs point to the latter being much likely. It’s a fixture I always look forward to.

If Liverpool lose today, then this thread, along with the Arsenal thread, should be made stickys!

What a great season thus far!

It's crazy how Liverpool have spent all this money but have managed to get worse
Their defence wasn't amazing last season, they just had better protection from midfield. Also they won loads of high scoring games.

Now pretty much all teams, (barring Arsenal) Have realised they can attack Liverpool and cause problems.

Long may liverpools problems continue

Watching on SKY. Did you see Salah sitting down, instead of standing up in the tunnel, as Liverpool were about to walk out on the pitch? His facial expressions summed up the mindset in the dressing room.

Everyone should read up on the 'hype' cycle.

The bubble has burst for Liverpool.

For all Liverpool fans safety, best to come off all forms of social media as your going to think workd war 3 had started

Charity shop defending !

Oliver should've blown for the head injury but Mbuemo able to run off the back of VVD too easily. Second goal also avoidable.

Feels like every game we need to score 2-3 goals to get a result which isn't sustainable - especially when Salah looks finished.

Good luck beating Frankfurt and Brentford because even a point from both looks difficult right now.

Fourth defeat in a row from Liverpool. This is turning out to be the worst title defence since Yokozuna lost in 22 seconds at Wrestlemania IX.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
