The first Test was a major disappointment for most of us but question really is - what lessons have been learnt.

And most importantly - will Fawad Alam be included in the playing XI.

All these questions will be answered soon.

The 16 for this game

Azhar A (c), Babar A (vc), Abid A, Asad S, Fawad A, Imam, Kashif B, M Abbas, M Rizwan, Naseem S, Sarfaraz A, Shadab K, Shaheen A, Shan M, Sohail K and Yasir S.

Looks like it'll rain around lunch today for a bit. Hopefully it passes quickly.

We live in Hampshire. Just had a thunderstorm of biblical proportions.
Does not bode well for the game though the storms tend to last a relatively short period of time.
Interesting to see what effect it has on the pitch (it’ll “sweat” under the covers) and what that means for team selection

Most Pak tv channels are reporting Fawad will play. No other change yet but I would also change Naseem for an experienced bowler.

Weather forecast has improved for today. Lets hope we get least 11 or 12 sessions

Pitch doesn’t look great in the picture double figure score on the cards hope Pakistan don’t bat first.

Hoping for a washout because we can get 20 points in this game & then we can go for win in next game.

1. I still don’t believe Misbah will pick Fawad.

2. You’ve still got to bat first if you win the toss. Otherwise you take your spinner(s) out of the equation.

Hopefully we bat 1st. Can't fall into the trap of bowling 1st. We don't have the ability to rush through lineups within 3 sessions, especially with Azhar Ali at the helm.

I reckon they are more likely to pick Sarfraz than Fawad.

I’m surprised they didn’t pick Wood. Makes it easier for the Pakistan batsmen, no bowlers quicker than around 135K.

Curran and Woakes will be the ones to watch out far, especially Curran who can be a handful with ball and really competent with the bat as a no.7/8. This really lengthens their batting.

Fawad Alam finally gets a chance after 11 years.

So Misbah thinks he’s good enough at 35, but was in charge when he didn’t select him when he was:

24
25
26
27
28
29
30
31
34

Fawad must have really improved!

Stupid decision to drop Shadab . He gave so much to the team in the last test . Was one of the bright sparks .

Happy Fawad got his chance though !

Agree it wont be to bowl out England dor less than 450 this time, and we are a boqler short albeot Shadab was not used much.

Pak to bat....i just feel the portents are right...if pak come out storming and hit eng hard...first look at Fawad ahmed for me - read on cricinfo he's churned out the runs in domestic...this is his big chance if he turns it around for pak, instant hero....for Eng , Curran is a good selection however i feel his pace has dropped since his debut against us in 2018....dunno much about crawley either...but hope the weather holds and we have thrilling game just like the first test....

Asians have really overrated Curran. He is a pretty ineffective bowler on dry pitches and pitches lacking swing. As a batsman he is a good player of spin.

But I would have picked mark wood.

Having said that, engs batting is pretty powerful now with his addition

Shan is once again the key.

His wicket will determine the course of the 1st innings. If he plays long, we should be able to post 300+.

That joke of hack is playing today. It would be exciting to see this hack dance on the tunes of James and Stuart.

Don’t try to understand the thought process of these grandpas

Thunder and lightning about for the first four days....

Pak lost scoring 330 last week, lost to Aus after scoring 550 (batting first)so keep saying 300 should be enough is foolish as they find different ways of losing oversea tests.

Have a feeling we are going to get out before 150.

Why not bowl first on this pitch?

So Pakistan have gone with the side I picked in the pre-match discussion thread a couple of days ago.

As suggested in that thread aswell, I would though like to see them trying Babar at 3 and Azhar down at 4 as he looks a walking wicket right now and Asad moved back to 6 where he has scored his most runs and Fawad at 5.

Last time a team batted first, they lost. First few days are seam and swing friendly, but the pitch goes dry and chasing team wins

The pitch favors the bowlers and it is overcast as I saw on Wasim Akram’s picture...

Don’t know if this is the right decision.

Currently sunny as the players walk out. It is very very warm in the UK currently, with a few thunderstorms forecast over the next few days. Not such a terrible decision I think, it's a good positive one.

Yikes....dont see 275+ scores then...and what about 5th day? Stokes not playing is a big blow-u reckon? Curran was awesome against us(india) in 2018...but looks down on pace...i dont think dom bess is gonna run thru sides...and can understand why you guys dont pick moieen Ali....he's been the devil bowler against us and has taken bag full every time he playedus....

Yasir will be overbowled in tgis match too. Worried for him. Should be last match for Asad and Azhar if they fail

Got a feeling that Anderson is going to run through us this morning, seems like he's out to prove a point.

Interesting to see how Fawad goes, this is probably his last chance to make something of his career, a failure now would mean the curtain coming down on his international career for good. That sort of pressure either makes or breaks you.

Not sure why we keep winning toss its a v v brave decision..they want to bowl last because of yasir shah but i dont agree with that

Not being Pakistani, I find it amazing that Misbah has gutted the young 2018 team to England and systematically stripped it of players in their twenties.

At full strength, Pakistan can field a better team than England. But I hope they get thumped for this geriatric selection process.

He be more effective than Archer , whogotsome flukey wickets in last match dexpite bowling rubbish.

Azhar and Asad last two matches for them to prolong their career.

Asad, Azhar and Fawad? Are they the only problems you find?

Abid seems proper flash in the Pan. He ain't surviving long here unless he get real lucky.

Good call, the wicket should suit PAK attack. Unless they get blown away in first session, PAK should be able to put a fighting total in first innings.

Just time to hear from England returnee ZAK CRAWLEY, back in the side, before our attention turns to that first ball…

“The good thing about Pakistan’s attack is that they present quite a few different challenges. I’ve got to make sure I’ve got good plans for each of them and not treat all of them the same.

“I’m really looking forward to facing Yasir Shah. He’s one of the best spinners in the world and if I play him well it would be a big confidence boost for me, so I’m looking forward to how I go
